On my first night of camping for a festival, I got bitten by some kind of beastie. By the evening of the second day I had the most amazing blister that needed draining and dressing at a walk in centre. I've been put on antibiotics to treat the infection.

We thought this but it hasn't been itchy at all. I get random bouts of tingling in it but other than that it's just the swelling making things awkward

Someone onsite suggested a spider bite but I'm not convinced on that one either

@frerecoler we didn't have a pen so took photos to keep track of the swelling. It serves a dual purpose Grin

Bravo for the photos! I would say spider bite, horseflies always leave a telltale little 'slit' when they have bitten me

This happened to my friend at a festival. His foot swelled up so much, he couldn't even wear a flip flop. The walk in who treated it were pretty sure it was a spider bite.

How did you resist popping that blister before the walk on centre had a go at it ( lucky sods).

@CornishTiger yep still tracking it. Had it redressed at the festival medical tent the morning after as it had leaked through the original dressing and she marked the edge of the redness then

I didn't see a single spider in our tent (it happened overnight) so it was a very sneaky one if it was a spider!

@viques I did have a good poke at it. The temptation was so real. DS actually popped it by bumping into it as he climbed up into my lap for a cuddle at the walk in centre. Unfortunately my PJs leg was down so I didn't get to see it burst 😭

Spider?! Since when did UK spiders bite?!

I had one like this but smaller thank god, just a couple of weeks ago from sitting in my garden. Very hot, red and spreading, nasty.

Seriously, look up Blandford fly bite images, the blistering and the large inflamed area all fit.

Used my internal camera to try and get a better overall view of it this morning. It feels a lot better - still warm but not so swollen or red anymore. I was worrying about the slight purple tinge it was gaining last night but that seems to have eased off

Mine always react just like this. I just keep them covered and leave them alone. Other people are horrified but I'm used to it now.

I even took a series of pictures of my last one and turned them into this handy composite image, which I show people when they wonder why I'm reluctant to go for nice walks on hot days or think I'm over-reacting to flies landing on me...

@Summerhillsquare most spiders bite, just less likely to cause a problem in the UK. The worst bite reaction I've seen in a friend was from a ladybird...

That is an impressive infographic! I managed to get to your day 5 in less than 24 hours Grin

I would absolutely overreact to flies landing on me if I knew this was the likely outcome!

Having it looked at by a GP/nurse later just to make sure it's okay. Slightly worried about getting a different infection by leaving it open to air but not sure what to cover it with, if I should at all, so figured I'd ask a professional
