I think I have a tonsil stone??? *pics*

Had my tonsils out at 4yo and never had a problem then for a few months I've had this white patch on one side... now it feels like it's catching on my tongue, is it a tonsil stone do you think??

My dd gets tonsil stones, the gp recommended she picked them out with a tooth pic!

Do you think the doctors would take out the rest of the tonsil if that's what it actually is? I think I actually had tonsillitis a year or 2 ago, either that or laryngitis or something 😬 I'm so paranoid about this now 😭😭😭

Dd now has a sore throat and one tonsil is currently huge
There is no point taking her to gp as they won't prescribe anything until the tonsil is red and infected.

Her school whinged at her recently about her attendance. I told her if she has tonsillitis I will not send her to school.

If this does become tonsillitis again I will be having a long chat with her school and gp.

If they left a little bit of tonsil behind it can get infected as with tonsillitis- my doctor attractively refers to it as 'stump-itis', I get it a lot and it's bloody painful, usually as a little pre or post laryngitis/bronchitis treat. Dreading the winter, but from October I wear a scarf every day, all the time, even indoors and it does help a little.

bear I'm not that bad! I do get sore throats quite often though I'll mention it when I go to the doctors next

witches I'm so sorry your Dd is feeling rotten :( if it's affecting her school though I'd speak to GP and push for a tonsillectomy x

I'm a hard core sporner but tonsil stones are just too much for me. Why can't I just have a nice big cyst instead???

hathaway haha it's bad, I don't have anything to pick at so I've resorted to watching vids on YouTube

I got a tonsil stone removal kit from amazon - it was only cheap and is amazing! It has a handle and different heads for poking/scooping/tweezing and the best bit is it all lights up down to the very tip of whatever head you're using - it's weird what you can see in your tonsil crypts!

I don't get stones very often, but getting them out was always unpleasant and sore and often I ended up making the tissue around the stone bleed. Now I just give it a bit of a poke at the edge with a scoopy thing and it just pops out!

I actually felt a bit emotional the first time I used it because it was so easy and painless.

Doesn't it make you gag?

I'm going to take a photo of the back of my mouth now to see if I've got any of these!

I've had them before, and others are right. They STINK.

I've had them come out by themselves but I don't know if I could dig them out without retching and drooling all over my hands.

Your hands would then be tainted with tonsil-stone stink; lovely!

You'd have to have pretty long fingers to manage to get them out without an implement.

It's a non-starter for me. I can't even hold my own tongue down with gagging, let alone shove anything down the back of my mouth

I've only had one that I know of and I coughed it out when I gagged cleaning my teeth. It stunk!!

I can never pick the buggers out I've got a sensitive gag reflex. I've always got to wait until I cough or sneeze them out. of those who can pick them out.

I wish I had more opportunities to play with the stink-balls...
