This activity has now closed

From snuggling on the sofa and watching a film, to reading your child a book before they go to bed, the home captures hundreds of small moments in day-to-day life that often bring a lot of joy. With the Christmas season coming up, it’s these kinds of moments that play an important part in the festivities, whether it be making mince pies in the kitchen, or ceremoniously putting the star on top of the tree. With this in mind, IKEA want to hear your favourite family moments in the home, and what makes them special.

Here’s what IKEA have to say:
“Incorporating playful elements into any room creates an inviting space for a whole host of indoor activities. Whether you’re a kid – or a kid at heart – it’s easy to turn your living room into a place for lighthearted fun! Whatever space you have to play with, planning a space where children are free to express themselves boosts their confidence.
Read your favourite book on the sofa, while the rest of the group turns dining room chairs into a game of musical chairs. Or, turn display cushions into an impromptu pillow fight. Simply add matching seating for kids and adults, then the little ones get to imitate grown-ups. Role play is great for developing their social skills. Who wouldn’t feel twenty years older sitting enjoying a cup of tea in a POÄNG chair?”

What are or have been some of your favourite family moments in the home? How have these changed as your children have grown older? Which rooms in your house remind you of the fond memories you’ve created in them? With the winter months closing in, which Christmas traditions in the home do you do as a family - and which are you most looking forward to? Perhaps you have a favourite festive film you watch every year without fail?

However big or small, share your favourite family moments in the home with IKEA on the thread below, and you will be entered into a prize draw where 1 MNer will win a £300 IKEA voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

we have a games evening every New YEARS Eve. I invite all y amily over and we all have a great time. The ages range between 2 and 85. We all love it!

desperatehousewife21 · 11/11/2019 21:06

You can’t beat a rainy Sunday afternoon snuggled together on the sofa watching a feel good film with tons of popcorn and sweets. It’s always my go-to for us to spend time together and having just moved house we now have our warm, clean (for now!) perfect front room ready to do just this!

Mangaroo · 11/11/2019 21:08

Snuggled up on the floor with our backs to the sofa and little one climbing onto the lap of one of us with a book. We love watching him lose himself in the book, as he explores all the pictures.

So many special times, it is difficult to choose just one. But the autum leaves remind me of the leaf prints we used to make together.

When my children were younger we used to love nothing better than cuddling up together on the sofa to read books. The kitchen was always a creative place for baking, painting and drawing. And the living room rug used to be turned into a big lake where crocodiles lived, that we had to cross without being eaten.

I love winter evenings because it's dark early so my kids stay in and with it being Christmas in a matter of wks we love to make hot chocolate put marshmallows in & sit together watching the best Christmas films & comedies. my Nanna told me a family that laughs together is happy together so we love playing twister or headbands because we end up rolling around laughing all the way through the games and inviting lots of family to our home boxing day for a buffet and games turns the whole house into a place full of laughter and love.

I love cosy Christmas stories in front of the fire!

We replenish the children's bookcase with festive books and they choose a new one every night during advent - with a hot chocolate on the side obviously!

Myr4 · 11/11/2019 22:34

Enjoying hot chocolate together on a cold/rainy day and now that some of the kids are old enough my favourite family moment would be a game of Scrabble!

ILiveInSalemsLot · 11/11/2019 22:45

My favourite times at home are when we’ve been out on a cold and wintery day and we come home to have hot soup around the dining table in the kitchen and then relax on our comfy sofas with cosy blankets to watch films.
I love our rug too when we sprawl over it to play boards games.

del2929 · 11/11/2019 23:13

fave moments include bedtime reading, messy play including slime making and squishy makeovers

DarkDarkNight · 11/11/2019 23:33

Pizza and movie night on a Friday, just unwinding from work and school.

Also my Son asking me to sleep in his bed or coming in to my room when he wakes up in the early hours. I know he won’t do this forever so I treasure it.

GingerRogers84 · 12/11/2019 00:09

Board games together and reading together! ❤️

RuleTheWorld91 · 12/11/2019 00:55

Spending Sunday mornings all together, snuggled up on the sofa working our way through the Disney classics library!

goldenretriever1978 · 12/11/2019 05:27

Definitely watching films with my children in our movie film.

VictoriaSt · 12/11/2019 06:21

Definitely Sunday breakfast! All sitting around the table and chatting 😊

Skippylane · 12/11/2019 07:42

Without a doubt my favourite family moments in the home has to be family meals together. During the week its just me and my son or daughter sharing the days events, and once a week on a Sunday it is a chaotic mishmash of chairs, crockery and cutlery, and a makeshift table, in addition to our main one, depending on how many of the family are present - used to be three generations around the table but now there are four. It is priceless

DassDass · 12/11/2019 09:59

when me, Husband and 23-month old all make time to stop what we are doing and hang out together - I love it when we all dance and sing along to You're Welcome from the Moana soundtrack

HitsAndMrs · 12/11/2019 10:11

Our family snuggled up on Sundays on the sofa watching a film, especially Christmas films. 🎄

theAntsareMyFriends · 12/11/2019 12:09

I love baking with my two when the weather is cold outside. It feels cosy and fills the room with nice smells. I've got a gingerbread recipe that I can make in the food processor - makes it easier and less messy - and the boys can then cut out the shapes. The little one eats most of the dough before it makes it to the oven. After they are cooked they get to decorate them and then we all come together to have a drink and eat one.

WatchingTVagain · 12/11/2019 12:53

As the DC are getting older, I cherish the time snuggled up all watching a family comedy, currently on our new Ektorp sofa along with our current foster cat(s) - the reason we went for the Ektorp and its washable covers!

SouthWestmom · 12/11/2019 13:28

Favourite times in the house....honestly?

We built a wall and door to separate our open plan area downstairs into three separate rooms.

I love my family so much more now we have doors that close 😂

Twitney · 12/11/2019 16:57

Dancing around the kitchen island on a Saturday morning. Brilliant times.

jandoc · 12/11/2019 17:16

As Christmas is coming up I have fond memories of my grandparents being around at this time of the year

Emmajones2517 · 12/11/2019 18:08
