It’s that time of the year when Hyde Park transforms into an enchanting wonderland that leaves us all feeling a little more festive. Whether you’ve tackled the ice rink, savoured the delicious street food, or stumbled on a hidden gem at the Christmas market, we’d love to hear your favourite memories.

  • Share your Winter Wonderland memories on the thread to be entered into the prize draw
  • One lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).
Here’s what Winter Wonderland has to say: For 16 years, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland has been spreading the festive spirit for Londoners and tourists alike. With humble beginnings as an open-air Christmas market in Hyde Park, Winter Wonderland has since grown into an extravaganza with ice skating, live performances, roller coaster rides, street food stalls, festive bars and live music.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Went there on my first weekend away with my now husband. We have been together 9 years and married almost 4. Ironically the date we visited is the same as the date we married. A special trip!

The magic of walking through a dark, cold park and in the distance seeing a glow which got bigger and bigger. Then the noise of people whizzing around the ice rink, the squeals of children, smell of mulled wine and bright lights of the stalls. The lit up Christmas trees, wreaths and Christmassy feel was like a warm cuddle.

One of the least festive festive happenings I've ever been to. Muddy, miserable and everything was vastly overpriced. It was about 15 years ago when we went though, I imagine it's improved a lot with each year or nobody would still be going.

Oblomov23 · 19/11/2023 18:25

Awful. Was so looking forward to it, but when got there, a few ice features, in a muddy field, like a grubby over priced travelling fayre, being served by dirty grubby moody travellers, on overpriced rides. No ice skating rink was there when we went. Practically nothing to do so left and took the long train home. Ds's unimpressed. Was gutted.

Went last year - loved the atmosphere, the stalls, the lights and the music.

jacqui5366 · 20/11/2023 15:00

the German beers 😉 , bratwurst 😋and the carol singers 🤗. There’s also some market stalls to look through and an ice rink if your feeling adventurous. BUT take a lot of money it's very expensive. 😳

Taking £300 - and having no money left after an hour and a half

Yes - expensive isn't it - £7 for a ride is just 😱 and £8 for mulled wine

JacCharlton · 21/11/2023 10:15

My memory would be the lights, sounds and smells of the place - if Christmas had a smell - it would be this !

ohdannyboy · 22/11/2023 08:28

I cannot really justify the expense any more, we've been just the once and loved the choir 🗣 and the lights in the trees - felt like going to Narnia (according to DS)

Summergarden · 22/11/2023 09:13

The festive atmosphere and cup of mulled wine from one of the cute wooden hut stalls.

chickenpotnoodle · 22/11/2023 13:55

The fairground rides - expensive but if you want a memorable time ......👫

Theimpossiblegirl · 22/11/2023 20:35

I haven't been for a few years but took my girls when they were little. It was lovely to wander around and soak up the festive atmosphere.

ChronicallyCarryingOn · 22/11/2023 22:38

I loved the magical setting, walking around and exploring, getting excited for Christmas. Really looking forward to experiencing it again with my growing family

WrongSwanson · 22/11/2023 22:46

The Churros yum !

buckley1983 · 23/11/2023 23:07

Been once & would LOVE to go again now my son is older as I don't think he remembers much! It felt really fun & festive in the day time, but the magic really began when night fell & the lights were twinkling - beautiful!

TrustPenguins · 23/11/2023 23:09

Ice skating is a Christmas tradition here!

littlecottonbud · 25/11/2023 13:40

The thrilling rides ! amazing - and how much money we spent - but the kids still talk about it - so I gues worth it

MarathonBarbie · 26/11/2023 07:00

I was in my mid twenties and had had a rotten year health wise. Glandular fever which stuck around for months, stopped me doing a couple of long trained for sporty events, it hung around for months and aggregates some other health conditions, essentially I stayed home miserable for about three months.
When I was on the mend a friend surprised me with Winter Winderland tickets and it was amazing. Got there and found her and my mum had got their heads together and booked us in for things like the big wheel and to see the ice sculptures. I remember walking around in our sparkly Santa hats (another surprise) eating candy floss and drinking mulled wine and just having the best time. It was exactly what I needed at the time.

pushchairprincess · 26/11/2023 11:05

I would have to say, thinking again, the memory watching the Aeronaut Starflyer but not having the guts/balls/confidence to go on it - then watching my family fo on it, watching in pure terror 😱 then the exhilaration on their faces - 'can we do it again ?' 😩

jacqui5366 · 27/11/2023 13:25

The fairground - the rides are sooo big, fast and a sight to behold - you can see the whole of London from the star flyer

Smiley444 · 27/11/2023 21:45

The Christmas market and the smell of the food there... so festive! I may also have tried to skate and failed to look graceful! I did however, manage to slide around a little bit and pick up my headband which slid off, without falling over!
