This sponsored discussion is now closed. Thank you to all who took the time to post below.

We all need some rest and relaxation every now and again. A short stay away might just be the break that you and your family need to recover from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and can provide the perfect opportunity for the whole family to do activities that you wouldn’t normally get the chance to. Whether you’d like to spend your time playing board games, hiring bicycles, exploring the local towns or enjoying the facilities at the Hotel Spa, Luxury Family Holidays would like to hear from you.

Here’s what Luxury Family Hotels have to say: “Here at Luxury Family Hotels we know how important family time is and so our aim is to create places for families to make life-long memories. Whether it’s a family swim or bike ride, adventures in the gardens or exploring many of the wonderful days out near any of our hotels, every family will find something to enjoy together.”

Where in the UK would you like to go on a break away? What would your typical day look like on your family holiday? Do you have a perfectly planned schedule of the activities you plan to do? Would you rather go on a coastal stroll or a walk through the open fields of the countryside? Are there any activities that you would like to do together as a family on a UK break away which are not currently offered by hotels you’ve stayed at in the past?

Everyone who shares their favourite activities on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a two-night bed & breakfast stay at the Luxury Family Hotel of their choice*.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

We love to walk on the beach, go for long walks and then play board games in the evening. It's nice to have a chance to relax.

Earache2020 · 23/02/2020 20:28

We have enjoyed Cornwall, Devon and the Lake district. We enjoy beaches, nice pubs and family friendly restaurants, museums, national trust attractions, petting zoos or farms, markets, and nature walks.

We loved a staycation before having Ds and love them now too! Last year we took ds to southwold and surrounding area and to the new forest. Loved seeing him experience new things. Hes 20 months now and loves exploring so this summer I really want to take him on walks through forests, on the beach, crabbing, and padding in the sea. Were also going on a trip up north and I'm excited for him to have a go on a steam train as he loves them.

WrenNatsworthy · 23/02/2020 21:58

Switch off the technology! We are happy on the coast or inland, as long as there is somewhere to swim.
Staying in a hotel is really exciting for our DS, sitting in hotel lounges reading, exploring, going for walks. Eating well and sharing a room. It won't be long until he's too old to enjoy that with us, so we're holding on to every moment.

We love spontaneity, good food is also important, when we're away its important that there's plenty to do when the weather is bad. Accessibility is very important now!

Due to my husband constantly working we don't really get ma y breaks as a family , but when we do we treasure them times most. It can vary from a short break in Blackpool so the kids can see the lights and spend a bit of time on the beach. Or we go into the country as the kids like exploring outside. But I suppose wherever we go and whatever we end up doing as long as we are getting those times together as a family that's all that matters.😀

Walkingtheplank · 24/02/2020 02:08

The fun of a family holiday is just us being together, especially so as I work odd hours.
When we are together, away from home, we end up having such a giggle.
We do always end up swimming - so a pool us vital.
Within the UK, we like to try new places e.g. I've never been to Suffolk or the Peak District, but my favourite place is Dorset- absolutely idyllic.

We love a big sand pit holiday ( translation near the the beach) Activities are great now option and we would probably like to do one each day of a break, various times and then get out to visit somewhere each day. We walk a lot normally as we have a dog, so to visit places like castles or villages when we are dog free is always great.I love hotels for the meals as it takes the stress out of finding somewhere to eat and you can relax.

DS is preschool age I miss going to
Classes or activities with him. Its always great to do something different. He'd love making a little car to race, or even a paper boat. He really likes cake and biscuit decorating. Certainly crafts you don't do at home like paper marbling go down well, anything that's a bit science experiment.

Satonloo · 24/02/2020 18:08

Spending the day on the beach. Running around and playing in rock pools.

MerryTwinkletoes · 24/02/2020 22:31

We love to explore new places, and find that being outdoors really lifts all our spirits and reduces the bickering! Love to walk around a new country park, explore the coast or a nature reserve etc.

I like to have at least one day planned for each break, then just take the rest of the time easy. We love to find new places to eat too - can't beat a walk to a good pub!

I wish hotels offered more variety in kids menus than nuggets/sausages/microwave spag Bol. Why not mini versions of the grownups meals??

Snugabugz · 24/02/2020 22:54

Fresh air to tire the kiddos out! Beach, woods, parks, bikes.

Favourite type of day would be high ropes, then big pub meal, and relax in a beer garden whilst the kids run about

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 24/02/2020 23:06

Walk in the local town / woods / lanes.

sootyo · 25/02/2020 08:49

Nothing like a short break in the countryside or the coast in the UK. A refreshing walk in the countryside or a stimulating walk along a sandy beach. Then a comforting home cooked meal , followed by board games by the fire.Great way to make memories.

mrdutts · 25/02/2020 08:49

Love to go walking outdoors, rather be active.

Pmliu · 25/02/2020 09:01

Exploring, having adventures and going to the beach

liupm88 · 25/02/2020 09:04

We love going to theme parks, well my little ones and my other half do anyway, little ones love rides and are bit of an adrenaline junkie just like their dad, I on the other hand rather watch from the sidelines as I am not much of a fan of all these fast rides

GSB88 · 25/02/2020 09:05

Little ones and wife love going to the zoo, they just love animals and learning about all the interesting facts about them

Singhtb88 · 25/02/2020 09:07

My little ones take after their wife and they love shopping, especially in these quaint unique shops in the villages or by the beach, little ones love the beach and the seaside aswell

Fiton15 · 25/02/2020 09:11

We love to do all the touristy attractions, zoos, beaches, theme parks, shopping, exploring, as long as we are all together we always have fun no matter what we do.

ThemisA · 25/02/2020 09:14

We all love science museums, fossil hunting, walking and picnics, visiting small humane farms, castles

snare · 25/02/2020 09:18

We love to take a walk into town and browse the shops. We will have lunch and then go for a swim :)

dajohnston10 · 25/02/2020 09:27
