CeriMumsnet · 14/11/2023 10:27

It’s November and we are in peak shopping and deals period of the year. Shopping online can be a great way to save money and find exclusive deals that aren’t available on the high street, but what tips can you share that help you get even better deals online? Perhaps you subscribe to price-drop emails, utilise coupon websites or maybe you have a trusted price comparison tool. Whatever your tips are, please share with us below.

  • Post your tips/hacks in the thread below to be entered into a prize draw
  • One lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).
Here’s what Klarna has to say: "It can be expensive buying products online, the prices can vary greatly from one merchant to another. The endless options and deals can be overwhelming and time-consuming to sort through. That's why we've introduced our new search and compare tool, designed to simplify your shopping experience. With this tool, you can spend less time searching and more time saving money - whether you're shopping for electronics, home appliances, fashion or everyday essentials, we've got you covered. Our search and compare tool not only helps you find great deals, but it also shows you how prices have fluctuated over time. This allows you to make an informed decision on whether it's the right time to make your purchase. Shop smarter with the Klarna app and get great value for the money and time you spend."

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

I am looking for a new cooker - so this thread has just come at the right time, I have to say using price comparison sites helped, but there was not much difference between the price of the model I wanted - but price runner was the best site I found after looking at a few - but would not trust Ebay private sellers due to the guarantee

Kelkoo - I am after a Switch for Christmas - and it's helped a lot https://www.kelkoo.co.uk/c/entertainment/gaming/gaming-consoles-112101/

I use Pricerunner to track items I've my eye on. Also skim through promotional email subject lines before deleting them from my email account.

Smiley444 · 27/11/2023 21:41

Sign up to camelcamelcamel to track Amazon's product prices to get an idea of expected prices and trends. Also, try the brand new filter on Vinted for some great bargains!

Montydoo · 28/11/2023 10:40

I have used Pricerunner and found it really helpful to compare, also subscribe to Argos emails and they often have short term deals on household items

lillypopdaisyduke · 28/11/2023 18:14

Using google shopping, and checking on Kelkoo for reviews and further comparison

itsywitsy · 29/11/2023 14:30

Check your Christmas emails from Argos/Asda/Tesco for their on-line toy deals and festive shopping - often there are discount codes when shopping on-line

nobabiesyet · 29/11/2023 14:33

I do a quick google and look at reputable stores - I avoid random reselling groups like Facebook. I also make sure I use a private browser in case they are using flexible pricing which will increase if they see I have been checking a lot

HobNobAddict · 02/12/2023 15:34

I use google and check my emails for any extra discounts - and buy via TopCashBack

Beach11 · 02/12/2023 21:44

Read the reviews first from several sources and then compare prices etc.
Cheapest price, doesn't always mean best place to buy from.
Look out for hidden costs such are return postage fees

mindtheGAAP · 03/12/2023 21:37

I use google shopping to compare prices. I also lookout for promo codes and special events where possible - sometimes Black Friday isn't the best deal!

jacqui5366 · 04/12/2023 12:05

Use a referral site such as JamDoughnut or Top Cashback for an extra discount

SnowyMouse · 05/12/2023 18:29

I look at lots of different websites.

InterSteller · 05/12/2023 21:02

I check google shopping and also 2nd hand sites line eBay and Vinted

littlecottonbud · 06/12/2023 13:39

I use Pricerunner, Kelkoo and google - then buy via topcashback when I can for an extra % off

ohdannyboy · 08/12/2023 11:04

My tip would be don't wait for Black Friday - it's a myth you get discounts all year round - when you want to buy something do your research, read verified user reviews, then do your comparisons.

Helensam23 · 08/12/2023 21:37

I tend to use Google shopping but that I have a clearpay and klarna account I sometimes look on there if I am short of money that month to spread the cost

Laney79 · 08/12/2023 21:50

I always google items I want to try and find the cheapest price then once I have it down to a couple of retailers I’ll look for money off voucher codes or look at wether any loyalty schemes or points can be used too-things like nectar or Clubcard points. If you can manage to stack in this way you can get things much cheaper than the rrp-and often if you do use a loyalty scheme you’ll even get points/voucher for buying! Just need to be savvy and spend time researching. Ooh and if buying online, add the item to your basket but don’t checkout and leave it a few hours. Sometimes retailers will send you discount codes to encourage you to buy!!

VegeBurgers · 08/12/2023 21:53

I Google search wherever item it is and the word ‘mumsnet’ then I get reviews and usually someone links to the best place to buy it.

SuspiciousSue · 09/12/2023 20:16

I use Price Runner or the Martin Lewis website.

IDontHateRainbows · 10/12/2023 23:14

If there is expensive delivery below a certain price but free returns 'll add something to take to take it over the threshold and then send back what I don't want.
I saved a tenner doing this the other day by making my basket up.

Also with clothing or shoes unless I'm really sure of the sizing I'll order a larger and smaller size together to see which fits best.

LittleDeeAndME · 11/12/2023 11:01

Use Kelkoo and google, read reviews and check emails for discount vouchers

JacCharlton · 12/12/2023 09:57

I would use the price comparison websites, AND don't always buy the cheapest - look at verified purchase reviews - Amazon would be a good one - cheapest is not always best .

Christmastreesparkles · 12/12/2023 10:12

Wait a few days before buying, to work out if I really want/need it rather than just a whim.

Then research options, and look at reviews that weren't 5 stars to see downsides of products

Yvonne822 · 12/12/2023 10:29

I sometimes like to leave things in my basket - then the brand will email me with a discount!
