Had my tonsils out at 4yo and never had a problem then for a few months I've had this white patch on one side... now it feels like it's catching on my tongue, is it a tonsil stone do you think??

Nice!
How did you get it out?

RoystonVaseySmegHead · 06/09/2017 18:03

The arm of a pair of sunglasses.... it was the only thing I had to hand that was long enough to reach Blush once it had started I could do it with my finger though

Oh I get them and they are grim. Listerine helps

RoystonVaseySmegHead · 06/09/2017 18:39

Do I just use it like normal or do I have to gargle it or anything?

OP posts:
WhoWants2Know · 06/09/2017 18:42

Gargle it. My youngest DD gets them and I can tell when she has one by the smell.

WanderingTrolley1 · 06/09/2017 20:06

Ooh. Lovely. I've only had a tonsil stone a couple of times, but have thoroughly savoured (the squishing and sniffing...)

torthecatlady · 06/09/2017 20:17

I used to get tonsil stones all the time as a youngster. I didn't have access to the internet back then (in the 90s Hmm) so never knew what they were until recent years!

Since having my tonsils out (11 years ago) I have not had one since!

I used to love squeezing them!

RoystonVaseySmegHead · 06/09/2017 20:46

catlady I had mine out I shouldn't be able to get them surely? I've heard of tonsils growing back though it might be a weird urban ledgend... I have a really bad gag reflex though it's really hard to gargle 😫😫

Apparently, when the tonsils are removed, it is possible for a little bit to be left, so you can get tonsillitis.
I actually had quinsy last year, it was bloody awful! I'd never heard of it until then. It felt similar to tonsillitis, but worse!
I hope you don't have either! Tonsil stones can exist without tonsillitis though! I think it's just bacteria! Just gargle with mouthwash or salt water and they will hopefully go!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/09/2017 22:14

Excellent pics Grin

Gargle vigorously with salt water for as long as you can at least twice a day. It really helps keep them at bay.

TwoMummyPigs · 06/09/2017 22:17

I got 3 out today. Much larger than that. I could feel/smell them for days. I hate them. So annoying and make my breath reek when I have one that needs to come out

Whatslovegottodo · 06/09/2017 22:20

I used to get them disgusting stinky buggers (best way to remove is a wire brush used for flossing between teeth) and much worse tonsillitis all the time. Was due to be referred for surgery.
Since I gave up dairy I've not had a single one and my asthma has disappeared also.
Not preaching, but worth sharing as it's been life changing for me.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/09/2017 22:20

It's so great when you manage to hook them out,you feel so much better afterwards.

Haribeau · 06/09/2017 22:22

Torthecat - I have quinsy right now, it's bloody miserable

torthecatlady · 06/09/2017 22:34

Haribeau - I hope you're getting treatment for it!

TopBitchoftheWitches · 06/09/2017 22:36

My dd2 gets these all the time.
Along with tonsillitis.

They are not pleasant.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 06/09/2017 22:38

whatslove

My dd has asthma as well.

I will discuss what you have said with her and see what she thinks.

(She is 12).

RoystonVaseySmegHead · 07/09/2017 09:23

I don't feel any better though, i couldn't feel it apart from when it was rubbing on my tongue boak I just feel quite queasy at the memory of it tbh. I'm a hard core sporner but tonsil stones are just too much for me Envy
