Designing and purchasing for a new baby’s nursery can be a daunting experience. Do you have questions about how to create the ideal, babyproof nursery? Maybe you’d like to know more about the colours which work best for babies, or which furniture would be best for your space? Perhaps you’d like an idea of what you should be aware of safety-wise?

Leave any questions you have for John Lewis nursery expert Deborah Glen.

Here’s what Deborah Glen, John Lewis nursery expert has to say: ''I have worked at JL for over 6 years but have 22 years’ experience working within the nursery industry, I am now the selling coach for Stratford and enjoy helping customers with their nursery needs. I am also a grandmother to two boys, so use my own knowledge and usage of the products when assisting customers. Lots of customers come back to introduce me to their newborns. It's nice to see the new additions to the JL families!"

Post your questions to Deborah below by 4th July 2016 and we will send over 20 questions for her to respond to. We will then post a link to her responses on the thread ASAP.

Everyone who submits a question (regardless of whether it’s answered or not) will be entered into a prize draw to win an Uppababy Vista pushchair.

Thanks, and good luck!

What are the best blackout blind choices for the nursery?

ZylaB · 25/06/2016 12:47

Hi! Just how good are cotbeds? Are they worth it or is it better to just put a little one into a normal single once they've outgrown their cots?

Also, any storage hints for a nursery? What works well for all the stuff we seem to accumulate?

Thanks

BelOfTheBall79 · 25/06/2016 12:48

Do you think the nursery needs to be designed differently depending on the age of the child? For example first few months baby will be sleeping with me...and then conscious that what a 6 month old needs might be different to what a 2 year old requires?

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 25/06/2016 12:54

What level of lighting is best for a nursery or child's bedroom?
Should we be getting blackout blinds or not?
If using night lights, is it better to have constant light or motion activated - I'll need enough light to check on the child or change a nappy in the night, but don't want too much light, obviously. Are certain colours of lighting better?

Hi,

I just wanted to get some clarification on cot bumpers. I have read that they shouldn't be used, but see them for sale in lots of places!

Thanks

Our baby will be moving in to join her sister in her room when she is older (sister will be 4). What do I need to be aware of with different ages sharing a space? I've already thought that naps might not be possible in there so we may need to keep toys elsewhere and the bedroom for sleeping and dressing.

Having to put DC2 who is arriving in January in our tiniest box room. Just about able to get a cot in there but i need some storage and would love a nursing chair. Do you have any recommendations for compact storage / places to change and feed baby?

Sweetpotatoaddict · 25/06/2016 14:26

What age can babies start using a duvet and pillow? And have you any hints for keeping them underneath the duvet? Thanks

Sammyislost · 25/06/2016 14:27

We love technology, Are there any gadgets etc you can recommend to make the nursery safe, but cute and fun for the little one?

Joinourclub · 25/06/2016 14:37

I'm looking for a compact and comfortable chair for nighttime nursing. Any suggestions? What shape provides the best position for feeding? Do I want a foot stool too?

wikitwitter · 25/06/2016 14:59

I had an emergency c-section last time and likely to have planned c-section this time, what things can I do to ensure the things I need to look after baby are accessible, any hints and tips? Thank you.

Iamthemotherofdragons · 25/06/2016 16:12

Which pieces of furniture would you say are essential for a nursery besides a cot? I don't want to overcrowd the space.

Ihatechoosingnames · 25/06/2016 16:16

When cotbeds are turned into beds what age are they be suitable up to?

Ihatechoosingnames · 25/06/2016 16:17

My phone added extra words to my question Blush I'll try again: what age are cotbeds suitable up to once in 'bed' format?

Josieannathe2nd · 25/06/2016 16:35

Any tips for planning a nursery that they will love as a toddler? And preferably sleep all night in!

squeezed · 25/06/2016 17:14

Dd2 will be sharing with dd1 (aged 3) in a few months. Any tips on how to best design the room so that sleep for both of them is not disturbed as little as possible.

insancerre · 25/06/2016 17:30

Black and white or rainbow colours?

TornNotTorn · 25/06/2016 17:31

We're squeezed for space and any potential new baby would eventually have to share with ds2, who'd be about 5 by then, all things going to plan. How's best to ensure each child has their own space when sharing really is inevitable? And how do we 'sell' sharing to ds as a positive thing rather than baby being seen as a usurper!

loosechange · 25/06/2016 18:10

What are the top 5 products that sell, and are they the ones you would recommend for your relatives. If not, what would you recommend? That might be an unfair question, so if preferred, just what would you recommend for your relatives?

waitingforwombat · 25/06/2016 18:16

Any particular advantages of a nursing chair over a comfy arm chair? Hoping the latter might have more life for snuggling and reading books with toddlers, and then as comfy chair in older Childs room...

Sleepysausage · 25/06/2016 18:25

Should I try to recreate our nursery when travelling away from home to help my baby feel settled and comfortable?

ulab · 25/06/2016 19:05

Our nursery is very narrow. Any advice where to find narrow (small) chair/armchair to use as nursing chair? All nursing chairs I saw are pretty big...

vickyors · 25/06/2016 19:21

We're having a baby girl, but she's going to be going into the spare room, and when our in laws come over from South Africa, they'll need it as their room (for up to a month at a time).. How can we make it dual purpose? (It's not a large room.. Will just fit a double bed and a cot.) I'm not sure where we could fit a changing table or anything..

RifRafia · 25/06/2016 19:33

We have limited space in what will be our new nursery, so don't think I will be able to fit a full sized nursing chair/footrest. Are there any smaller yet still comfortable chairs that you would recommend, as I expect to be spending a lot of time in it during night feeds Smile

YellowShockedFace · 25/06/2016 19:35

Our smallest room would make such a small nursery - how do I make it bright so it looks bigger but without using /vivid bright colours that might keep little ones awake? Thank you Smile
