So, I'm suffocating my wart with duct tape...

Not a sentence I say everyday!

I've had this wart for years. After 2 years or so I spoke to a pharmacist who said its would disappear in its own. Obviously it hasn't. It's grown much bigger.

How do I get rid of it? I've tried creams, oils, tablets. I've filled it down, picked bits off. It just won't go!

It's been 5 years!

It's in a funny place which doesn't help. On the end of my middle finger. And I think it's growing under my nail as well and coming out again at the top.

It hurts at times and looks unsightly.

I'm on the duct tape method at the moment. But, being in the end of a finger, it's awkward to keep it sealed. I'm changing the tape every day. It's softening but I don't knew if that means it's dying or not.

Any ideas?

I got rid of DS's warts using duct tape, after all other efforts had failed. I kept filing the wart to make it bleed - I think the theory is that you have to make the immune system aware that the wart is there, so that it then kicks it out. Apparently, the rubber in the duct tape glue also helps with the general irritation, which helps alert the immune system to the presence of the wart virus.

An apple cider vinegar-soaked cotton ball taped onto a verruca worked like a charm for me

I was reading this the other day, then came across this on the Daily Fail site www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-7515235/Give-ADULT-cancer-fighting-HPV-jab-save-thousands-lives-experts-demand.html

I was wondering if it was worth paying for an up to date HPV jab (3 x £165 Shock ) in the hope that it might also rid one of skin warts too (but also cervical HPV and possibly a whole lot of other stuff if the article is anything to go by)

Apple cider vinegar soaked in a cotton wool ball and taped to the verruca worked for us. Learnt the tip on here.

Verruca turned black, filed it away til I saw pink verruca and re taped with ACV. Continued for a week or so and it eventually filed away to nothing.

Oops, posted twice. The photo on the right is today after an hour of poking and scraping with a sharp knife. Didn't hurt, nice new pink skin underneath 😁

Good for you for persevering. Cool photos!

Superdrug sell ‘Witch Naturally Clear Blemish Stick’, it’s meant for spots but works for warts. It’s less than £3.

Sorry! Just realised this is an old thread.

mumto3boysHE · 03/02/2020 16:25

No, it's not an old thread. I've just updated it.

I had a wart on my foot once as a child. The doctor injected some painkiller and then burned it off with a miniature blow torch. Never had one since.

If I did have one on my hand, I would try corn remover discs under a plaster.

Warts are caused by a virus in your skin cells. It makes them go wild and multiply. Causing the raised rough area. So you need a gentle acid to slowly eat away at the diseased cells until you get down to the normal ones underneath. Freezing, burning are all fast ways to kill the abnormal warty cells to get to the normal ones. If duct tape works, it won’t be because of suffocation. Warts don’t need oxygen. It will be because the adhesive in the tape has some acidic property that eats away at the cells. That’s why I’d get a corn remover disc as it’s concentrated salicylic acid which is proven to safely remove excess skin cells without scarring.
