Whether you’re purchasing for your own baby or as a gift for a loved one, selecting newborn baby clothes can be a really special experience. However, there can be a lot to consider, so in celebration of their new organic cotton newborn range, Baby Boden would like to hear what’s important to you when choosing baby clothes.

Here’s what Boden has to say: “Baby Boden is excited to share its brand new newborn organic cotton range. In a selection of aww-inspiring designs with Boden signature details, the new collection is made from snuggly soft organic cotton which is kinder to the planet and gentle on the softest of skin.

The collection features snuggly zip-up sleepsuits, bodies in packs of 3, reversible styles, dresses, hats, dungarees, and also gift sets ranging from 4 to 7 pieces, which all come in a matching fabric bag or a beautiful Baby Boden gift box - perfect for gifting new parents who are expecting a new arrival. The whole range is machine washable, and carefully constructed with the safety and comfort of little ones in mind so you don’t have to worry.”

Do you put a lot of thought into the fabric of your baby’s clothes, perhaps preferring organic cotton? Is it important to you that your baby’s clothes are as soft as possible? Perhaps your clothing choices are influenced by the fabric’s effect on your baby’s skin? Or are you most interested in the washability and longevity of your choices? Maybe you’re most interested in the placement of poppers, buttons or zips, to ensure it’s convenient when you need to do a swift nappy change?

All who share what they believe to be most important when purchasing baby clothes will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 Boden voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Natural fibres and minimal appliqué bits. No printed bits because they never last and soon look tatty.
I also wanted them to be of decent thickness and wash well so I could pass them on to the next child.
I preferred more neutral unisex shades, so that everything goes together without much effort. Love finding clothes featuring British wildlife though.

Organic cotton & other high quality materials would definitely sway me, nothing man made. I just feel they'll last & withstand washing. If it's an investment piece like a snowsuit I might look for it to be unisex with future babies in mind. 🙏🏻Something colourful & quirky that makes us smile. Hate when baby clothes are made to look like adult clothes. I believe they should be whimsical yet contemporary. I'm not crazy on really loud designs, they should be reasonably likely to match other clothes we have so not crazy colourful. Love colour & pattern but not a big range of colour on one thing. I love little details, patches, contrast cuffs, colourful zips etc. Means of dressing is important & ease of changing. Love the starter/contrast popper detail in some branded baby-grows. Warmth is a big factor too. I'm more likely to invest in outer layers that will be seen - it being the depth of winter now.

Always cotton. I mostly have popper sleepsuits but they need to have double layer of material around the popper area as I've had a few times where pulling the poppers open have caused little holes in the material, but given the choice i will buy zipper sleepsuits because they are way quicker! Also for babies up to 6 months i love the mitten part of the sleeves on sleepsuits! Really helped stop my baby scratching himself, but also made me feel better at night when he was sleeping, that his little fingers didn't get cold!
For me, I only really choose bold print patterns on baby clothes, or simple, light colours.
My last preference is that I LOVE a whole outfit, when it comes with vest, outfit, hat, bib etc. Really looks adorable!

noscoobydoodle · 24/01/2021 07:45

Soft and comfortable, easy to take on and off, wash and wear well, good value. These are my priorities. I will then look at designs- I prefer unisex designs, bright and bold or neutral beautiful patterns (although middle daughter is much more partial to pink and sparkly!). Comfort is key for me for the babies though- for example I wouldn't buy jeans for my baby- I would choose soft joggers with soft waistband, (no zips, buttons etc) or soft babygrows.

I want baby clothes that are practical, comfortable and cute. So things that are easy to put on/take off, soft cotton fabric, wash well and still look good after many washes. The price is important too of course, babies are in a size for such a short time. I also tend to choose unisex colours and love interesting patterns/prints.

kitschplease · 24/01/2021 08:40

Soft cotton, easy to wash, tumble durable, no sharp buttons or zips, no slogans like 'mummy's princess', affordable.

alwaysataldi · 24/01/2021 09:41

Always natural fibres, no fiddly fastenings, one think I dislike is putting babies in jeans or 'designer' wear - a baby dressed head to toe in Nike or Burberry - is so cringe - I see this so much at school - babies should be babies not a fashion statement.
I love a soft cotton babygrow, in a soft pastel colour.

Kiki275 · 24/01/2021 09:51

Firstly, DS always wore (M&S) soft white cotton vests underneath whatever he was wearing. For comfort, ease of washing and no need to worry about matching.
On top, I chose clothes that firstly fitted. He was a chunky baby so anything slim fit was a no. I mostly went for cotton, again for comfort and washability. Necklines and button/popper placement a big thing, I wanted easy off clothing in the event of a nappy explosion.
Colour was also a big factor, I wanted bright colours and not just the 50 shades of blue, grey & khaki that seem standard for boys.x

Design is what catches my eye - I have girls but I don't want everything to be pink and covered in extra frills and/or unicorns - then I want baby clothes to be (preferably ethical) cotton, easy to put on, and able to go in the tumble dryer without shrinking.

Summergarden · 24/01/2021 11:10

Soft fabric is very important as is wash ability- not pilling or fading too quickly.

Sensible positioning of poppers for easy changing.

problembottom · 24/01/2021 12:41

I look for super soft organic cotton above all - I find the softness of cotton really varies across brands and doesn’t always correspond with the price - and clothes that wash well. Easy poppered access down the front is a must for sleepsuits due to the frequency of nappy changes when they’re tiny. Finally I’m a sucker for a cute print - the ones in the pictures are adorable.

DollyP23 · 24/01/2021 14:41

Soft cotton, easy to wash and durable. Vests and babygrows or rompers rather than complicated outfits. Nice, bright and cheery prints

jellybeanpopper · 24/01/2021 14:46

Definitely cotton, soft and comfortable feel with no embellishments that will itch or scratch.

Also easy to put on and take off. Convenient for nappy changes.

Easy washing instructions.

jellybeanpopper · 24/01/2021 14:47

Good value and neutral designs too

OneCarefulDriver · 24/01/2021 14:48

Gender neutral and no stupid slogans.

SpicyTinkle · 24/01/2021 14:56

That they are soft and comfortable. Easy to get on and off. No special washing instructions or frills/appliqués that might rub or irritate. I like bold and funky designs/patterns too.

lucymagoo · 24/01/2021 15:36

Price, they grow so fast I don't want to spend a lot of money on something when they're only going to grow out of it right away, I'm regularly having to buy the next size up and spend again.

Neutral nice designs and patterns that are cute and tasteful, no monsters or cars, he's just a baby he doesn't like those things yet and neither do I! Grin

Attictroll · 24/01/2021 16:56

Easily washable a balance of price vs quality as they are in them for such a short amount of time.

Bryna · 24/01/2021 17:35

Cotton, neutral colours, nice patterns, poppers in the right places, easy to get on/off. No special washing, frills or appliqués with a rough underside.
Price is important too, particularly if I'm not planning another, I'm more likely to buy a dearer brand if I know I'll get a lot of use from them.

Kateblue · 24/01/2021 17:49

Ethically produced.
Cotton, preferably organic or bamboo.
Easy to wear - preferably zips on sleep suits.
Quality and easy to wash.
Colours and patterns - unisex preferably- I like a bird print!

RyvitaBrevis · 24/01/2021 19:02

Fold over scratch mitts on the sleeves are the first thing I look for!

Carouselfish · 24/01/2021 19:10

No uncomfortable bits at the back of their neck, so any buttons should be at shoulder instead. No itchy label stitching either, printed label in neck instead. Warm clothes should be wool not double layered cotton. Bright and happy patterns in boy and girl clothes, no black. Practical so not long dresses or circulation cutting skinny jeans. Honestly prefer to keep them in baby grows than outfits until they're one.

LongWinterNights · 24/01/2021 20:17

For babies it absolutely has to be soft 100% cotton - and it needs to wash well and not shrink or bobble! Good quality clothes are an investment and I olan to pass them on to the next baby.

puglife · 24/01/2021 20:20

I always go for soft cotton clothes, that look and feel comfy. They have to be easy to get on/off and have poppers for easy changing.
I've just had a baby boy and the clothes I've bought have just been ones that look warm and cosy seen as we're not going anywhere! He's staying in sleep suits all the time as these seem most practical.
I love the look of the new range at Boden.

SkyTrees · 24/01/2021 20:44

Good quality soft and comfortable fabrics that wash well.
Comfortable clothes that are easy to get on and off and easy access for nappy changes.
Gender neutral designs and no written slogans
