I haven't used shampoo on my hair for about 8 years, just conditioner massaged well into scalp (can mix in a bit of sugar for a deeper exfoliation) and rinsed followed by a second application of conditioner combed through and rinsed. As long as not using any products containing silicones (dimethicone is a common one) then I don't need shampoo to get my hair clean. My hair has looked and felt much healthier since ditching the shampoo and silicones. I also try to eat well - oily fish, nuts, seeds, avocados etc - healthy fats/oils are all said to be good for hair.

I have curly hair. I only brush it when it's wet (never dry!). I try to limit use of heat too.

happypoobum · 05/05/2023 17:15

Another curly haired one here, agree with PP on only brushing it when wet.

I use the Garnier banana conditioner in the big tubs. Love the smell, it lasts ages, and leaves my hair really silky and soft.

Alloveragain3 · 05/05/2023 17:20

Not brushing my hair after it's dried

hopezibah1 · 05/05/2023 21:16

My mum used to use coconut oil for EVERYTHING - skincare, hair care - everything! And it seemed to serve her well. Don't wash hair daily as it dries it out. And if you have a special occassion like a wedding coming up - don't wash hair that day - wash it the day before so it will style easier and be less "slippery" for hair pins and grips etc.

MotherofPiggies · 06/05/2023 10:38

I’ve stopped dyeing my hair and it’s never been in better condition. I also let it dry naturally whenever possible and visit the hairdresser for regular cuts.

Fillyfrog · 06/05/2023 18:47

Scalp massage defo 😊

Talapia · 06/05/2023 23:30

Eat well and drink plenty of water.

Avoid overwashing. I wash my hair twice a week

Find the shampoo which is right for you. In my house we all have a different shampoo and conditioner to suit our hair.

Switch shampoo and conditioner so I'm not always using the same products.I find my hair gets used to certain products and then they don't seem to work so well.

Was hair in warm water.

Run some detangling milk through damp hair.

Always use a heat product if blow drying or using straighteners.

Stormydanielss · 07/05/2023 00:01

I always do a final rinse with cold water, makes my hair shiny

DustyLee123 · 07/05/2023 08:39

Silk pillow case is a must for curly hair, and peri menopause hot heads.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/05/2023 08:42

I stopped using hair dye in lockdown and my hair and scalp are so much better for it.

GHD hairdryer- really fast and makes my hair smoother with no effort.

Sixgeese · 07/05/2023 21:43

Avoid heat, wash hair twice a week and use the appropriate shampoo for your hair type. The bedhead brand is great but one of my daughters seem to use half a bottle each time they wash their hair.

Jenn3112 · 08/05/2023 22:09

I agree with final rinse with cooler water and not using harsh dye on hair, anything with bleach is really damaging.

ButterOllocks · 10/05/2023 16:14

A wee blob of conditioner after you've rinsed rubbed into your hair - and leave to dry with your hair in a towel turbin

DinkyDaffodil · 11/05/2023 10:24

A little argan oil on the palms of your hands, rubbed in to your hair - makes it feel and look so much more healthy

nobabiesyet · 12/05/2023 12:36

Make the last couple of rinses cold water. Also I have a silk pilliow case - stops tangles.

burwellmum · 13/05/2023 11:38

Don't wash too often. Don't use very hot water.

DasAlteLeid · 13/05/2023 16:56

Change your shampoo every couple of washes to avoid the residue build-up from using the same product over and over again. A touch of olive oil rubbed between your palms first makes a good alternative to serum or hair oil if you’ve run out!

humblemeep · 17/05/2023 13:35

I only wash my hair once or twice a week, use sls shampoo and conditioner without silicone, I add a couple of drops of pure argan oil to the curl treatment from cantu that I use, I never use a hair dryer or straighteners, just let it air dry.

CheshireCat1 · 18/05/2023 11:24

I have very dry skin and hair. When I put hand cream on I run my hands through my hair with the excess that hasn’t soaked in, it really tames my hair and helps with the condition between shampoos.

Montydoo · 25/05/2023 09:46

A scalp massage, and exfoliate and in summer keep protected (I apply a small amount of suncream with a SPF of 30 to my hair and scalp)

hannahbjm · 25/05/2023 16:30

I always rinse my hair in cold water, it seems to make it shinier somehow

pushchairprincess · 26/05/2023 07:57

Choose the shampoo best suited for YOUR hair type - I used to use a 'family' shampoo - now buy one for fine hair and the difference is so good (same applies to conditioner)

Congratulations to @HobNobAddict - the winner of the prize draw!
