This activity is now closed

It’s that time of the year when Hyde Park transforms into an enchanting wonderland that leaves us all feeling a little more festive. Whether you’ve tackled the ice rink, savoured the delicious street food, or stumbled on a hidden gem at the Christmas market, we’d love to hear your favourite memories.

  • Share your Winter Wonderland memories on the thread to be entered into the prize draw
  • One lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).
Here’s what Winter Wonderland has to say: For 16 years, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland has been spreading the festive spirit for Londoners and tourists alike. With humble beginnings as an open-air Christmas market in Hyde Park, Winter Wonderland has since grown into an extravaganza with ice skating, live performances, roller coaster rides, street food stalls, festive bars and live music.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Drinking mulled wine and just walking round - DS was in a pram then so doesn't remember. The lights sounds and smells are just 'Christmas' (way to expensive for us to go back sadly)

I've been three times and in the early 2010s when DD was small. It's extremely expensive. I don't bother these days.

My favourite memories are the tiny lights covering the trees - looking like Narnia

NumberTheory · 28/11/2023 18:44

My memories of it are mainly of shock at the prices (and I lived in London so was pretty used to things being expensive). For a family of 4 it cost hundreds to go for a few hours unless all you were doing was wandering around staring at the lights (which were nice, tbf).

My daughter and boyfriend took me for a genuinely magical day shortly after I separated from my husband. We had a fab time ice-skating, sampling a variety of hot foods and cold drinks! We walked through the ice sculptures. I faced my fears and went on the most bonkers fairground ride…The Hangover - it was a crazy high drop ride! I could barely walk when I got off, but had a couple of stiff drinks in the alpine style bar and warmed up by the fire pits- I’ll never forget it! :))))))

Beautiful lights💡 and mulled wine 🍷

The food 😬

Taking our DS last year, and spend the whole time walking around, getting things to eat and drink from the stalls, our favourite memory has to be the bratwurst

tearsandtiaras · 29/11/2023 14:37

Loved the tube snow ride and ice sculptures

Crappykitchen · 29/11/2023 15:38

It's just an overpriced fun fair, over crowded and shit

Derbyderby · 29/11/2023 16:49

Visited with our daughters a few years ago. The ice sculptures were amazing although I slightly misjudged how fast you can slide on ice and made a complete show of myself accompanying my daughter on the ice slide. I screamed, then laughed loudly while my dress flew up!! Good job I had woolly tights on!!! My family were mortified!

It has been a few years since we have been up to London for Christmas. I love the festive feel, festive lights and the gorgeous aroma and smell of Christmas stalls. Taking the children ice skating is fantastic. Spending all my time on the ice and falling over is a memory that my children will always remember!!!

Stomacharmeleon · 29/11/2023 17:54

We came years ago but thoroughly enjoyed it. There was something for all my brood and Everyone loved the ice sculptures.
It was a magical, Icy day which transformed the park into a winter wonderland beyond the fair.
Glistening trees and matching glistening lights casting shadows as we went.
Rides, grub galore and an exhausting afternoon. We never all normally agree but it was fantastic.
Leaving as London exploded into Christmas colour.
Magical.

Very clear memory because I'd only recently joined Mumsnet and was really shocked by how many people had all their presents wrapped, cooking done, house clean prior to Christmas Eve so they could have a family day out. I vowed not to leave everything to the last minute, and for the first time ever got everything ready and took DC to Winter Wonderland on Christmas Eve.

It was beautiful - my favourites were the ice sculptures and ice slide, and the crazy circus. We also went on the ferris wheel and bought food and last minute stocking fillers at the market. I felt like I had achieved some sort of perfect mother status.

The following year I asked DC if they'd like to do it again. 'Nah, not really,' they said, 'we like spending Christmas Eve in our PJs watching Home Alone and Harry Potter and eating chocolate like we always do.'

So we've only ever been once, but it was memorable as my one attempt at perfect Christmas. And it was lovely - expensive, but very pretty.

Just how high and fast the rides went ! The star flier for sure was the best !

jacqui5366 · 04/12/2023 12:06

The churros - eating them whilst walking around seeing the lights/sounds/rides
