Traditional cold and flu season may be behind us, but memories of how a cold and flu make you feel won’t be. Whether it’s a sore throat, blocked nose or a full blown fever, there’s a product out there designed to help with the symptoms. With that in mind Lemsip would like to hear about the ways you usually manage a cold or the flu, what type of products you use and what makes you choose them.

Here’s what Lemsip has to say: “we understand that every person and every cold is different and our aim is to help you treat your symptoms and yourself the best way possible. With this in mind Lemsip would like to learn more about why and when you reach for certain cold and flu products.”

What do you usually do when you start to feel unwell? What do you find helps the most? Are the solutions you like the ones that make you feel physically better, or those that keep your spirits up while you’re under the weather? What do you use to help keep the symptoms at bay so you can get some much needed rest overnight? Do you find natural remedies help? What would make you reach for a hot drink remedy?

Whatever your tips for managing colds and flu, share them with Lemsip below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Lots of vitamin C, echinacea, hot water with honey (a good quality one) and ginger (pureed), and plenty of rest.

jacqui5366 · 13/07/2020 10:13

Paracetamol every four hours, and an early night with come decongestant on my pillow and chest.

Ashhead24 · 13/07/2020 10:26

I've been pregnant/breastfeeding for the last 5 years and haven't been able to take anything other than paracetamol and glycerin. So lots of honey and lemon and trying to rest.

MumC2141 · 13/07/2020 15:42

Just rest when I can and take paracetamol.

RegalRags · 13/07/2020 16:25

Decongestant without caffeine
Paracetamol
Hot water with honey, lemon and ginger
Plenty of water
Blanket on the sofa
Netflix binge
Chocolate Smile

joleyn · 13/07/2020 18:47

I try to rest, drink full fat coke, take paracetamol and keep warm.

pushchairprincess · 14/07/2020 11:35

Home made chicken soup, paracetamol, lots of water/juice and an early night (if you can get one)

LimedTimbers · 14/07/2020 15:44

Menthol near my pillow. Having a shower and being in a humid room helps clear my airways. Rest, lots of fluids, vitamin C and pain relief

buckley1983 · 14/07/2020 22:27

At the first hint of a cold - I try to get in there early before that groggy headed feeling takes over! Mug of Lemsip (blackcurrant ones are my favourite), plenty of fluids & an early night.
I've found the best thing for a blocked nose is a Boots blocked nose spray - it always sorts it & allows for a more restful night!

seriousandloyal · 14/07/2020 22:30

Keep the windows open for fresh air, afternoon naps, lots of fluids and blackcurrant lemsips.

KarenCBC · 15/07/2020 07:43

Always lemsip! My husband tells me to take paracetamol and a hot drink but it’s just not the same. I also have to have a product called happinose to hand. It stopped my nose getting all dry and cracked from all the blowing. Like Vaseline with menthol

Angelous · 15/07/2020 18:29

I find that if I have a cold or flu bug the best thing I can do is rest.
Lemsip, pj's, fluffy warm socks, vitamin c, a comfortable pillow, blanket and a good film or box set!
Fill sink with hot water and Inhail steam if you are blocked up and apply some vicks.
Get lots of sleep too!

Montydoo · 16/07/2020 10:28

An onion cut in half on your bedside table, and menthol rub on your feet (no joke it works) and paracetamol.

UnicornsForLife · 16/07/2020 12:12

I have lots of hot drinks. A hot shower helps clear the sinuses. IF its a bad cold I would have lemsip too.

torthecatlady · 16/07/2020 12:43

Loads of fluids especially freshly squeezed orange juice, damp flannel on forehead, warm sinus rinse (by NeilMed) twice a day, regular paracetamol.

EvilHerbivore · 16/07/2020 14:15

Lots of fluids, paracetamol and rest. Struggling on and being a martyr will only make you more ill in the long run

WhatILoved · 16/07/2020 20:58

Always a big bowl of boiling water and tea towel over head. Then a hot bath

emphasisofmatter · 16/07/2020 22:07

Ah I'm quite simple! Paracetamol regularly and keeping hydrated, and getting plenty of rest.

BuddingHolly · 16/07/2020 23:43

A decongestant tablet. I used to buy the Sudafed ones but found the same active ingredients are in non-branded ones so I buy those now. That plus some nasal spray for a blocked nose (hate sleeping if I can’t breathe properly) and I’m good to go! Don’t really like having to drink a mug of something like Lemsip and would always choose tablets if I could. Other than that, lazy days and comfort food!

HaloeVera · 16/07/2020 23:44

Lots of but c, plus copious amounts of hit lemon juice with honey. Green tea and a big blanket wrapped around the patient who relaxes on the sofa.

HaloeVera · 16/07/2020 23:44

Vit c.

What do you usually do when you start to feel unwell? Usually, I try to tough it out for a while. I hate taking medications for longer than necessary but I always make sure I have a good stock of cold cures, cough sweets and tissues. We tend to have half empty packs of cold cure tablets all over the place - somehow those night and day pills get all out of balance.

What do you find helps the most? Typically when I'm working and not breastfeeding my kids, I take Lemsip Night and Day capsules if I have found some on special offer, or the supermarket equivalent. I have been pŕegnant or breastfeeding for over two years so I have really missed effective cold cure pills! I have found Sterimar is brilliant for clearing congestion and relieving sinus problems, Olbas oil at night time, whilst Fisherman's Friends sort out even the most horrible coughs. Beyond that, hot drinks, staying indoors and trying to rest where possible. For a heavy cold there is absolutely nothing like a hot drink. I don't really like the flavour of the Lemsip powder drinks, but they definitely make you feel better than popping a pill. My husband usually makes me drink them even when I'm complaining like a little kid that I don't want to drink it.

When I'm properly poorly, all I really want is soup, honey and lemon in hot water, and sleep. With two kids it is hard to keep going all day, and you have that awful dread of night time, being woken up by sick children and breastfeeding while your cold is so bad that your nose is just dripping, and every time you sneeze or cough the baby half wakes up again.

ShipshapeShore · 17/07/2020 14:28

I don't like the taste of lemsip drinks so I take the cold and flu capsules and have a nice cup of tea instead!

A steamy shower is nice, and I fill the sink with hot water and eucalyptus, peppermint and tea tree essential oil to mingle in the steam.

lolly2010 · 17/07/2020 15:23

Hot steamy bath of shower, lots of rest and a berry fruits Lemsip.
