We are working with McDonald’s to help them develop their new Happy Meal menu. They have asked us to find 10 Mumsnetters who have a child aged 5-11 to come along to a private event at McDonald’s HQ in East Finchley, London to try some potential additions to the Happy Meal menu. The event will take place on Wednesday 23rd May, from 14:30-16:00 and all attendees will receive £30 for taking part. (You won’t need to bring your children along to the event).

Here’s what McDonald’s has to say: “We are constantly looking for ways to enhance our menu from introducing new items to evolving the recipes of our iconic favourites. We’ve taken big steps to improve our Happy Meal in recent years and reducing saturated fat, salt and sugar content across our menu remains a priority. This is why we’re excited to work with Mumsnet to offer even greater choice for parents and their families. We’ve heard from Mumsnetters about what they’d love to see added to the Happy Meal menu, and this is a chance to try the potential additions. We’re excited to see what you think!”

All selected participants will need to be able to travel to East Finchley for 2.30pm on Wednesday 23rd May and discuss their thoughts on the potential new additions. There will be another event on Saturday 23rd June in London, where McDonald’s will be launching the newest addition to the Happy Meal menu following feedback from the attendees. We’d love for you to attend this as well, along with your children to see what you helped create and to try the new menu. After this event we’d like you to leave your feedback on a thread on Mumsnet about your experience and your thoughts on the new Happy Meal menu, as well as posting about your day on one form of social media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.).

McDonald’s will pay for travel expenses of up to £30 and all attendees will be given a £30 cheque for each event they attend, to be delivered to their homes after the event.

If you are interested in taking part, please sign up here.

Thanks

Landfill on the toys?! They are the only toys in my house that don’t break!!!

That junior menu mentioned upthread sounds brilliant, we are at an inbetween stage with my eldest.
Yes to veg as well as fries, it’s barely enough to feed a pigeon without!

accentadroitebitch · 14/05/2018 17:17

A vegetarian friend of mine was told that the veggie option for her daughter was fish fingers Hmm

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 15/05/2018 08:54

FWIW, though, DS (8) happened to say the last time we visited McDonalds that he would like the option to buy the toy but pass on the food

FetchezLaVache He does have that option; you can buy Happy Meal toys separately for 99p.

I couldn't make the day but I'd like to say that I'd really prefer it if the chips that come with the happy meal were unsalted.

formerbabe You can ask for the the chips to be unsalted Smile

Also grapes in fruit bags need to be sliced in 2 for safety!!

NewBallsPlease00 Grapes cut in half only last for a matter of hours; it would not be possible to pre-cut the grapes before packaging. We do, however, provide cutlery if you wish to cut them in half yourself.

I had a row heated exchange once about whether they'd sell me a happy meal without the meat, and put the veggie wrap I had bought separately inside the box hmm.

TheCatWearsOrange It’s not possible for us to put your wrap in the happy meal box, as the size of the wraps are too large for the box. Even if you bought the Veggie patty on its own, we wouldn’t be able to fit it in the box.

They weren’t being difficult; there really is no physical way it’s possible due to the small size of the box.

As an aside, for those wanting a veggie option, a quick fix could be a cheeseburger no meat? Then it’s just like a cheese sandwich (and you can ask for it plain no meat too, so it comes without everything else) Smile

(I’m not a spokesman for McDonalds, by the way! I just work there)

Yes decent veggie options for kids AND adults please.

MissReginaPhilange · 15/05/2018 19:04

Can't get to London but can you maybe offer sweet potato or carrot fries instead of just potato. And maybe cater for gluten free kids...and dairy free kids .. as it stands the only thing my son can eat from "the happy meal centre" as they call it. Is fries and fruit bags Hmm

MrsWifey · 16/05/2018 13:25

Not happy meal related but just so you know, the veggie pattys are cooked with the fries so are completely vegetarian, unlike the apple pies which share oil with the chicken so can't be classed as vegetarian.
Also, if you want to know what's in your food ask to see the allergen book, it lists every ingredient for every aspect of the food, so the bun, sauce, nugget coating etc.

LilQueenie · 16/05/2018 15:00

They can put the fries of a veggie meal in the box though for kids. I've asked often and most are happy to do it. Its usually the new employees who waiver on it as its not on a screen in front of them.

LilQueenie While we are happy to give you the box and place the fries you bought in it, we cannot give you the toy unless you pay the 99p for it.

Stop slaughtering animals in the thousands to make your shitty, disgusting and heart attack inducing 'meals'.

Not a fan of the Happy Meal then cake?

LilQueenie · 17/05/2018 09:37

Rouge I know I just buy the toy seperate.

glitterfarts · 17/05/2018 11:17

I wish the filet o fish was in the happy meal. It's no bigger than the cheeseburger.

Mine are 8+9, rarely get the happy meal as it isn't filling enough for them. So, yes please to a junior menu eg 9 nuggets instead of 4 etc.

(9 yr old is 155cm tall and yesterday bought a size 6-7 t-shirt, so tall and thin - they are not eating so much because they are fat children)

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 17/05/2018 13:05

glitterfarts You have the option of Fish Fingers for the Happy Meal. With the box we put the Filet in, it wouldn’t fit in the Happy Meal Box.

The same goes for 9 nuggets; they wouldn’t fit in a Happy Meal Box. You can buy them off the regular menu and buy the toy separately if you wish.

Catzpyjamas · 17/05/2018 19:52

Vegetarian option please!!

SasBel · 17/05/2018 21:25

Another vote for scrapping the marketing of this shit to kids!

listsandbudgets · 19/05/2018 08:33

Another request for vegeterian options

Stinkbomb · 19/05/2018 22:27

Mid afternoon in London with only £30 travel expenses is hardly them looking for a wide variety of people & responses, is it!
There are millions of kids & parents outside of London, you know!
Even when if I could manage it with work , there's no way that £30 travel expenses could get me from Derbyshire & back for that time.
Another example of these huge corps not actually caring about the rest of Britain outside of the Capital.

Maxstress3 · 19/05/2018 23:11

My son will only eat fillet of fish burger and that doesn't come in happy meal !! Please include this or better still would love halal option

Maxstress3 As I mentioned above, you have the option of Fish Fingers for the Happy Meal. With the box we put the Filet in, it wouldn’t fit in the Happy Meal Box. It also costs too much to be put as a Happy Meal option.

You are free to buy the toy separately and ask for a box, though.

Faithless12 · 20/05/2018 20:41

Wailmer the filet of fish doesn’t need to come in the box. Plus what you are saying isn’t helpful for those of us with young children who don’t want or need a medium size meal.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 20/05/2018 23:33

Faithless12 It’s not just about the box, though. Look at the cost of the other options in the Happy Meal (hamburgers 89p, cheeseburgers 99p etc.) They’re all quite considerably cheaper than the Filet o Fish which is £3.09.

It’s just too expensive to be in a Happy Meal.

As I said, you have the option to buy the toy separately and ask for the box. You also have the option to get small fries and a small drink.

QueenofWhisperz · 24/05/2018 10:58

is there a new thread up from yesterday? I just wanted to say thank you for having me and ask what was in the goodie bags

Lovelydovey · 14/07/2018 11:53

Hi - so my cheque for expenses has turned up but not the £30 for attending. Is this being sent separately?
