This activity has now closed

From snuggling on the sofa and watching a film, to reading your child a book before they go to bed, the home captures hundreds of small moments in day-to-day life that often bring a lot of joy. With the Christmas season coming up, it’s these kinds of moments that play an important part in the festivities, whether it be making mince pies in the kitchen, or ceremoniously putting the star on top of the tree. With this in mind, IKEA want to hear your favourite family moments in the home, and what makes them special.

Here’s what IKEA have to say:
“Incorporating playful elements into any room creates an inviting space for a whole host of indoor activities. Whether you’re a kid – or a kid at heart – it’s easy to turn your living room into a place for lighthearted fun! Whatever space you have to play with, planning a space where children are free to express themselves boosts their confidence.
Read your favourite book on the sofa, while the rest of the group turns dining room chairs into a game of musical chairs. Or, turn display cushions into an impromptu pillow fight. Simply add matching seating for kids and adults, then the little ones get to imitate grown-ups. Role play is great for developing their social skills. Who wouldn’t feel twenty years older sitting enjoying a cup of tea in a POÄNG chair?”

What are or have been some of your favourite family moments in the home? How have these changed as your children have grown older? Which rooms in your house remind you of the fond memories you’ve created in them? With the winter months closing in, which Christmas traditions in the home do you do as a family - and which are you most looking forward to? Perhaps you have a favourite festive film you watch every year without fail?

However big or small, share your favourite family moments in the home with IKEA on the thread below, and you will be entered into a prize draw where 1 MNer will win a £300 IKEA voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Snuggling and giggling!

GooodMythicalMorning · 09/11/2019 14:08

Christmas is always my favourite, giving gifts, snuggled up to each other in the warm, christmas music playing and lots of snacks. kids playing with their new things and the adults chatting. Dh and I cook together and make it fun. The dog eating wrapping paper and the boxes. brilliant.

I like activities where we can sit together and have quality time, making cards or baking cakes with no TV or tablets to interrupt us!

icklemonster · 09/11/2019 14:53

All snuggling up watching a family film with some snacks!

Elizasmum02 · 09/11/2019 15:03

My favourite moment every day is when my daughter comes to say goodnight, it's stayed the same even as she has become a teenager. We're always in the living room, we have big hugs and say we all hope we sleep well and say we love each other. Simple, but perfect.

yoeydavis · 09/11/2019 16:02

My first Grandchild has just been born. My daughter lives alone, and had a traumatic birth, so, I stayed with her for 10 days after the birth. It was great; just the three of us. He's a really good baby, so we could sit and watch tv in the evenings and just enjoy being together. Xmas this year will be extra special too.

ThemisA · 09/11/2019 16:09

My favourite family time is snuggling on the sofa with a hot chocolate and reading to my children. We like cooking together too.

rachelmccraith · 09/11/2019 16:21

We love friday night movie time. We make some popcorn, and all get settled under blankets.

bubbleybooboo · 09/11/2019 16:22

one of my fave family memories in our house when we were little was on a sunday. it would be family day. mum would cook a roast dinner after we had eaten, get ready for bed and watch a family movie together in our pjs. its something i try to do every week with my own children too along with family game days and we play different board games. it takes everyone away from social media, video games and tv screens for a while. we have so much fun

ricola1 · 09/11/2019 16:25

Pajama days are the best spent at home. Hilling together and doing nothing!

compy99 · 09/11/2019 16:26

The best moments are when we are all together, doing nothing more than chatting about our day and any and everything else. Always seems a precious time, just enjoying each other’s company, no distractions just conversation.

Mitcholiver · 09/11/2019 16:55

If we have a really busy day it's cold outside and we are all a little tired and happy to curl up on the sofa and watch a family film eating some popcorn!

Napmum · 09/11/2019 17:14

Cuddling my new born baby in an easy chair. Now he's a toddler and likes to sit in this chair on his own to watch TV and eat a snack!

KatrinaJH · 09/11/2019 17:28

Ah, baking with the DC and the gargantuan task of cleaning up afterwards!

cathwarbur · 09/11/2019 17:31

Love Chistmas time with the family. we are together, enjoy the time spent with each other and help each other out

jamiethepaper · 09/11/2019 17:34

the simple things like going for walks in nature or snuggling on the sofa watching some terrible childrens show. It's not about what you do, but who you do it with!

ribbo69 · 09/11/2019 17:46

Christmas Day lunch followed by opening presents with my family.

kasperc0mps · 09/11/2019 18:14

Friday night where there's dinner on the table, and we can all cuddle up with a book by candlelight

twinklenicci · 09/11/2019 18:15

board games nights were always fun .... we also have film nights which my older children enjoyed the most

maryandbuzz1 · 09/11/2019 18:27

We all love snuggling on the sofa with the wood burner lit. Love watching an old film wrapped in a throw and drinking hot chocolate!

footdust · 09/11/2019 18:33

Cuddles and popcorn while watching a movie.

Tom92 · 09/11/2019 18:38

Probably not what most people would choose, but I like when my daughter is ill. She's not the cuddliest of children, she prefers play fighting and running around like a lunatic. But when she's a little under the weather she doesn't want anything other than to cuddle up on the sofa and have her hair stroked, all wrapped up in a blanket watching which ever terrible kids show she likes at the time.

jhocknull · 09/11/2019 18:41

Being together playing an old fashioned board game together creates lots of laughter. Or cooking a family meal where everyone chips in with some help.
