This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who went to the UNIQLO Kidswear launch event on Saturday. Many thanks for going along to the event with your families - we hope you enjoyed it!

Here's what Uniqlo say about the range: "This is the first time UNIQLO has introduced kids wear across the UK business, and sees the cult classics and innovative pieces within the adult collection re-designed (and re-sized) for new born to 12 year olds. This exciting collection will contain items from UNIQLO's key product categories that have been adjusted to fit a kid's lifestyle."

Below are a few feedback questions for you to answer - if you have any more comments, please feel free to add them to your response.

  • Overall, what did you and your family think of the UNIQLO Kidswear range? What did you like about it the most? Was there anything you didn't like?

  • Of everything you saw and/or tried on from the range, what was your favourite item? And what about your DP/DC?

  • Do you think you'd consider buying anything from the Kidswear range in future? If so, what and why? If not, why not?

  • If you've never bought anything from UNIQLO before, has attending this event changed your perception of the brand at all? If so, how?

  • Having attended this event, do you think you'd be more likely to buy UNIQLO clothes in future? If so, why? If not, why not?

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Uniqlo Kidswear range to family/friends? If so why? If not, why not?

Please also upload any photos of your day to this thread. Please note photos may be used by Uniqlo on Facebook, their website and possibly on other marketing material.

For those of you who didn?t attend the event, please take a look at the Uniqlo Kidswear range on their website and let us know what you think.

  • Are there any items that stand out to you? If so which ones and why? If not - what would you like to see included in the range?

  • Have you ever bought anything from Uniqlo for yourself or you DP/DC before? If so what do you usually buy?

  • Do you think you'd be likely to buy anything from the new Uniqlo Kidswear range at all? If so, what? If not why not?

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £100 Uniqlo voucher.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

I would like to add as a non tester...Items which stand out....the girls dresses, the ones with Skandi looking prints on them. They're lovely...I would like more girls t shirts with prints....and coats too...more of them. I have bought tops for myself in Uniqlo before. Love em! I am planning to buy girl's dresses from uniqlo....if I had a store here, I would definitely be in there...I like it a lot.

I liked the girls Helsinki dress, with the white and blue patern. I just thought it was sweet. I liked the babies body warm lite too, it looked really snug and I loved the colour. I liked lots of things on the sight, especially that there was a range of colours and material designs for most items.

  • Have you ever bought anything from Uniqlo for yourself or you DP/DC before? If so what do you usually buy?

No I haven't heard of it before.

  • Do you think you'd be likely to buy anything from the new Uniqlo Kidswear range at all? If so, what? If not why not?

Probably not as there is no store close to me to check out the quality before buying- as its not a brand I know. I like the style though :)

I'm a non-tester.

We were away when the event was on but looked at the clothes online once they were launched and made an order.

The toddler girls flower leggings and patterned tops stood out as being a bit different.

I have started buying Uniqlo clothes for myself this year and was impressed with the quality of their legging trousers. The designer collections are great value.

I bought the flower leggings and am very pleased with the thickness of the fabric. They are more like trousers and will be warm in autumn /winter. I also bought some jeans for my son, which again are good quality and in a blue /green colour are a bit different from other high street clothes I've seen.

Nothing outstanding really. Much prefer bright colours and patterns for children. Prices seem reasonable though

Have you ever bought anything from Uniqlo for yourself or you DP/DC before? If so what do you usually buy
No, not heard of before

Do you think you'd be likely to buy anything from the new Uniqlo Kidswear range at all? If so, what? If not why not?
No, as above, I prefer bright colours and patterns - the range seems quite dull to be honest

Website doesn't feel particularly intuitive to use either

I really like the look of the range. I like the fact it's all fairly unisex and brightly coloured rather than the hideous sea of pink and blue clothes you get in some shops.
I'm more excited than I probably should be about the heat tech for kids. I love heat tech and I'll definitely be getting a few tops for DD when the weather gets colder. It would be good to see some more bright colours.

I didn't go to the launch day but I've already ordered the grey fleece lined hoodie and I'm waiting for the navy. Fantastic quality. I'm a Uniqlo fan of the adult range so I had high expectations of the Kids stuff. Will try the jeans soon. I always recommend Women's Uniqlo to friends for the following reasons-Quality- particularly the cashmere and merino wool, you have to pay at least double to get the same standard elsewhere. Fit/consistency of sizing, this is a particular Uniqlo strength. Some retailers are all over the place with sizing which is really annoying when you buy online but Uniqlo are really good at this.I hope the Childrens line is the same.

Saw the range recently in the Kingston shop and really liked it. I bought a warm navy hoodie for DD to wear to school in the winter plus a cheerful yellow top and some leggings. The leggings are MASSIVE, incredibly wide in the legs even though they are the right length but she's wearing them as thin trousers. The top and hoodie fit well and are in her usual size. I will probably get her some Heat Tech, too.

There was a turquoise down jacket that I really liked but I rejected it as it didn't have a hood so useless for winter in the UK.

I would recommend the range (with a caveat about the leg width on leggings).

Particularly liked the fact that so many pieces were obviously unisex and there was a wonderful range of colours.

Looking on the website I am rather underwhelmed by it really. I found it a faff looking in each little separate section, I'd much rather click on baby/toddler/older child and see everything, and then maybe narrow it down with tick boxes if I was looking for something in particular. Viewing half a dozen items at a time was a bit of a faff.

Perhaps I would have been more impressed if I'd walked into a shop and seen it all in front of me.

I quite liked that the majority of the clothes were unisex, it made a refreshing change!

I have bought things for myself from uniqlo before, mainly scarves and other accessories and would buy from again if I saw something I liked.

It's a lovely range. I could only look at the infants range and am impressed. Lovely prints and lots of plain also so that we can mix and match.

I've shopped a lot in Uniqlo. Don't live close to a shop, but I've done a few online orders and have ended up keeping mostly everything in the past.

I like the basics and long vests and also some of the designer collections have had stuff that was a bit different, but still affordable.

I have found the ranges a bit hit and miss design wise. But, each to their own. There are lots of things to choose from and they change a lot so there is something for everyone.

I look at the website quite a lot so I will probably buy something.

  • We loved the store visit and the clothes. The puffa jackets had the biggest impact and I will be tempted to look at them again when it gets colder, not sure how warm they'll be in the depths of winter though. I was a bit disappointed at the small range or dark coloured boys trousers and couldn't find anything suitable for my 4yr old or 5yr old (who had recently chosen mint green trousers from H&M).

  • My favourite was the patchwork boys jumper and the t-shirts had great prints. My 4yr old loved the shirts, my 2yr old and 5yr old loved the hoodies with fluffy/shaggy lining (I wish they weren't plain though).

  • I'd definitely consider buying in future - jumpers, t-shirts, shorts, jackets, maybe trousers. The colours, prints and prices are perfect for us. I also tried on some womenswear and will be buying online in future.

  • I've never bought Uniqlo because there are no stores near us. The event hasn't changed my perception of the brand but I would go out of my way to choose clothes from Uniqlo now that we've had such a lovely day out in the store - the customer service was great.

  • I would recommend Uniqlo kidswear because it is good value for money, quality of the clothes seems to be good and they have fun prints/pictures and colours suitable for young kids, they're not just mini versions of menswear like you find in other stores.

DH took photos on his phone so I haven't figured out how to get them on here yet.

I like Uniqlo and have previously purchased much from there, especially from the (now discontinued) Uniqlo Undercover range for children. My most recent purchases arrived yesterday and I was generally very pleased with them. I buy most of my DD's clothes from Continental websites, mainly French/ Scandinavian and the Uniqlo range compares favourably with the kind of (mostly unisex) clothes we both prefer. The quality is good and the majority of the graphic stuff does not offend my anti-branding sensibilities! The prices are more high street, but the designs that little bit funkier. One piece I was slightly disappointed by were the furry trimmed denim shorts. almost 10-y-o DD is a little on the chunky side (ahem), so I sized up to age 11 to avail of the adjustable waist - everything else we bought was age 9-10 and fit perfectly, but the shorts, while sizeable about the bottom and legs, were pretty narrow on the waist.

Contrary to what some others have said, I have found it very refreshing to find 'plain' items of clothing - British kids' clothes tend to be far too overdesigned and unnecessarily embellished. Good quality and good colours are far more important and, combined with the good price, Uniqlo seem to be getting that. I also like the androgymous quality of the items - DD's favourite piece was the orange 'Play Loud' hoodie. I love the Heattech items - great lightweight layering for the inevitable cold days and the lightweight puffa jackets -but haven't yet decided which colour!

The website isn't great to use and there isn't many items. I like it when you can see the clothes on children like the next site.

Saying that there is some nice stuff, I liked the - Printed Crew Neck T Long Sleeve Animal, I won't be buying it because I don't know the label so is want so see it in store first.

I like that obviously unisex items (ie all the boys' clothes) are labelled as kids' instead of boys'. As a mother of boys, though, this does mean that the usual situation exists where the choice for them isn't that great, since girls' clothes still make up at least half the range. And, like so many places, it's obvious that DS1, who is a tall 9, will have to buy from the menswear range, in a few years.

I like the look of the coloured easy trousers. I think quite a few parents of children with SN will appreciate these. DS2 would be able to get them on and off himself. I probably wouldn't risk buying them until I knew how they fitted, despite the detailed size charts, though. They wouldn't be so useful if they were too baggy to stay up - despite still wearing a nappy, he has skinny hips and many trousers simply fall down on him, unless they have adjustable elastic.

Have heard of uniqlo but never been in one.

I thought the website was not the best lay out, took me a while to realise that items were available in more colours if you clicked on them. I liked the look of some fleece jackets in the website photos but couldn't find them on the site.

I like the look of the down body warmers and the roll neck tops, usually get roll necks for winter from h and m, so nice to have an alternative.

Don't like buying online when I don't have good idea of sizing, so would try to go in person. Have no idea wheremy nearest shop is though.

  • Are there any items that stand out to you? If so which ones and why?

Yes I like the stripey girls cardigan and tunic, I like strong graphics and colours in simple shapes so this appealed to me. I also liked the clothes that were bright colours generally without being frilly, fussy or covered in slogans and logos, this especially for boys. I really dislike most boys clothes as they are so over-slogan-ed (if that's a word).

what would you like to see included in the range?
More nice bold colours in the leggings would be nice.

  • Have you ever bought anything from Uniqlo for yourself or you DP/DC before?

Only once about 6 years ago i passed the shop in London and I bought a polo shirt for DP, he still wears it and it's one of his favourite tops. Weirdly I've never been back.

  • Do you think you'd be likely to buy anything from the new Uniqlo Kidswear range at all? Yes probably, I like the look of the down filled gilets, they look cute and practical.

I've had a look at the website just now and I haven't found it particularly pleasant to use, but it could just be that it's a mobile site (I've found a lot of mobile sites to be pretty poor really). I'd never heard of uniqlo before and was interested to see what was on offer.

I like the fact that I didn't see any "characters" e.g. from tv, film or games. Also there seemed to be a pleasing lack of garish patterns, no ridiculous slogans, and not a skull in sight (I really don't like the way a lot of boys' clothes make out that little boys are trouble etc). Love the colours available. It all seems a little expensive, but if I was feeling flush I'd definitely have another look with a view to buying something.

I agree with other posters that the sizing isn't particularly useful as a two year range for a little one just isn't feasible.

I didn't find the website as straightforward as others. I took a little getting used to. I liked the lack of slogans, and the printed long sleeve tops, but I thought the colours were a little gender specific.

Prices seamed reasonable presuming the quality matches up.

I often buy adult/childrens clothes if there are free returns. That way I can look through variety of items and know that I can send back items I dislike. This generally means I order more items. It is rare that I don't keep anything.

I don't know Uniqlo and have never bought anything from them before.

The baby pjs have lovely prints and I like the heat tech range for DC1. I would definitely pop into one of the stores if I'm passing (the comments on sizing have put me off ordering on-line).

I quite liked the leggings but thought they were a little pricey. As other posters have mentioned, the sizes were not that easy to figure out.

didn't attend but had a look at Uniqlo kids range.

Initial thoughts looks bright and eye catching so would appeal to kids.

As a parent I like the idea of name labels sewn in and hooks for hanging. It is amazing how many kids clothese don't have labels big enough to write the names on - so that is definitely a handy feature.

I can't comment on sizing as haven't tried out the range yet - but I remember with the womens clothes I used to buy (before our nearest uniqlo closed down sadly), the trousers did come up long. I think the idea was to adjust them to the right length yourself but I found that a pain so hopefully the sizes will be accurate for kids.

I like the idea of the poly down making the coats etc lighter as my kids always whinge and moan if they have to carry their coats because they feel heavy.

Non-tester here.

The items which stand out are the practical parkas and bodywarmers- nice design and colours. I like the fact the clothes don't have awful slogans or images and are simple, classic patterns.

However the range is quite small and a lot of the items look a little dreary colour wise, notably the kids leggings.

I have once bought from Uniqlo overseas, but just plain polos. I didn't know they were available in the UK to be honest. I do buy online for the kids, but not for myself as I have difficulty getting the right fit.

I would consider buying from Uniqlo, probably outerwear as I think there is more of a range for everyday staples in high street stores.

Maybe but you have few shops in the UK and I need to try on clothes on my daughter first. I would consider online if I saw something I loved though.

Non tester - I particularly liked the girls striped long sleeve tunic and the striped crew neck cardigan. The clothes reminded me of Gap.

I haven't ever purchased anything from Uniqlo for myself or DD.

Definitely would consider buying something from the range - everything looks good quality and reasonably priced.
