From those sleepy newborn cuddles to their first giggle, roll, or wobbly steps, the first year is full of moments we never want to forget.

Mums are often the ones behind the camera, quietly capturing all those little milestones and everyday memories. But those photos tell such a beautiful story of your baby’s first year.

What moments did you make sure to capture? Was it their first smile, messy first taste of food, bath time giggles, or something simple like a peaceful nap on your chest?

Share the moments that mean the most to you, we’d love to hear the memories behind the photos

For me - the progression from the young baby stage to starting to become moblile and rolling - you know they are going to hopefully reach their milestones and start to know their own minds and their bodies are becoming stronger - then then they become mobile and your home environment changes forever.

The smiles. Lots of smiles when I read to them or tickled them. I remember it like it was yesterday.

First time they experienced the snow! Kids love snow and the wonder on their faces is such a joy to witness.

Another favourite is taking them to the zoo for the first time and taking them to feed the ducks another time. Honestly, their innocence at that young age, you wish it stays with them forever and that they never lose that part of themselves even as they grow.

First time giggling uncontrollably. Babies giggling is one of the best things to witness; one of those things that lights up the whole place and puts a smile on everyone's faces.

Honestly, one of the moments I’m so glad I snapped was my baby’s first taste of food. I was knackered, they were grumpy, and I just shoved the camera nearby without thinking. The spoon went in, they pulled the funniest little face, and then somehow managed to get purée everywhere except their mouth. It was messy, chaotic, and I definitely didn’t clean the highchair properly afterwards… but it’s one of my favourite photos.
It wasn’t fancy or posed — just a real, honest moment in the middle of a long day. And every time I look at it, I remember that tiny mix of curiosity and “what on earth is this?” on their face. Those little, imperfect moments are the ones I treasure most

My favourite ever baby photo is of DS1 when he was a few weeks old. He was at my mums house and she had just bathed him and got him ready for bed. My stepbrother, who was 11, was also there and had had a bath and got ready for bed.

The photo is of the 2 of them, with my stepbrother ever so gently touching DS' head. He'd never really spent time with such a tiny baby before, and wasn't very good at being still and gentle. But the sense of love and wonder you get from the photo is astounding.

I’ll never forget snapping photos of their tiny hands holding mine, it makes you remember just how tiny they were and holding them in your arms as a newborn with their fingers wrapped around mine - just so precious .

JacCharlton · 24/03/2026 08:53

Their firsts birthday, by then my exhaustion had lifted, they were smiley interactive and very happy, and these moments for me were a lovely memory. 🎂

saffysabir · 24/03/2026 22:10

Ha, the first time they cried in the car seat as it looked like they were having a tantrum with their hands in the air, even though they were newborn.

Their first growth spurt which meant that half of their bodysuits could no longer be worn. Imagine a bodysuit on and we're trying to pull and thinking, hang on, why is this no longer buttoning up?

Honestly, countless.

So many moments captured, my camera roll is full of them! Of course I photographed all the key moments like coming home from hospital, first try of solid food (and the resulting mess!), first birthday…. But it’s the ad hoc photos I love the most- random sleeping, smiling and playing as they bring back such lovely memories.

A really happy moment of my son aged But 8 months just sitting giggling in the garden under a blossom tree

And those very first photos in the hospital

My son holding his little sister for the first time

Their first time feeding the ducks with their dad is a moment I made sure to capture as it was just so adorable. The kids love animals but at the same time sometimes run away as they get scared but still want a kitten haha.

That's just one of them. Their first giggle, their first time doing tricks on their scooter.

alshareif · 26/03/2026 23:41

First car ride when we took DS from the hospital and he started crying. Had to take a picture, not in a mean way but it was just so cute.

ladyluck13 · 27/03/2026 18:45

My favourite is the one I used as her announcement photo. A few hours old in her baggy rainbow onesie (shes a few weeks early rainbow baby) and she just looks so peaceful. I can remember looking at her in awe and amazement that I had produced something so wonderful.

To be fair it was my father who took all the pictures of my sister & I from newborn to teenager.
We both said how happy we are that our childhood was so lovingly captured by him. I'm not sure our mother ever took a single picture.
Both were great parents, but I guess the advent of smartphones has made it easier to just take a picture at any time.
Our favourite was before our aunt's wedding when we were both dressed in for the time quite fashionable clothing and I don't think either of us has ever had such well styled and cut hair since😂

Fluperson · 27/03/2026 23:45

My daughter was wearing my old trousers and top set at 11 months old. She stood up at the sofa, turned and just ran across the room! Her firat steps were running not walking 🤣

elliejjtiny · 29/03/2026 23:09

Ds1 "playing the piano" for the first time. He was sat on dh's lap aged 4 months and he just banged his hands on the keys and looked so shocked it made a noise. He's a professional musician now.

The photos of me holding the dc as newborns.

I particularly like the one of me holding ds5 for the first time. We both had sepsis, he was covered in tubes, my hair was a mess and my skin was yellow but I looked so happy.

Dizzywizz · 01/04/2026 10:09

First time he climbed into a box 😂 he looked so pleased with himself. As a baby/toddler he was like a cat, any empty box was an opportunity!!

Backatasda · 02/04/2026 08:51

The moment I made sure to capture most was by baby’s first smile — the one when they looked at me as a mum, not just a source of food 😅 That tiny grin felt like pure magic and still makes my heart warm when I look at it.

Kentishbirdlife · 02/04/2026 19:12

My dad with my daughters. He passed this year, I’m so grateful my daughters met him. I’m hoping the photos will keep his memory alive for them, I don’t want them to forget him.

iceberg52 · 02/04/2026 20:06

The photo of my youngest and last child taken in the hospital ward, looking at him and cuddling him, knowing he'd be my last baby🥹 He's now 20.

First steps and first proper belly laugh! We have a cracking video of the latter which always makes me smile 😊

Nurseybear1 · 02/04/2026 22:41

I think his first steps, the little video we made where he toddles across the floor and falls into my arms giggling. Just such a beautiful moment

My son was born with a cleft lip & palate,so for me it was his 'big smile' then when he had his first surgery, at 13 weeks old,I got to meet my boy all over again! I can't describe the feelings I had, it really was truly wonderful!! I got got to witness 2 first smiles! ❤️❤️
