This sponsored discussion is now closed. Thank you to all who took the time to post below.

We all need some rest and relaxation every now and again. A short stay away might just be the break that you and your family need to recover from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and can provide the perfect opportunity for the whole family to do activities that you wouldn’t normally get the chance to. Whether you’d like to spend your time playing board games, hiring bicycles, exploring the local towns or enjoying the facilities at the Hotel Spa, Luxury Family Holidays would like to hear from you.

Here’s what Luxury Family Hotels have to say: “Here at Luxury Family Hotels we know how important family time is and so our aim is to create places for families to make life-long memories. Whether it’s a family swim or bike ride, adventures in the gardens or exploring many of the wonderful days out near any of our hotels, every family will find something to enjoy together.”

Where in the UK would you like to go on a break away? What would your typical day look like on your family holiday? Do you have a perfectly planned schedule of the activities you plan to do? Would you rather go on a coastal stroll or a walk through the open fields of the countryside? Are there any activities that you would like to do together as a family on a UK break away which are not currently offered by hotels you’ve stayed at in the past?

Everyone who shares their favourite activities on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a two-night bed & breakfast stay at the Luxury Family Hotel of their choice*.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Our traditional holidays are on the Norfolk coast with walks, crazy golf, chips by the sea and hiring a beach hut!

Love anywhere with a decent beach, but we like to do lots of activities as well, hotel with a swimming pool preferred, would be very happy to win this prize.

We (me, DP, 11 year old DS) had a great weekend camping in the New Forest last year. We hired bikes and went for a long ride which was lots of fun, if a bit knackering for me and DP! We also really enjoyed the open air swimming pool and inflatables at Lymington.

We love camping to keep the cost down but it would be lovely to have a luxury hotel to return to after a day out.

We love to explore the local area. I love trying out the local pubs and restaurants, especially if we are on the coast. Eating seafood while we watch the sea is a family favourite.

The most important thing is to spend quality time together as a family, away from the day to day rushing around.

We love a good mix of activities, exploring & rest.
We like the beach, playing in the sea, sightseeing, parks / playgrounds, good restaurants, nice walks - and decent accommodation to head back to!
City breaks are good too - we like Edinburgh & Chester.

A nice beach is a plus, but anywhere scenic to take a walk or hopefully bike ride when the kids are a bit older.

Activities-wise, I'd love to do something that is vaguely adult focussed, but with kids welcomed so they can join in. Like family cooking classes, or board games/quiz nights with games and quizzes for the whole family,

Anything outdoors, exercise, fresh air, new experiences. rock pooling, collecting shells and pebbles to paint back at home etc. We like to pack our days and tired the kids out so we can have a leisurely evening (with wine) while they sleep...

Something really active, followed by some down time and relaxing. To feel like a break for me I need to know the children will be enjoying themselves.

We love exploring the local towns and villages, if there is a castle nearby that's normally on the list too.

I live a bit of luxury! Just because erv got the kids with us we don't want to slum it! A great hotel, with room service, fluffy towels and biggish rooms, we're happy! We love a coastal break. The Antrim Coast was one of ultimate favourites.

Off to check out the link for inspo!

We holiday with 3 generations, if we can. Granny wants drives out and walks. We want cycling and walks. The kids want plenty to see and good Wi-fi!

Anywhere in the UK would be good but we are in Scotland so would prefer not to drive much past Yorkshire.

Me and my family enjoy staying near the coast, either in West Wales or Cornwall. We love finding a quiet beach, having a long walk, pebble or fossil hunting, having an Ice cream. Getting back to a lovely hotel after a long walk somewhere new feels amazing!

Just love to go and do something different- visit somewhere new and see all it has to offer. Definitely embrace the 'a change is as good as a rest' motto

A beach with rockpools when the kids were younger but now we're getting into canoeing and exploring rivers, and wild swimming if suitable. Swimming pool is always good for wet weather. Anywhere with water really. All love relaxing in hammocks too with a book, there's something very calming about swaying back and forth.

I love to relax and read a book, with hot coffee on tap, after a long day of chasing my toddler round hills or beaches. Then all get snuggled together after dinner Smile

Where in the UK would you like to go on a break away?different places.sometimes we love to be in the middle of countryside.with lots of farming fields and little villages all around so we can go walking, biking and famrers market.but sometimes we love the sea too.
What would your typical day look like on your family holiday?we like to see the local houses or NT places.or go to the beach.bike riding or taking a picnic somewhere or a walk and a pub.then a meal out or one cooked at home then boards games and tv snuggled up.proper relxation and play it by ear.
Do you have a perfectly planned schedule of the activities you plan to do?we like to look up the place we go to and see whats on.but hate hate hate being to pulled down by the pressure of a schedule.so try to relax into it.there will be certain places we wnat to visit but apart from thaat do what we wish on the day.especially since we like to wake up later than we planned every day!
Would you rather go on a coastal stroll or a walk through the open fields of the countryside?both!
Are there any activities that you would like to do together as a family on a UK break away which are not currently offered by hotels you’ve stayed at in the past? kanoes on the lakes.we did this in france down the rivers all the time.it was such a great day out.and horise riding days out.maybe even some cooking.

I have a 10 month old son and haven't had a family holiday with him yet. But relaxation and fun is what I look for in a holiday. We live in the midlands so somewhere within a 2-3 hour drive is perfect. I love the coast and can't wait to take my son to the beach, building sand castles and having a little paddle.

I like to have a few things planned and then rough ideas of other things we can do that I can choose from based on the weather, how everyone is feeling etc

We like staying in a forest type setting so that we get all of the wildlife, we will happily spend a day chilling and feeding wildlife

If it's a short break then ideally not more than 1 1/2 hours away. We'd go a bit longer for a week

All like walking - usually with a picnic and getting out for fresh air but love to be near water so either near a lake, river or the sea is important
We do research on the area to have a couple of day out ideas before we go then decide nearer the time which day to do them depending on weather
Hot tub time after a long walk is great and we have some of our best family conversations then
Couple of nights we eat out, sometimes eat in and try different foods
Play board games or do mystery games online
Have done escape rooms, zipwires etc. DC (11 & 13) are always open to trying something they haven't before. Things like high ropes we prefer to not have to go up with them so good to have parent viewing with a coffee options!

We’d go to Scotland, nice people and we like the train.
We plan ahead and book ahead.
We go coastal if possible.
For activities, we like to hire bikes, find a Go Ape type place, find a warm swimming pool, check out the books in the charity shops, borrow board games.

We usually like to be by the coast and will spend our time going for walks, exploring the local area and its coffee shops and cakes and getting out and about as a family. If we are staying somewhere with leisure facilities we will definitely go for a swim as the kids love to do that. Occasionally we would split and my son and husband may play tennis or golf whilst the girls and I will do an activity or pamper treatment. It is just nice to spend time as a family and relax and enjoy our own routine and each others company.
