This activity has now closed

From snuggling on the sofa and watching a film, to reading your child a book before they go to bed, the home captures hundreds of small moments in day-to-day life that often bring a lot of joy. With the Christmas season coming up, it’s these kinds of moments that play an important part in the festivities, whether it be making mince pies in the kitchen, or ceremoniously putting the star on top of the tree. With this in mind, IKEA want to hear your favourite family moments in the home, and what makes them special.

Here’s what IKEA have to say:
“Incorporating playful elements into any room creates an inviting space for a whole host of indoor activities. Whether you’re a kid – or a kid at heart – it’s easy to turn your living room into a place for lighthearted fun! Whatever space you have to play with, planning a space where children are free to express themselves boosts their confidence.
Read your favourite book on the sofa, while the rest of the group turns dining room chairs into a game of musical chairs. Or, turn display cushions into an impromptu pillow fight. Simply add matching seating for kids and adults, then the little ones get to imitate grown-ups. Role play is great for developing their social skills. Who wouldn’t feel twenty years older sitting enjoying a cup of tea in a POÄNG chair?”

What are or have been some of your favourite family moments in the home? How have these changed as your children have grown older? Which rooms in your house remind you of the fond memories you’ve created in them? With the winter months closing in, which Christmas traditions in the home do you do as a family - and which are you most looking forward to? Perhaps you have a favourite festive film you watch every year without fail?

However big or small, share your favourite family moments in the home with IKEA on the thread below, and you will be entered into a prize draw where 1 MNer will win a £300 IKEA voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

i love the family getting together to hang the christmas decorations. christmas tunes on, mulled wine and lots of nibbles. best way to start the christmas festivities and a tradition in our house.

Our lives are really busy and so to have a duvet day is a real indulgence! Luckily my daughter is now of an age where we can put on a few good horror films and eat loads of junk food which is just a real treat!

SSCRASE123 · 25/11/2019 10:54

Just love the winter evenings when we all curl up together in front of the fire and watch a film together.

Daffodil2016 · 25/11/2019 11:04

Friday evenings are the best for me. We always watch a movie together under blankets with big bowls of popcorn.

sweir1 · 25/11/2019 11:23

I like the weekends. We always try to fill them up with things to do

Nikita90 · 25/11/2019 11:23

I love celebrating my kids birthdays in our home! I have such fond memories that I will cherish forever. The happiest times.

minkeymonkeys · 25/11/2019 11:34

An evening playing board games always goes down well

ikkle87 · 25/11/2019 11:46

My son is still young and so loves nothing more than cosying up on the sofa with me and his daddy under a mound of blankets and watching films or reading books.

I'm aware that when he gets older he will prefer to spend time alone so I'm savouring every moment of having him cuddled up to me.

cazzzie987 · 25/11/2019 11:47

We all put the decorations and Christmas tree up on December 1st and then we watch Christmas films with snacks.

happysouls · 25/11/2019 11:50

When my son was young my favourite time was when we'd spend an afternoon making Christmas decorations and watching Christmas cartoons and eating too much chocolate. Just really lovely quality time for the two of us.
Now my favourite part of it all is spending Christmas Eve afternoon cooking up a huge curry from scratch that we eat over several days of Christmas. It's really good fun family time with Christmas lights everywhere and a good playlist!
We have Ikea POANG chairs! They're so comfy! We watch TV in them and we have some older ones that we carry out into the garden in summer!

lizd31 · 25/11/2019 11:50

I love family teatime when we all sit round the table & talk about our day & we love to reminisce for my Mum's sake as she has Alzheimer's so her short term memory is non existant but her long term memory is great as she tends to live in the past, bless her

sallyhartley · 25/11/2019 11:53

My favourite family moments are weekends when things are more relaxed and there is no rushing about in mornings. its time that can be spent together including a Sunday roast

maryandbuzz1 · 25/11/2019 11:54

Sitting round the dinner table on a Sunday for a roast dinner....something everyone enjoys.

jhocknull · 25/11/2019 11:58

Meal times are always fun if everyone chips in to help. Even the youngest can put the veg in the pan. It's a time to chat and laugh together and share the stories of the day.

kicking01king · 25/11/2019 12:02

I love just after bath time, when the children are rosy and smell of talcum powder in their dressing gowns. They cuddle up for a story before bed. Heart melting!

Spices001 · 25/11/2019 12:21

Definitely when me & dd are snuggled under throw, curtains closed watching a film

ladykenco · 25/11/2019 12:23

I love the times when watching a film all snuggled in a blanket, usually on a Friday night

LucyBo17 · 25/11/2019 12:23

We had a lovely movie afternoon yesterday, watching 101 Dalmations and then Cars, eating pop corn and keeping out of the rain.

Shesawinner1989 · 25/11/2019 12:43

Always winning when it comes to baking! From cookies to cakes, lots of fun and tasty treats. Yum 😀

sor5 · 25/11/2019 12:49

Making gingerbread biscuits with my dogs running around, I spilled the flour on the ground and one of the dogs just ran into it and started running around the house with floury paws.

ricola1 · 25/11/2019 12:58

Having a pj day and just playing board games. No phones allowed!

julieef · 25/11/2019 14:08

All snuggled up watching a good movie, especially a Disney one

Mitcholiver · 25/11/2019 14:32

My favourite times at home are Saturday evenings. We have a family meal together and watch strictly come dancing as a family. No one has to be up and out in the morning so we can all stay up a little later and relax and enjoy each other's company (and a sneaky glass of wine!).

sc00ter · 25/11/2019 14:35

For me its all about food and conversation, so we cook stuff together and chat in the kitchen while its cooking, then afterwards eating the food together and just chilling and around the table after our hard work.

pennwood · 25/11/2019 14:44

We always dress the Christmas tree on December 1st and do it together as a family. When our daughter was little her Daddy used to pick her up to place the fairy on top and she continued to do it as she grew tall enough to manage herself. She always makes the choice of colour theme each year. Her favourite task is filling up the Advent Calendar with chocolates from the tin we always buy, & then of course she is the one who always eats them.
