This sponsored discussion is now closed - thank you to everyone who shared their stories

It’s happened to all parents, you turn your back for all of three seconds and what you see on your return shocks you - it’s difficult to comprehend how your child made that much mess! Whether it’s Sudocrem, spaghetti or paint that they’ve managed to cover themselves in, the clean up is more manageable in the comfort of your own home. Baby wipes can be an essential when out and about, but with increasing awareness around their environmental impact, it can be easy to feel guilty about their use. With this in mind and following their launch of plastic free baby wipes Aqualettes, Nice n Clean would like to hear about the biggest mess your child has made while out and about.

Here’s what Nice ‘n Clean have to say: “Kind to little ones and even kinder to the planet. Nice ‘n Clean Aqualettes are truly environmentally friendly baby wipes. The wipes are plastic free and made from plant based, biodegradable fibres helping to ensure a brighter future for children everywhere. Super soft and gentle, each wipe cares for delicate, new skin using a natural pre-biotic to help protect baby’s skin whilst being pH skin neutral.

Not only are they loved by mums and dads nationwide, Nice ‘n Clean Aqualettes are dermatologically tested and paediatrician approved too. As a family business, we know how precious every baby is and how important their future is too. That’s why we’ve made our wipes from biodegradable fibres and our packaging recyclable*. We think looking after little ones and their planet is a big deal. If you think so too, find out more at aqualettes.co.uk. We’d love to hear from Mumsnetters about how they look after their babies' skin whilst they’re out and about.”

What was the biggest mess your child has ever made while out and about? How did you tackle the clean up? Do you have to approach the situation differently if you’re out of the house? Do you feel guilty about using baby wipes containing plastic?

All who share their stories on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Jumping into muddy puddles that turn out to be deeper than expected

deano777 · 16/01/2020 11:13

One of my sons covered himself in head to toe with the spaghetti bolognese he was eating. He also covered the high chair and the floor.
This was done in a matter of minutes while I went to the toilet and left my husband to supervise him alone Hmm

When my middle child was still in nappy's, we woke one morning to hear him giggling from the toy room. The house was stinking so we followed the smell and the giggles. Only for us to find him dipping his hand in the nappy and then drawing on the wall with it

We went to a expensive resturant on holiday last year and AFTER ordering (but thankfully before the meals coming out) my child vomited everywhere without warning. We were in a booth style table and the manager literally had to wipe it away into a washing up bowl. It was truly hideous. We left of course as some it was also on my husband and even reached across the table to me and my other child. 30 minutes later he was prefectly fine!

Mine are drink spillers. All of them. I've lost count of the number of times a glass of water or a cup of tea has gone flying. I think we all gesticulate a lot when we're speaking. I vaguely remember a lot of exploding nappies too, but I've worked hard to excise those from my memory banks and I'm not going to dredge them up again after all these years.

Moobirch · 16/01/2020 12:02

Having read some of the stories I feel lucky. The worst my daughter ever did was vomit everywhere. Shes done it in most places, at home, the car, restaurants, I don’t know how I would have managed without wet wipes.

IonaAilidh11 · 16/01/2020 12:05

spilling ketchup everywhere is a restaurant

My youngest is at the stage where she throws everything on the floor, food, cutlery, tissues so pretty much every time we go out to eat the floors alway covered in mess..curtesy of my 3 messy ones, who are 3, 4 & 6

sophiefx · 16/01/2020 12:15

My little girl got out a tub of sudocrem from her bag whilst we were at soft play. I had nipped to the cafe counter to get us all a drink. I came back and the whole of the table and chairs was covered!!

When my nephew was little he idolised his Grandad so when we all went on a family day out to Blackpool he wanted to be a big boy & go to the public toilets with his Grandad. Paul was only three & had never used a urinal before so he was very proud of himself standing next to his Grandad. My Dad told Paul to wash his hands & Dad went over to the washbasins thinking Paul was behind him but he wasn't so Dad looked back to find Paul bending down washing his hands in the filthy urinal. Dad was horrified. Lots of washing & scrubbing went on after that and when he told us Dad eventually found it really funny

flowerpot2000 · 16/01/2020 12:31

my son was one in a theme park when he urinated and puked whilst in the buggy leaving a mess everywhere and i had limited wipes

Lindseymorris29 · 16/01/2020 12:42

The worst for me, was when my youngest being a tiny breast fed baby, joined a mum and babys club. I was holding her, waiting for my cup of tea. Then there was an explosion in the nappy department. It was all over her, me and a puddle of poop on the floor. You know which friends are keepers, when my pal said she will sort the floor and stop the toddlers running through it, while I take my baby into the toilet to clean us up I was absolutely mortified! Shock

On a train. He had a packet of chocolate button in his back pocket and it melted. He insisted on opening it and licking the chocolate. Luckily I always had flannels and wet ones to hand so I managed to prevent it spreading beyond him.

maureen3733 · 16/01/2020 13:13

unfortunately its toilet accidents and trying to clean a child up who was wearing a full on body suit.

ssam777 · 16/01/2020 13:30

once my daughter manged to drop 2 glasses of squash at the table when eating out, i cant just leave it for the waiters, so i have to have a pack of wipes to hand to tidy up a bit.

helly27 · 16/01/2020 13:49

It would have to be with ice cream when they were younger, they could never eat it fast enough in the summer before it melted

Mitcholiver · 16/01/2020 13:59

This Christmas holidays we went to the woods. Thankfully our kids were wearing their raincoats and wellys especially for my 4 year old who fell straight over head first into a puddle. He was covered head to toe in mud and soaking wet!!

glynda · 16/01/2020 14:11

My son, who was about 6 months unexpectedly had explosive diarrhea, he was literally covered from head to foot, even in his hair. We took him to the toilet and washed him off as best we could but still had a smelly two hour journey home.

mummyuk86 · 16/01/2020 14:23

My son knocked a bottle of red wine off the shelf in Tesco when having a tantrum. It smashed and went everywhere. I told a member of staff and they very kindly tired it up. It was very embarrassing though!

emmav6 · 16/01/2020 14:31

my son managed to knock over a whole tin of paint when he was a toddler, i can still see the stained floor in the shop now!!!!

BL0SS0M · 16/01/2020 14:37

Pretty much anywhere with my 2yr old as he was baby led though think the worst was spaghetti with tomato sauce! It went everywhere and stained everything

Ken1976 · 16/01/2020 14:59

On holiday in Cuba when granddaughter was 16 months. In the restaurant we had the same waiter most days and one lunchtime my daughter gave the baby a bowl of spag bol to feed to herself.
Everything was orange! The floor , the high chair and the baby included.
Mum cleaned it up with wipes but couldn't salvage the baby's summer vest so left it on the high chair.
The next day we returned to the restaurant and our waiter presented us with a gleaming white baby vest. He had taken it home and his wife had scrubbed it clean by hand ( they couldn't afford a washing machine).
Fabulous country and fabulous people.

maryandbuzz1 · 16/01/2020 15:02

Very embarrassingly our son was sick in a local Café! They were very good about it but we never went back in.

WhiteKnuckleRide · 16/01/2020 15:11

We were in an M&S cafe in a retail park when DS was 3 months old - I warmed up his bottle and was feeding him, then suddenly he projectile vomited everywhere. There was so much of it, the milk had curdled in his stomach and he was covered head to toe. He'd already had an accident earlier so I didn't have any more spare clothes. I had to leave him with MIL and run to primark to get him a cheap outfit!

emmmaaa26 · 16/01/2020 15:40

Ice cream everywhere and I mean everywhere.
