Fruit is a key component of a healthy diet, and making sure your kids eat enough of it can be a challenge. It can take countless attempts to convince your child to eat some, and getting to a point where your kids don’t dismiss the idea is no mean feat. With this in mind, Nice by Nature would love to know all the different ways you get fruit into your kids’ diet, and how you encourage them to eat more of it.

Here is what Nice By Nature have to say:
“At Nice By Nature we’ve created a new range of delicious fruit ice lollies! They are made from 100% fruit and absolutely nothing else! In fact our lollies always contain:
- 4 ingredients or less
- No added sugar
- 22-24 calories
- Contributes to your five-a-day

Your kids might call them a snack or even a treat, but you can think of them as a fruit bowl in your freezer!

From talking with mums and dads, we know that it is not always easy getting the food we want into our kids' hands, let alone their tummies! We simply believe that nature has its own store cupboard, a world of wonderful ingredients in the fields, forests and orchards. The good news is that Mother Nature is happy to share!

Visit our website and follow us @nicebynatureuk to find out more!"

Have you come up with a crafty way to get your kids to eat more fruit? Have you managed to persuade your kids to see fruit as a treat? If so, do you have any techniques you could share? Or maybe this isn’t necessary and your children are already very good at eating lots of fruit?

Whatever your ways of getting your kids to eat more fruit, share them on the thread below, and feel free to add a picture or video to accompany your post - we’d love to see these!

Everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

My dd loves fruit but not so keen on vegetables (apart from carrots for some reason)
I encourage her to eat more by making faces out of the different fruits. She loves it!
She thinks of fruits as a treat if we get some that she doesn’t usually have, like pineapple and kiwi or pomegranate. They’re the ‘treat’ fruits Grin

Fruit is really lovely so easy for it to be part of life. Lots of variety and chopped up into easy to eat pieces and part of most meals or as snacks.

BL0SS0M · 10/08/2019 12:54

we've always given fruit for snack at school and it seems to have worked as she loves it! also over summer she's been making her own smoothies everyday and coming up with different recipes

joggingrunning · 10/08/2019 13:15

I think getting your children involved in the process preparing of fruit encourages them more to eat more fruit. As a family we often make fruit salads and the children get to pick and choose the fruits as well as preparing the salad itself. They have fun and get to eat some healthy food too.

TammyChernelle · 10/08/2019 15:02

There are lots of recipes that help to hide fruit and vegetables within tasty meals, but other than that presentation is key, make things fun and colourful

jessicakaren · 10/08/2019 16:16

my children love washing, peeling and chopping their own fruit and it's one of their favourite snacks so it's not difficult to get them to eat it. however when they are poorly I find making fruit lollies works a treat to keep them hydrated!

PashleyB · 10/08/2019 17:01

Keeping a stocked fruit bowl in the kitchen so this is the preferred place to go for snacks

CJPlay · 10/08/2019 19:18

My kids love fruit. They always have it as their "pudding" so to them it is a treat. They love melon, mango, pineapple, blueberries and strawberries as their pudding! They also have bananas as part of their breakfast on the weekend which is more of a treat than their usual weetabix!

LaaMoii · 10/08/2019 19:25

I always try to make the food look like a picture my child would enjoy eating, it’s a bit of extra effort but no less than the effort put into the way food looks to make it appetising for adults. I use cookie cutters shaped like hearts, stars, dinos to cut the sandwiches which is always a hit!

Nicole1709 · 10/08/2019 20:04

I find fruit to be sweet and tasty and kids usually agree. I think vegetables can be a bit more difficult but I've always loved them and luckily my kids agree too.

Treaclespongeandcustard · 11/08/2019 00:08

Mine love fruit. I have always offered it to them from very early on and they enjoy it. One of my biggest food rules is leave anything that you don’t want. I don’t think that good should be a place for arguments.

Allow choice of fruit in supermarket
Natural yoghurt flavoured with fruit
Homemade fruit smoothies
Over ripe bananas = banana bread
Fruit salad mix up
Bananas and custard
Frozen mashed banana = ice cream

DinosApple · 11/08/2019 09:27

Fruit is easy - fill the fruit bowl then tell them not to touch it - it miraculously disappears Grin.

Veg is slightly harder, but raw always goes down well. Or the colour challenge at tea time - eat something red on your plate, eat something green etc. Makes it fun for them too.

Scruffalicious · 11/08/2019 10:25

We mash fruit and freeze it in lolly molds - much like NbN! We also offer fruit as toppings for cereal, pudding, etc.

sootyo · 11/08/2019 15:19

By example , and for fun make faces out of fruit.

Blazedout · 11/08/2019 18:00

We have a fruit and veg/salad box delivered weekly with different varieties each week. The fruit gets left on the dining table for them to help themselves, the only rule is they're not allowed to eat it whilst dinner is being cooked.

vinniewalker999 · 11/08/2019 19:25

we grow a lot of our own fruit and veg and our children are encouraged to pick them and dig up the food when it is ready, they are always eager to try it because they grew it, make food fun we also make funny faces on our plates with fruit and veg.

Acidrain · 11/08/2019 19:33

Make sure fruit is accessible.
My toddler is aloud to eat fruit at any time of day and has a bowl in his cupboard which he can go and grab some when he wants just like we have a fruit bowl.

Letting them peel the fruit themselves if they can also makes them feel independent, I've found making them feel like they are making the decision also helps!

Strawberries dipped in chocolate is a massive treat in our home and he loves it!

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 11/08/2019 21:44

Fruit in the house and they are just welcome to eat it whenever they like. It's expensive compared to other snack options, but worth having.

KingaRoo · 11/08/2019 22:04

I think explaining how important it is for your health helps with my 10 and 8 yo. They know it’s not an option. Also using it as part of “treat” food is good eg apple crumble, fruit puddings etc can help.

buckley1983 · 11/08/2019 23:09

Variety is the key for us - our son can be picky about food & the fruit he likes one week, he won't like the next.
We mix up the fruit on offer by making the most of the deals at Aldi, Lidl or Tesco which offer a range fruit at really low prices (usually 50p ish)- donut peaches, nectarines, etc - they also change the offers each week which really helps!
Our son also likes being involved in prepping food so making a fruit salad with him always has a positive effect on his fruit consumption.
I also don't limit the fruit he has - the fruit bowl is always out & he can help himself.

farhanac · 12/08/2019 11:48

Fruit salad disguised with custard always goes down well

myusername12345 · 12/08/2019 14:01

We love eating fruit, and this is what is given as snacks. My daughter also helps to write shopping lists and choose what fruit she would like from the market.

novadragon84 · 12/08/2019 19:13

Smoothies work wonders for getting fruit into our child's diet

RiSo · 12/08/2019 22:01

My 3 boys have all eaten fresh fruit for breakfast since their weaning days. We did Baby Led Weaning so fruit was nice and easy for them to handle and obviously nice to taste, and they have continued to enjoy fruit for breakfast even now at 9, 8 and 5. They also snack on fruit through the day as we always have a fruit bowl with a variety of fruits in, getting them to stop eating so much is more of a problem for me!
