Use cold water for final rinse and avoid hairdryers and straighteners. Eat a balanced diet with particular focus on iron and protein rich food

Following. Any hair tips that are also good for the environment? Looking to cut down on plastics.

I wonder if the banana thing works I saw on a thread yesterday. I might try it.

Scrunchies instead of elastic hair ties have helped breakages in my hair

Share the cost of a bottle of a good shampoo and conditioner with a friend - I do this and just refill a bottle when we have come to the end - it lasts longer than you think - and you are cutting your costs in half

Is this for real? 🤣

aibutohavethisusername · 25/04/2023 20:28

I always use an anti chlorine shampoo after I swim.

buckley1983 · 25/04/2023 23:30

My hair is so prone to tangling - best tip I ever had was to use a little bit of conditioner on wet hair (after the usual wash & condition) & run it through the ends with your fingers - then use a wide tooth comb to comb through. It works a treat on my hair & it is now knot-free - hurrah!

littleblackcat27 · 26/04/2023 05:53

I use Henna to colour my hair - so much more gentle on the scalp than traditional hair dye - which would make my head burn!

voyager50 · 26/04/2023 07:09

I don't use branded shampoos and conditioners - I get dandruff and use 'Hair & Scalp" form Savers, it's about £3 cheaper a bottle than "Head & Shoulders" and works just as well.

Sleepybumble · 26/04/2023 07:34

I have super fine hair. I always water down my conditioner, get more for my money and use less plastic as done have to buy a new one so often

ohdannyboy · 26/04/2023 08:01

coconut oil in a spray bottle - spray over your hair and leave for a couple of hours - leaves it feeling and smelling lovely - and improves condition so much

Letsrunabath · 26/04/2023 08:30

Deep conditioning treatment once a week, don’t wash your hair everyday, it’s not needed unless you work down a coal mine.

pushchairprincess · 26/04/2023 11:31

was given to my by a hairdresser for my damaged hair - a hair mask made of half an avocado, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of honey and 3 drops tea tree oil - left on as long as possible then wash and leave to dry naturally. It's a little messy but seems to help with my very dry hair - it's not as frizzy between washes.

Acheybreakyhead · 26/04/2023 12:05

I don't do anything more involved than a daily wash and condition making sure all product is thoroughly washed out my hair.

I get a lot of compliments about my hair and all my secret is is bog standard shampoo and conditioner used every day

shumway · 26/04/2023 12:19

Leave hair to dry before combing.

MumC2141 · 26/04/2023 12:36

Just wash with shampoo and conditioner every couple of days. Nothing special.

daisydaisy21 · 26/04/2023 12:51

Use a shampoo that's meant for your hair type. I get very oily hair after a day or so of washing but using a clarifying shampoo has helped massively.

Regular trims are also great. YouTube them and do it yourself to save money!

JulesJules · 26/04/2023 12:59

Another vote for Boots Curl Creme, (the pink stuff) it's great and cheap as chips.

My other tips would be:

Always use a sun protection spray on hair/scalp in the sun and wear a hat if possible.

Smooth hair with your hands after you've had handcream on.

A tiny bit of oil (eg Nuxe which smells gorgeous) smoothed on your hair makes it super shiny.

givemecoffeenow · 26/04/2023 17:41

I have curly hair. I find the biggest game changer for me is sleeping with a silk bonnet on. Stops my hair tangling and stops hair from loosing moisture and becoming frizzy overnight. It’s made a huge difference for me.

I also use a gentle microfibre towel, and silk hair ties to prevent breakage. I use products that are sulphate and silicone free only and I only wash it once a week. The night before I wash it I use a bit of caster oil and a couple of drops of essential oil to give myself a scalp massage ( caster oil promotes hair growth).

If my roots start to get a bit oily I use powdered cornstarch (or arrowroot) and a powder make up brush to apply to were it’s needed instead of dry shampoo.

I love natural products rather than putting unnecessary chemicals on myself and I like to be conscious of reducing plastic use and being environmentally friendly.

Coffeefortwo · 27/04/2023 07:25

I swim 4-5 times a week so my fine hair is prone to drying out. I make sure I thoroughly wet my hair in the shower before swimming (doing this is supposed to stop hair absorbing chlorine so much), then afterwards I shampoo and use the Banana Hair Food as I find it helps a lot, followed by a cold rinse. About twice a week I use it as a mask and the rest as a normal conditioner.

Vyvyan13
How do you use a dressing gown tie ?

Vyvyan13 · 28/04/2023 09:22

@millypeggyandpandora

So with the tie if you place it over the top of your head and have equal amounts of the tie running down each side of your head. Held in place with a clip or not. You then section your hair and wrap it around the sides of the tie, piece by piece all the way to the end. You then leave it over night or for a few hours and you will have beautiful heartless curls.

There are some great tutorials on this on YouTube just search dressing gown curls 😊 x

Is this for real? 🤣

Hey leave them alone - if it works for them don't ridicule

DanBenandBud · 28/04/2023 13:43

A deep conditioning hair mask and a good hair brush which can massage the scalp also

jacqui5366 · 29/04/2023 11:03

I find a detangling leave in conditioner works for me - easy to. brush, looks thicker and in better condition

Isthatascratchonmygrandmother · 29/04/2023 11:17

I've always loved the idea of shampoo bars and have tried a range of them that unfortunately left my hair waxy, or dried out. I've recently come across Grüum. Didn't have high hopes but thought I would try their trial pack. The bar shampoo is amazing, foams up really well and leaves my hair light as a feather and shiny when dry. Great formula.
