Is there any lag time between covid and long covid? We all had covid recently and worry about one of our children in particular as they are prone to chest infections already.

sylv165 · 21/02/2022 14:52

Is it possible to be diagnosed with long covid if you suspect you had covid before widespread testing was available and your symptoms have been ongoing since then?

perfctimperfct · 21/02/2022 15:06

I luckily haven't had covid but how bad would it be for my 5 week old to get it? Would it just be like a cold? And will babies be getting the jab some time soon?

Nottheshrinkingcapgrandpa · 21/02/2022 19:11

Why is it so hard to get health professionals to take asthma / possible long Covid seriously?

Really18 · 21/02/2022 20:13

I had covid and had chest tightness during that period. Now I seem to have chest tightness in the evenings. Is this a covid side effect and will it subside?

frankiefirstyear · 21/02/2022 21:20

My dp had covid at end of 21 and still gets the rash flare up frequently. Is there anything he can do to help prevent this? He's due his booster once the post positive covid time has lapsed, but caught it when he was double jabbed.

Solo · 22/02/2022 00:05

I currently have covid as does my 15-year-old. We both have health issues anyway (CFS (myself), Dd EDS, and has extreme fatigue), but we are both having trouble actually sleeping. Is this likely to right itself (seems a difficult question to pose) fairly quickly, or is there anything we can do to help us get to sleep as we are both exhausted? Dd usually sleeps all the time.
Thank you.

I have just had covid and now when I smell or eat certain things like salt and vinegar crisps, my nose burns and I smell a strange smell which then gives me a headache. Is this a normal side effect?

RagnarorBjorn · 22/02/2022 11:08

Hi, my 13 year old daughter has recently had covid, on day 15 she has developed a cluster of spots on one side of her face that seem to be spreading, is it likely to be linked to the covid virus?

PearTree123 · 22/02/2022 14:34

I heard that the "super cold" which was recently going around can help give some immunity to covid, is this true?! Thanks

dizzydizzydizzy · 22/02/2022 15:05

What does it affect different people so differently? DD, DP and I all have it now. DD is 17 and only not going to school because she is testing positive. DP is coughing like somebody who smokes 40 a day but able to do his (office) work normall (but obviously from home). I have no obvious symptoms but feel absolutely exhausted and get a headache if I try to do anything beyond say putting jacket potatoes i the oven or washing up.

None of us have lost out sense of smell or taste I'm glad to say.

dizzydizzydizzy · 22/02/2022 15:06

I forgot to say, DP and I have had the booster, DD is double vaxxed.

Is it possible to have a full health check including heart health after having covid? My husband had it late 2020 before vaccinations were available, he was very unwell with it but luckily didn't need hospital but i worry about long term effects. My brother in law was also very ill around the same time and has since had a heart attack and I do think it was connected.

I wanted to ask similar - which is do you think long covid affects longevity as well as immediate health. I'm now nearly two years in, still on heavy medication, and it would be nice to have an idea of my chances.
MrsFrTedCrilly · 23/02/2022 00:51

Is there anything that I can do to recover my sense of smell post covid?
Does smell training work?
Thank you

Byrdie · 23/02/2022 10:54

Can symptoms from covid come and go? So someone could 'recover' then have symptoms again after without actually getting covid again?

gingerhills · 23/02/2022 12:14

Are any of these questions ever going to get answered?

MadeForThis · 23/02/2022 12:59

Is it usual for your o2 reading to be 94% after having covid?

Evilpixie41 · 23/02/2022 17:15

I have just had covid. Was sent to hospital with potential gastritis and tested positive whilst there. Other then tiredness and severe stomach ache have had no symptoms. Was testing negative by day 4. In hospital my CRP markers were very high. Would this be from Covid and will they go down again? The drs did nt seem to know.

JaffavsCookie · 23/02/2022 21:45

I had covid in November, am literally just over the exhausted phase but still no real sense of taste or smell, when will that return and what can i do to help it?
Thanks

GalaxyStars · 23/02/2022 23:45

I have gone off milk since contracting covid and still feel queasy almost 3 weeks later. Do you have any idea when the sense of taste will come back? Thanks

TheYearOfSmallThings · 24/02/2022 07:59

What is this an ad for?

Sooverthemill · 25/02/2022 08:43

Do you think that the large numbers of people suffering with Long COVID will bring any research and treatment or even cure for those people suffering from other post viral conditions such as severe ME/POTs etc? Will there be any overlap?

GraceEMumsnet · 25/02/2022 09:55

Thanks everyone for all of your questions! Dr Zoe will be back online to answer some of your questions by the end of next week. In the meantime, congratulations to @Dizzywizz who is the winner of the prize draw! Smile

@MrsBlondie

2 months after a very bad dose of covid I still have trouble breathing with exercise. Will this last forever now or time needed? What can I do to help?
Hi @MrsBlondie. We are still learning how long the illness lasts and it varies between people. It’s important to note that lasting effects aren’t unique to COVID-19 – other viral illnesses can also have lasting effects - such as glandular fever for example. A study led by Leicester researchers suggests that among those who needed hospital treatment for the initial illness, it is common for it to last five months or more, and there are separate reports of it lasting 12 months or more (this includes both people who didn’t need hospital treatment initially and those who did.) If your breathing problems continue beyond 3 months, then your GP would be the best We are still learning how long the illness lasts and it varies between people.
