This thread is for the 100 MNers and bloggers who attended the No7 returning to work with confidence event on Monday 27th March. Thanks so much for coming along, we hope you enjoyed it! The event was all about “returning to work with confidence” and was for those parents who had either recently gone back to work after a break for children or who are planning a return.

You can view our Facebook Live Stream here

Here’s what No7 had to say about the event:

"At No7 we believe that when a woman feels in control she has the confidence to go out and do anything and so we are delighted to have the opportunity to support MNers and bloggers who are returning to work. We know that beauty for many women is about more than looking pretty which is why we’d love to give MNers the chance to hear from some inspirational women on how they faced getting back in to the workplace as well as share some top tips from our No7 advisers on quick ways to get their make up just right - especially in those early days back at work when you're juggling a million things at once and getting into a new routine."

Attendees:
Below are a few feedback questions for you to answer - if you have any more comments, please feel free to add them to your response. Do share your story using #No7Ready. If you are a blogger, we'd love to see you post a link to your blog post on this thread.

Why did you want to attend the event? What’s your current working status?
What did you learn from the event?
What did you enjoy about it?
Did it inspire you/give you confidence? If yes, in what ways?

All those who share feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a £300 Boots voucher. We'd also love attendees to share their thoughts on social media using #No7Ready.

Non attendees:
To be in with a chance of winning a No7 hamper (worth £150), please tell us what makes you feel confident every day. This can be literally anything at all, even if it’s a very small thing such as your morning coffee to wake you up! Everyone who does so will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win the goodies!

Thanks, and good luck with the prize draws!

Attendee

Wanted to attend - meet other women in similar position and get advice

Current situation - unemployed after contracting in banks & looking for new job

What did I think

  • No7 and mumsnet put on a great event, lively and professional
  • didn't like speakers all being bloggers / fashion & also not declaring how they made income (felt fake) especially as 3 of them said they had very high earning City husbands. I'd love to be a blogger & give advice to other women but my husband is not wealthy enough (!)
  • why didn't you have Speakers from different industries e.g. Health, banking, teaching, retail. Would have been much more relevant? I've gone back to work x3 into banking earning around £100k per time contracting & I would have really good advice for other new mums going back
To financial services.
  • felt patronising hearing a woman who left the City and relies on high net worth husband to give 'life coaching' advice. Fair enough if she has excellent career experience as a working
Mother but setting up a business advising others whilst failing to continue to do / make her original degree and career work didn't sit right with me.
  • no7 foundation is amazing picked up free sample and bought other products. Took on board make up advice.
  • if you do another event I'd be happy to give banking career advice if it is sector specific and you do not give my surname . Thanks.

At the moment it's a particular sing! Just 3 minutes of having the volume turned up and it's topped my confidence up loads

Having had the time to have a proper shower , wash my hair, do my make up, dress in decent clean clothes - not always easy with 2 small DC!!

Definitely looking good helps me to feel good & confident!

lizd31 · 02/04/2017 08:06

Living my my own philosophy gives me confidence 'if you see someone without a smile give them yours'

janney3 · 02/04/2017 09:30

Non attendee.

What makes me feel confident is not rushing and always being early.
I always prepare an outfit the night before too. I need to feel mentally prepared so researching about the meeting topic is paramount and knowing questions that might arise makes me feel in control.
Always have clean hair too.

Treating myself to a lovely new handbag gives me confidence

kacky · 02/04/2017 09:46

I feel confident everyday after my 7 year old grandson says "Have a lovely day Nanna" as he rushes out to school.

Standing up straight, dropping my shoulders back and smiling makes me feel confident. I try and walk tall every morning. Good for posture and sense of self.

kittykomp · 02/04/2017 10:45

just be yourself

muppet1501 · 02/04/2017 12:09

I didnt attend to conference but what makes me feel confident everyday is when i have my foundation on, simple make up and a positive comment to myself.

cookiedough84 · 02/04/2017 12:52

Might sound strange, but there are two little things that make me feel confident every day. Having my to do list ready makes me feel confident and ready to take on the day. It just means I can prioritise tasks more easily. At the end of each night too - no matter how difficult or stressful the day has been - I take a few minutes to jot down a few things that have made me happy or I'm proud of achieving that day. Sometimes it is just silly little things but it really helps to keep me confident and ready to take on the next day.

beckyinman · 02/04/2017 15:07

Being comfortable in my own skin - and making sure that skin is moisturised with SPF!

cluckyhen · 02/04/2017 15:37

My fitness helps me feel confident. I have PTSD with severe anxiety & body dysmorphia but getting myself out into the gym or running helps me immensly. I've recently completed my first ever marathon and it felt wonderful to achieve it

Pickofthepops · 02/04/2017 16:15

Non attendee - agree with the poster who said about clean hair. This is a must for me. Also, staying hydrated. This makes me feel alert, healthy and able to face the day. If I don't drink enough water I quickly feel less than 100%.

cwalliss82 · 02/04/2017 16:16

What makes me feel confident every day is putting on my make-up. I spent a long time not wearing make-up as I couldn't be bothered but I have made a real effort recently and putting my make-up on makes me feel pretty which gives me more confidence.

Rachdayan · 02/04/2017 16:25

Good hair. Clean, fresh and styled, gives me loads of confidence.

Marg2k8 · 02/04/2017 16:39

I did not attend the event. My children are now grown up and I feel my confidence has increased with age. I no longer worry about the impression I make on others.

mo3733 · 02/04/2017 16:59

starting the day with a body scrub in the shower makes me feel invigorated and confident for the day ahead

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/04/2017 17:07

Non-attendee:

No 7 airbrush pore reducing primer is lovely, and makes me confident that my foundation might last a little longer. Also, knowing I'm prepared makes me feel confident - otherwise I flap!

pootler · 02/04/2017 17:13

I tend to focus too much on my failures and all the little mistakes I make. And the big ones. So I've got into the habit of reminding myself every day of something I did right. Could be anything. On good days it's doing a PB recently on a run, getting some great freelance work, making a great meal. Or on bad days, it's just getting everyone off to school on time and myself showered and dressed. Reminding myself of all the things I get right makes me feel so much more confident!

Clairejw605 · 02/04/2017 17:21

What makes me feel confident every day is my amazing husband who loves me just the way I am! Even when I'm feeling my most rotten he always tells me I look beautiful :)

sarah861421 · 02/04/2017 18:05

Non-attendee. I feel confident about myself and the day ahead, if I know what I am doing. ie. A list of chores / tasks which are achievable. No matter how complicated or petty, just knowing what I am doing makes me feel a little better.

julieef · 02/04/2017 19:04

I find it very difficult to go out by myself sometimes so my children and grandchildren give me the confidence to go out with them

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 02/04/2017 20:45

Being prepared makes me feel confident. Whether it's making sure DS has his school bag ready the night before, or ensuring that I have prepared for a work meeting. Knowing that I am ready as I can be helps me to face the day!

mave · 02/04/2017 21:04

Non-attendee
I feel confident when my skin looks and feels clear, blemish free and my makeup looks great!
