So, I'm suffocating my wart with duct tape...

Not a sentence I say everyday!

I've had this wart for years. After 2 years or so I spoke to a pharmacist who said its would disappear in its own. Obviously it hasn't. It's grown much bigger.

How do I get rid of it? I've tried creams, oils, tablets. I've filled it down, picked bits off. It just won't go!

It's been 5 years!

It's in a funny place which doesn't help. On the end of my middle finger. And I think it's growing under my nail as well and coming out again at the top.

It hurts at times and looks unsightly.

I'm on the duct tape method at the moment. But, being in the end of a finger, it's awkward to keep it sealed. I'm changing the tape every day. It's softening but I don't knew if that means it's dying or not.

Any ideas?

I had warts on my hands as a child for years and they just wouldn’t go. Did ever thing had it frozen, all the old wives tales. Then after about 7 years they just disappeared

Iwanttoredecorateagain · 26/06/2019 22:54

Do you have any verrucas. I had a wart on my finger amd 5 verrucas. I got a chiropodist to sort the verrucas and she sorted them after 4 sessions and the finger wart just disappeared.

SlimGin · 26/06/2019 22:54

Duct tape worked for me! Mine was on my thumb so also tricky with washing hands etc just keep reapplying! When mine was dying it went very soft and white then eventually shrank to nothing.

HappyHammy · 26/06/2019 22:57

I used bazooka wart remover on my finger. It worked. It went white and soggy then fell off but its awkward because your hands get wet.

WhiteLightTrainWreck · 26/06/2019 22:58

Potato worked for me last year, cut in half and tapped to the back of my hand. My mum also suggested onion at the time...

stucknoue · 26/06/2019 23:09

It works! Takes about 4-6 weeks though and we used the scraper method as well each time it was uncovered

Chickydoo · 26/06/2019 23:22

I have had a wart on my finger for 24 years on and off.
I have given up. Can't possibly have been stressed & run down for 24 years! I have learned to live with my wart. I have tried every remedy in the book.

GetUpAgain · 26/06/2019 23:28

I have a finger wart that must be 12 years old by now, I have tried a lot of things but it wont fucking go. So now I ignore it and its actually getting smaller.

Tolleshunt · 26/06/2019 23:33

Oh yes, the ‘it’ll go away by itself’ old chestnut. Well yes, if you have 15 years you can put up with it for.... (or 24! 😱). But why on earth would you want to??

Duct tape or Bazooka, but the filing with Bazooka is a PITA (and wouldn’t it be more likely to spread the virus around?).

Or try cutting it off with a Stanley knife, like an old bf of mine. No, don’t do that, he looked like Lady Macbeth. It finally pushed off, though!

IamEarthymama · 26/06/2019 23:39

Rub the inside of a broad bean shell on it, then bury the broad bean shell in the garden.
As the shell rots away so shall the wart disappear!

So my nanna told me and ... it doesn't work!
I went to the hospital 3 times a week for 2 years to have it 'frozen' and ... it didn't work!
Just disappeared eventually
OP and other sufferers I do hope something works for you, it's a mystery.

AppleDump · 26/06/2019 23:42

Have you peed on it? That was one of the many things I was advised to do.

As horrible as it sounds it worked for me ☹️

Haworthia · 26/06/2019 23:45

Basically, it seems that you need to get to body to recognise it has a virus. But because the wart (or verruca) exists on the skin, the virus doesn’t really enter the bloodstream. Er, or something like that.

My mum struggled with a wart for years and years. Did all the agonising freezing treatments at hospital with no improvement. Then scalded her hand and boom... wart gone.

Duct tape sorted my daughter’s verruca, but it may have had something to do with the tape ripping most of it out. Whatever works Grin

CharityConundrum · 27/06/2019 11:11

@Iwanttoredecorateagain

I had the opposite - I had warts and verrucas and when the warts were frozen off, the verrucas scarpered too, presumably for fear of the same treatment!

Lavendersquare · 27/06/2019 21:44

Tried lots of things with my daughters wart, and it stubbornly refused to go. I read on here about tea tree oil and I dabbed it on twice a day, within a week it had gone! Coincidence maybe but it worked!

mumto3boysHE · 28/06/2019 15:54

Well it seems like different things work for different people. Or not at all for others!

I've had the duct tape off since yesterday, simply because it fell off after my shower. The soft white lump has reduced down to hard skin again but it looks smaller so I'll stick some more tape on it when I get home and just keep going for a week or so.

I'll update later.

Many thanks

Have you ever tired nail varnish on top of it? My daughter had several on her hands when she was younger so I kept them all covered in clear nail varnish and they disappeared within weeks

mumslave · 12/08/2019 03:20

A podiatrist friend of mine suggested the unofficial treatment of covering with a plaster for a few days to soften, filing it with a disposable emery board until it bleeds, putting a plaster on for a week, then filing again until it bleeds...and repeat...
Tried it on a big wart I had had on my finger for 2 years and it worked a treat. Tried it on my 4 year old’s massive verruca and wishing 2 weeks the thing had disappeared.

pooopypants · 12/08/2019 22:35

I used to have a wart on my finger as a child. I stuck a thorn in it, it disappeared!

I don't recommend sticking thorns in body parts though, just my experience!

HermioneWeasley · 02/09/2019 19:22

@mumto3boysHE how’s it going?

Soubriquet · 02/09/2019 19:28

I had loads of warts along my buttocks and tops of me legs.

Tried freezing one but it hurt too much so never did it again.

However, went on holiday one year to Spain, and woke up to find blood in the bed.

The heat had dried them out and then me wriggling in my sleep popped them.

I was wart free by the time I got home though I do have some scarring

elQuintoConyo · 02/09/2019 19:45

I opened this thread as I have one on my head Envy but don't think duct tape will work unfortunately.

However, I'm laughing my tits off at Soubriquet and her Spanish Method Grin sorry sou

I may try nail varnish on mine, but it might look funny.

Soubriquet · 02/09/2019 20:27

That’s ok Grin

It was amusing. My mum wasn’t impressed though. Being it was a hotel and they were grumpy over the blood sheets

myidentitymycrisis · 02/09/2019 20:37

I had them all over my hands as a child. Eventually my aunt applied witch hazel everynight for 2 weeks and they went.

I recently got rid of a skin tag by repeatedly covering with apple cider vinegar and making tape. Its not a virus I know but it reminded me of the duct tape idea.

OllyBJolly · 14/09/2019 12:23

Tea tree oil worked on a facial wart of mine. Didn't want to try anything else in case it scarred. put it on with a cotton bud every night for about three weeks and it just dropped off

should have taken a photo for you all

perplexedagain · 23/09/2019 09:56

I had a verruca that would not shift. Duct tape did nothing on its own. I had to invest in a corn knife and file it down repeated until eventually it went. Apple cider vinegar worked on a hand wart I had (applied and covered). Am trying to get rid of huge wart on DH thumb - will update if any progress
