You can buy airers that hook on to the backs of doors and open downwards in a kind of concertina fashion. They are removable, so you can pack them away too. They are really handy for space-saving!

ButterOllocks · 08/10/2023 08:19

I have plenty of towels in the bathroom, so don't have to wash as often, only when I have a full load - I use eco eggs for these. A day for bedding, on a rota, these go on my heated airer in the dining room. The school inform is done on Saturday - we have 3 sets of non iron. The rest is colours one wash and cottons on another wash. I tumble dry when I need things quickly, otherwise it's on the heated airer.

Slaterz · 08/10/2023 10:22

What about those of us who don't have a laundry room?

RabbitsRock · 08/10/2023 16:31

I’m not sure I really have any hacks. I don’t use separate fabric conditioner or anything in my tumbledryer. If I win, I’m going to put the voucher towards a posh new linen basket as ours has collapsed!

Laundarylazy · 08/10/2023 18:16

Here is what i do, i dot like to do laundry so i have a decision website where is just put my question and it gives me a random answer, isn't it hilarious? 😂

@ShowOfHands

That is the truest and also funniest (in a hollow laugh sort of way) thing I’ve read on here.

You deserve the voucher.

Enlist kids early to help with laundry so they know it's everyone's responsibility. My youngest loves loading the washing machine and my older dc are great at sorting laundry because they've always done it

Theimpossiblegirl · 08/10/2023 18:58

Buy a washer with the biggest drum you can find. Being able to get so much in is a game changer.

Sleepybumble · 08/10/2023 19:54

Put a wash on last thing at night, we do this every night to keep on top of the washing and drying. Our machine has a half load function which really helps.

froggybiby · 08/10/2023 20:32

My top tip is to put the duvet cover inside pillow cases when putting them away. We have special pegs that go in the washing machine to wash socks together.

RaisinsOfMildAnnoyance · 08/10/2023 21:35

We store tupperware on a shelf in the utility, which is right off the kitchen. A lid stacker has revolutionised the jumble of containers massively! We also use various shelving and storage units from IKEA to maximise wall and floor space, as it's a tiny room.

Itsgottobeme · 09/10/2023 06:18

you dont need all the products instagram is telling you you need. you dont need every scent or product mrs hinch is pushing. you also dont need to wash your sheets or items as much as sm tells you too. you are not a bad parent if you dont "love to do laundry!"
can the children help. try not to make it something they too hate or are forced to do. this leads to push back whatever it might be!
some things just dont need doing seperately. there are they few items that cant be done in a mixed load. the only thing we ever think about is sheets, shirts, towels etc.
try to create a routine. so it doenst become somethng you HAVE to do,put off or dread. so its like brushing your teeth.its just something you do. if you can put a wash on before bed. then part of the morning is pegging it out or taking it out etc. try to fold when it first comes in,less hassle later for that little bit of effort.
have a seperate place for clothes. or make it a rule school clothes needs to be given or dumped outsdie the machine.
your jjob isnt always to do the washing. if there are others in the house and its fair then get help.

I bought a creel, just add your damp clothes, and hoist up to the ceiling - best space saving device ever.

love this !! how have I never seen one before ?

littlecottonbud · 09/10/2023 10:56

My hack is to use dryer balls when tumble drying - clothes are less creased and they seem to dry 1/3 of the time quicker. My only other space saving option open to me is a combined washer dryer as I don't have the space for 2 separate washer/dryers/

LittleDeeAndME · 09/10/2023 12:48

I prefer boxes of detergent for my cupboards - better to store than bottles, (wish they would make conditioner pods- or do they ??) I use the drying sheets to fragrance my bedding and towels. Other than that - have a rota for washing bedding etc

79lauren79 · 09/10/2023 13:36

Don't iron as a rule. If I do think it needs it, I then do just before wearing so only do once and it's fresh. I also scrunch clothes before I buy and if it crumples too much it doesn't get bought!

JacCharlton · 09/10/2023 16:20

A heated airer which I keep in my dining room, I rarely use my tumble dryer because of the cost.

chickenpotnoodle · 09/10/2023 16:38

I lights and coloured linen basket at the top of the stairs, and a routine for washing - towels, bedding, uniform, work wear and the dark colours - dry on the line if possible - smells better and costs nowt ! (from Yorkshire) - use a dehumidifier when drying indoors

Louw82 · 09/10/2023 17:55

A laundry basket upstairs and one downstairs, definitely stops the wet towels and dirty socks on the bedrooms floors!

Billappa · 09/10/2023 20:59

Dehumidifier !

Beabeautiful · 10/10/2023 07:51

My tips - line dry when you can - the smell of line dried clothes 👩‍❤️‍👨 - however we are in the uk - so for space saving - invest in a washer dryer - though If i had my time again - I would buy the stacking ones - would cut my laundry times in half.

madeinmanc · 10/10/2023 08:07

I've got several laundry bins all labelled with the contents (darks, whites, pastels, handwash/delicates, bedding and towels, sportswear), so that I can grab the load quickly.

custardcream1000 · 10/10/2023 21:45

Like another poster, I fold clothes as soon as they are dry so they don't need to be ironed.

I fold clothes in order of which wardrobe/drawer/shelf they will go on - so all trousers folded first, then jumpers etc. I find it saves time when I'm putting clothes away as I'm not having to go back and forth.

My stylish laundry space is the stairs. The folded clothes are 'stored' on the stairs and then I carry one pile up each time I go upstairs. Another time saver and it makes it feel like less of a chore.

ohdannyboy · 11/10/2023 14:25

Try an eco egg, they do a conditioning ball also, no need for bottles and boxes of detergent.
