So this thing on my leg....

...has been there for years. Like since childhood. Occasionally it gets a bit sore and raised and then I tend to give it a little squeeze/dig/prod but nothing. I've come to the conclusion it's a huge mass of hair under the skin. What do we think?

(excuse my blotchy legs, they don't like being shaved Confused)

Looks bruised. Are you sure it is not part of an enlarged segment of vein?

KentMum2008 · 24/08/2017 21:54

Nope, I've prodded and poked and possibly pierced the skin several times and it doesn't even really bleed! It's been there since I was about 9, I'm 31 now so definitely not a bruise. It's the occasional sweeping and soreness that makes me think there's something under there.

Swelling, not sweeping!

For reference, it's on my shin about 10cm below my knee

I don't like the look of this, stop poking it and shaving over it and see your GP. Be prepared to answer any questions about how much it has grown over a given time frame, and whether it bleeds.

MusicToMyEars800 · 24/08/2017 21:56

How strange, have you ever asked your GP about it?

KentMum2008 · 24/08/2017 21:57

Nope, never mentioned it to GP. It hasn't grown significantly that I can remember, perhaps not even at all.

I had something similar on the back of your thighs for 12 years. Turned in to a varicose vein a couple of years ago.

ChainingDaisy · 24/08/2017 22:01

My thigh, not your thighs. That would be very odd. Fucking phone.

KentMum2008 · 24/08/2017 22:03

Hmmm i was convinced it was a big lump of hair. Might mention it next time I'm at the docs.

OP posts:
Maryann1975 · 24/08/2017 22:11

If it was a lump of hair, wouldn't you have found it when you were prodding and poking at it?

Ask the go next time you are there.

Ttbb · 24/08/2017 22:49

Could easily be cancer. Just ask your doctor. Make an appointment specifically for this.

frenchfancy17 · 24/08/2017 22:52

Get in touch with the pimple popper lady Grin

KentMum2008 · 25/08/2017 00:11

A cancer that's been just sitting there chilling for over 20 years?!

I've never really broken the skin properly, the skin is actually really tough there. I've only ever squeezed it like a blackhead and once I broke the skin with a pin but sod all came out so I left it.

Op I have one too. It's been there as long as I can remember. No idea what it is though.

So this thing on my leg....
KentMum2008 · 25/08/2017 00:18

Oooh superman, glad I'm not alone! It's puzzled me and my mum for most of my life! Mines pretty lumpy though, which is what makes me think there's something under it!

Out2pasture · 25/08/2017 00:21

being "stabbed" with a lead pencil leaves marks like this. the pencil breaks down a bit and stains the skin.
I would see a dermatologist at any point to make sure it isn't cancerous even if you have had it for decades.

dangerrabbit · 25/08/2017 00:29

Broken vein patch? I have some spider veins that are blue.

SupermanStoleMyPants · 25/08/2017 00:31

Mine is rather small but is a bump atm too. Most the time it is just flat. I had a dig in there a few years a go as I wanted to see if the skin underneath was discoloured but it was all normal.

cailisto · 26/08/2017 20:45

I have something similar from being stabbed by a pencil. If you have no memory of that ever happening to you, then I'd go and get it checked out by a doctor asap x

KentMum2008 · 26/08/2017 21:30

Nope, genuinely no memory of being stabbed! I'll book an appt on Tuesday. 👍🏻

YellowBucket · 31/08/2017 05:08

Did you see the Dr?

flumpybear · 31/08/2017 06:23

Blue nevus or small Mongolian blue spot perhaps?!

KentMum2008 · 31/08/2017 08:16

No, not yet. It's not anything urgent so I'm just going to wait until my next routine appt.
