This sponsored discussion is now closed. Thank you to all who took the time to post below.

We all need some rest and relaxation every now and again. A short stay away might just be the break that you and your family need to recover from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and can provide the perfect opportunity for the whole family to do activities that you wouldn’t normally get the chance to. Whether you’d like to spend your time playing board games, hiring bicycles, exploring the local towns or enjoying the facilities at the Hotel Spa, Luxury Family Holidays would like to hear from you.

Here’s what Luxury Family Hotels have to say: “Here at Luxury Family Hotels we know how important family time is and so our aim is to create places for families to make life-long memories. Whether it’s a family swim or bike ride, adventures in the gardens or exploring many of the wonderful days out near any of our hotels, every family will find something to enjoy together.”

Where in the UK would you like to go on a break away? What would your typical day look like on your family holiday? Do you have a perfectly planned schedule of the activities you plan to do? Would you rather go on a coastal stroll or a walk through the open fields of the countryside? Are there any activities that you would like to do together as a family on a UK break away which are not currently offered by hotels you’ve stayed at in the past?

Everyone who shares their favourite activities on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a two-night bed & breakfast stay at the Luxury Family Hotel of their choice*.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Our last family holiday was only about an hour from our home but it was by the sea and we spent it having family meals, swimming, building sand castles and visiting local attractions. My two are still really small but we still like to visit castles and museums as there is always something that captures their imagination.

As they get older I look forward to maybe getting the chance to visit a spa or even just relax and read a book!

We love taking the short drive to the Gower, or to West or North Wales. Wandering along almost deserted beaches, whether in the sun or the wind is so refreshing. And we can also watch nature (our daughter is a very keen ornithologist). But there are also visits to ancient monuments, exploring and trying to bring to life the stories and history surrounding them ... plus the occasional long-distance day at a theme park (as a special treat!).

We always pack a boardgame, for when the weather inevitably fails us :D

janeyf1 · 25/02/2020 10:19

We like to spend time by the coast, swimming, building sandcastles, playing boules, having picnics

gd2011 · 25/02/2020 10:20

Lots of walks in the fresh air - beaches, parks, woodlands.

topsy73 · 25/02/2020 10:21

the main thing we don't do is overplan! Our holidays are all about making special memories, having fun and relaxing!

emmal01 · 25/02/2020 10:30

Anywhere near the sea is a winner
We also incorporate animal activities somewhere along the line as my daughter is obsessed
Last year it was Alpaca walking

Doodygirl2009 · 25/02/2020 10:33

We have never been on a family holiday but we’d love a cottage break near a lake, lots of activities to do near by

Leanfun · 25/02/2020 10:37

We like going to the sea side with outdoor activities. We also have had some dreadful weather on holidays so nwould be looking for some indoor activities too.

Bellaboo1234 · 25/02/2020 10:51

Spending time in the outdoors, by the water, making memories by taking photos, even when they all moan(not another one), I advise them they will love having them to look back on and remembering all the places we visited. We love having the option to make some snacks in the room before more adventures then having somewhere nice to dine in the evening.

maureen3733 · 25/02/2020 10:51

We make sure the hotel is near a local attraction especially swimming based

helcrai · 25/02/2020 11:22

We like to go to a coastal resort not too far from home (kids aren't good travellers). I like to try and instigate a "digital detox" on our breaks where we try & keep the kids off their devices and instead tire them out with lots of walks and fresh air on the beach, starting as early as we can manage it. We then like to have a picnic lunch outdoors, weather permitting and explore any local attractions which often means spending time in the slot machines on the pier! We just tend to go with the flow after that- supper and bedtimes are quite fluid depending on how tired we are. I would like to see more organised family sport ideas in hotels, perhaps archery or team games. Often there's only the swimming pool to go in which can get a bit repetitive.

emmag1925 · 25/02/2020 11:26

I like visiting the local attractions so I like to go somewhere with various attractions. I would love a family holiday in London or Devon. If I went to London we would go on the London Eye, have a Thames River cruise, have a meal with a view from The Shard, visit The London Dungeons, Madame Tussauds and Shrek's Adventure

danigrace · 25/02/2020 12:21

Perfectly planned schedule of fun activities works for us, with a handbag full of spare activities for inevitable queues etc

andywedge · 25/02/2020 12:26

Can't beat playing on the beach

sheilads105 · 25/02/2020 12:31

A break in the UK is a chance to delve into history...no sun required, just castles, old city walls, local museums and imagination.

moosexxx · 25/02/2020 13:11

We like going to beach/coast holidays. So this will involve some time on the beach, but also time looking at local castles, manor houses, and other historical sites. As well as looking around local towns/villages and other attractions.

Bigboytyson · 25/02/2020 14:39

We always make sure we have plenty of fun and always take pictures of our memories so we have something to look back on. We also make sure we have something to do so we don't get bored even if it is raining.
This us our diwn time so we don't talk or think about school or work just having fun with the famalam(dog is included too)

clareycat · 25/02/2020 14:50

We love beachcombing, making sandcastles and geocaching.

Mitcholiver · 25/02/2020 15:06

Going out on our bikes and cycling into the woods, great way of escaping normality of life!!

sweir1 · 25/02/2020 15:50

We love to try new food. And we love to investigate local parks

sezz35 · 25/02/2020 18:27

We like to go to the beach, swim and eat ice cream.

nikilily · 25/02/2020 18:43
