This sponsored discussion is now closed. Thank you to all who took the time to post below.

We all need some rest and relaxation every now and again. A short stay away might just be the break that you and your family need to recover from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and can provide the perfect opportunity for the whole family to do activities that you wouldn’t normally get the chance to. Whether you’d like to spend your time playing board games, hiring bicycles, exploring the local towns or enjoying the facilities at the Hotel Spa, Luxury Family Holidays would like to hear from you.

Here’s what Luxury Family Hotels have to say: “Here at Luxury Family Hotels we know how important family time is and so our aim is to create places for families to make life-long memories. Whether it’s a family swim or bike ride, adventures in the gardens or exploring many of the wonderful days out near any of our hotels, every family will find something to enjoy together.”

Where in the UK would you like to go on a break away? What would your typical day look like on your family holiday? Do you have a perfectly planned schedule of the activities you plan to do? Would you rather go on a coastal stroll or a walk through the open fields of the countryside? Are there any activities that you would like to do together as a family on a UK break away which are not currently offered by hotels you’ve stayed at in the past?

Everyone who shares their favourite activities on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a two-night bed & breakfast stay at the Luxury Family Hotel of their choice*.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Finding a lovely, peaceful secluded spot for a picnic and where DD can practice with her camera.

Exploring new places

GloGirl · 11/02/2020 09:42

We normally grab an old set of cartoons that's nostalgic for us adults and new for the kids and enjoy watching them together first thing in the morning for our holidays. Its starts the day off on an easy fun tone.

The kids also really enjoy a hot tub so a holiday with use of one is ideal.

Bez33 · 11/02/2020 11:16

We mostly just go for (easy, flat) walks, where we know we’ll find one or two playgrounds. A warm, indoor pool with lots of toddler friendly areas and toys is always good.

starlight36 · 11/02/2020 11:49

Plenty of space in a family room that we don't feel like we are sleeping on one another. A few nice biscuits and sachets of hot chocolate always go down well with the kids!
A nice swimming pool and spacious grounds outside - maybe a few tables so Mum and Dad an enjoy a drink whilst watching the kids play!
We like having something nearby to visit - whether a beach, nice NT property or museum to visit.

Well, having looked at the website, I feel a bit weepy just at the thought of it tbh. I really like the outdoors and we walk a lot as a family. But omg it would be nice to stay in a decent hotel and have nice meals and some spa time. I really hope I win!

Love having family time away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Having a hotel breakfast is always such a treat!! A hotel with a pool is a great addition to a break away with the family and if there’s a spa that I can escape to for an hour for a massage then I’m always happy! Locations count too - going to new area gives you the opportunity to explore, go for a walk and find a nice cafe/shop.

Outdoors, Cornwall or Pembroke
Beautiful campsite with top facilities
Walking distance to quaint town
And beach and cosy pub !!
Shopping for knick knacks, enjoying sunshine and fresh air
Eating in pub garden that is family friendly and classy
..... roll on summer !!! 😊

Where in the UK would you like to go on a break away?
I'd love to venture further north, maybe even to Scotland.
What would your typical day look like on your family holiday?
We alternate busy activity/excursion days with chill days.
Do you have a perfectly planned schedule of the activities you plan to do?
I have a rough idea but not set in stone.
Would you rather go on a coastal stroll or a walk through the open fields of the countryside?
Either/both. But the dds favourite is the shortest option with a tearoom or pub at the end.
Are there any activities that you would like to do together as a family on a UK break away which are not currently offered by hotels you’ve stayed at in the past? Segway!

A good walk of collecting...leaves, sticks, stones, pebbles, shells anything they can gather into a bag and use to “craft” keeps my DC happy. I’m happy as long as I don’t need to think about feeding anyone and have a good book and a cozy bed.

fishnships · 11/02/2020 17:46

We like to stay on an island then hire a car to explore. So, lots of walking, exploring beaches off the beaten track and discovering local wildlife then back to the pool and a meal in the evening. Lovely!

Maybedefinitely · 11/02/2020 19:41

We love lots of space, interesting food and a great swimming pool to enjoy.

caffeinebuzz · 11/02/2020 19:48

We like to keep things pretty free flow, with the option of activities or just chilling out (ideally outdoors on a lovely summers day), away from the pressures of everyday life. Good food is always a plus!

MissusMaker · 11/02/2020 20:53

We would like to go to a near a tourist destination - a theme park, zoo, aquarium or the beach, something like that.

It's important to us that the hotel has a child-friendly swimming pool, if there are toys or board games available to borrow that would be the icing on the cake...

lupus · 11/02/2020 20:55

Mummy bed tv: all of us piled into bed together watching something nostalgic from when the kids were young. So busy with separate sports normally, it's a lovely calm way to reconnect and reminisce

Beach11 · 11/02/2020 21:31

Go the beach for the day come rain or shine. Building sand castles, speed boats, treaties hunts, splashing g etc and then finish of the day with a fish n chips tea whilst listening to the waves and watching the sea. Perfect! 😊 My ultimate happy place 😃

Tefiti2 · 11/02/2020 21:59

I would love to go to Cornwall/ St Ives - it’s literally at the opposite end of the country from us! We love to get out and about, exploring the local area and outdoor kids activities/play parks, then see where the day takes us! I really love Martinhals approach to family holidays, their resorts are really child centred, it would be brilliant to see something similar in the UK.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 11/02/2020 22:51

We love Northumberland and a favourite activity is always swimming (in fancy pools with spas etc!) enjoy eating out and mixture of self catering for flexibility. Main thing is having separate rooms for kids and adults that typical hotels don’t offer .

PatriciaHolm · 11/02/2020 23:11

Mine always like a schedule, so we like to plan, but with some downtime. Now they are teenagers it gets harder!

JC4PMPLZ · 11/02/2020 23:14

We love to go to cities with lots of museums, theatres, cinemas and places to eat. Even better if there is a beach nearby. The children live any and all hotels, but one thing I would love in a family hotel is a games room, with cards, board games, things to do outside of being told up in room with liud Tv blaring. Also one of the best hotel experiences I had was in Norway, where at lunchtime a waffle maker and better with lots of cream was out out for guests.

MerlinsBeard87 · 12/02/2020 01:57

My favourite places are wales, Northumberland and North Yorkshire. We take things pretty easy and plan day by day according to the weather and what we feel like. Our favourite things to do are going to the beach, castles and historic houses or pottering through pretty villages with independent shops and cafes.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 12/02/2020 03:40

We are quite relaxed. The beach at least one day is a must! We also enjoy exploring the coast. We live near the sea but would still choose to holiday near water. Either sea, river or lake as it is very calming. We love to then relax in the evening with a nice bbq if the weather is good. Books and board games are also a must for evenings and rainy days!

elizaco · 12/02/2020 08:59

My children are well into their teens now, but remembering our last family holiday in consisted of a couple of days walking, a day at Go Ape, a day hiring bikes, a visit to a theme park and another day visiting caves. Travelling to our destination we called at a National Trust property and on the way home we spent a few hours at an agricultural show. Something to please everyone and we all returned home happy!
