Traditional cold and flu season may be behind us, but memories of how a cold and flu make you feel won’t be. Whether it’s a sore throat, blocked nose or a full blown fever, there’s a product out there designed to help with the symptoms. With that in mind Lemsip would like to hear about the ways you usually manage a cold or the flu, what type of products you use and what makes you choose them.

Here’s what Lemsip has to say: “we understand that every person and every cold is different and our aim is to help you treat your symptoms and yourself the best way possible. With this in mind Lemsip would like to learn more about why and when you reach for certain cold and flu products.”

What do you usually do when you start to feel unwell? What do you find helps the most? Are the solutions you like the ones that make you feel physically better, or those that keep your spirits up while you’re under the weather? What do you use to help keep the symptoms at bay so you can get some much needed rest overnight? Do you find natural remedies help? What would make you reach for a hot drink remedy?

Whatever your tips for managing colds and flu, share them with Lemsip below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I usually get a load of fruit in, especially oranges, I find an orange always makes me feel better. I also use the day and night capsules as they are the only medicines I find work for me, I don't like the taste of the drinks. Also a good bowl of steam to put my head over and some eucalyptus oil in the bath 🥰😍

When feeling unwell I find drinking lots of water and resting as much as possible is key. I also drink lots of honey and lemon for a sore throat and take ibroprofen for muscle aches.

When I feel a cold coming on, I try to gargle with salt water as soon as possible. It might be just coincidence but I do feel like that helps control the severity and/or duration of the cold in some way.

When I do feel poorly, I try to consume as many liquids and I can--tea, squash, lemonade, whatever. Even if it means spending way too much time going to the toilet, it makes me feel like I'm flushing out all the germs.

There's nothing better than some paracetamol and lots of rest to see you through an illness.

Soluble paracetamol, throat lozenges, home made soup and a few drops of lavender oil on my pillow at night.

I do like a lemsip. Though have been pregnant so much over the last 8 years I havent had in a while. Getting plenty of fresh air and drinking warm juice really helps me. Rest also helps but easier said than done. I find if I can rest a bit I get better quicker than if I over medicate/carry on.

Everyone has their own method, but what works for us is cuddles, sleep and time out. We rarely use medicine unless the kids are really poorly. The biggest health issue one of my kids suffers from is tonsillitis, and in this case he needs lots of ice cream 🍦

Night Nurse Day & Night capsules for medication.
Avoid lemsip sand instead have fresh lemon & honey hot drinks (maybe with Brandy too at night). Hot Vimto or Ribena are lovely when you're cold and/or poorly.
Calpol plug ins when in bed aid sleep.

My lovely MIL is a bit of hypochondriac and obsessed with not getting ill, she snorts some sort of nasal defence spray from October to March. Her nasal passages must be a constant battle ground. The moment she has a sniffle, she starts on the vitamin C, washed down with copious amounts of honey and lemon. There’s some sort of steam thing, tissues with a special coating, vapour rub all over everywhere...but she doesn’t like taking medicine so won’t just have a Lemsip and get on with it like the rest of us. I’m sure paracetamol would sort her out but she won’t hear of it!

Lemsip if I need the paracetamol as well. Otherwise, lemon squeezed into saucepan, heated gently with a couple of teaspoons of sugar. Also, spicy food!

When I start to feel unwell I drink loads of water. I often get a sore throat first, so I'll have warm drinks and try and wrap up. Then I take paracetamol if needs be, and get some early nights..

As soon as I feel the first symptoms I take 2 paracetamol. If it develops I am a big fan of Day Nurse/Night Nurse and Lemsip. A warm bath helps too - as does having your husband making dinner!!!

When I was a student I worked in a retirement village where the Dr swore by Zinc 20mg 4x a day for colds/flu. I very rarely get them if I do this at the first sign of a cold/flu and neither did his patients.

First sign of a cold I make sure i drink plenty of fluids. Warm drinks I have found can help when you get the first tickle at the back of your throat. Comfort food definitely helps as well as tomato soup!

Lemsip (genuinely!).... and a hot shower to sooth the nose... then keep the windows open with cool air to keep it clear!
