Fruit is a key component of a healthy diet, and making sure your kids eat enough of it can be a challenge. It can take countless attempts to convince your child to eat some, and getting to a point where your kids don’t dismiss the idea is no mean feat. With this in mind, Nice by Nature would love to know all the different ways you get fruit into your kids’ diet, and how you encourage them to eat more of it.

Here is what Nice By Nature have to say:
“At Nice By Nature we’ve created a new range of delicious fruit ice lollies! They are made from 100% fruit and absolutely nothing else! In fact our lollies always contain:
- 4 ingredients or less
- No added sugar
- 22-24 calories
- Contributes to your five-a-day

Your kids might call them a snack or even a treat, but you can think of them as a fruit bowl in your freezer!

From talking with mums and dads, we know that it is not always easy getting the food we want into our kids' hands, let alone their tummies! We simply believe that nature has its own store cupboard, a world of wonderful ingredients in the fields, forests and orchards. The good news is that Mother Nature is happy to share!

Visit our website and follow us @nicebynatureuk to find out more!"

Have you come up with a crafty way to get your kids to eat more fruit? Have you managed to persuade your kids to see fruit as a treat? If so, do you have any techniques you could share? Or maybe this isn’t necessary and your children are already very good at eating lots of fruit?

Whatever your ways of getting your kids to eat more fruit, share them on the thread below, and feel free to add a picture or video to accompany your post - we’d love to see these!

Everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

my ds is a very fussy eater and by taking turns with him in a game of funny faces will eat strawberries and slices of apples but no other fruit

Don't have unhealthy snacks in the house

JulieAlderson · 19/08/2019 01:21

I use a Vitamix, and you can sneak some fruit or vegetables into anything you make in it!

I'm very lucky that my kids love fruit and vegetables. I buy a good selection of fruit and cut it up and peel it for them so that they eat it properly otherwise sometimes the youngest ones find the apple skins a bit hard and waxy. I try to get a good selection of different fruits so that they have apple, banana, grapes (sliced), strawberries, Kiwi, blueberries etc. They also like raisins which is another way of getting them to eat something healthy.

I have bought some ice lolly moulds, the kids pick out some fruit combinations, we chop them up, and put into the moulds, and they cannot wait to try them once they have frozen, I've got them to eat Kiwis, Pineapple, Melon, all sorts of berries too, the kind of things they've turned their little noses up on other occasions! Banana, Honey, nuts, a dash of Cocoa powder makes a wicked frozen treat!

Never had a problem with fruit as it was always an afters in our household and you only got that if you ate your first course so fruit was a treat! Occasionally if the fruit was a little sour we may add a bit of sugar but that was a real and rare treat.

Never really had a problem with fruit, but offering a banana or apple cut into bit size pieces is a great alternative to an unhealthy snack from the cupboard

potofdreams4 · 19/08/2019 19:54

I've never had trouble getting my 2 children to eat fruit but we encourage it daily with smoothies, bananas on porridge, red berries and yoghurt, apples for snacks, etc. They love to choose a free fruit to eat on the way around the supermarket too - thanks Tesco!

Provide a selection of fruit that they like and introduce new ones without making a big deal about it

getting the kids in the kitchen

hannahlw85 · 19/08/2019 21:40

Thankfully I have no issues getting them to eat fruit, I just cut up a selection into finger nibble type size, put it all in a bowl for each and they pick away.

Jocelynne123 · 19/08/2019 22:10

I don't have any tips because my daughter has always loved fruit. I have always ate fruit and she has grown up having lots. We do have a wide variety in the house so she can pick what she wants. She still obviously loves and gets sweets but she knows they are treats and fruit is just as yummy. Xx

phillw · 19/08/2019 23:28

Smoothies are always an easy way, especially as you can drop the odd vegetable in there too.

CatCatDog · 19/08/2019 23:40

Fruit kebabs seem to be more popular than a fruit salad even if it's the same stuff! Wink

GetKnitted · 20/08/2019 23:31

So long as the fruit is cutted up we're all good, even now we're well past the toddler stage

purpleclaire · 21/08/2019 09:01

My children eat fruit in their packed lunches but need to be encouraged to eat it as a snack, as they always want to have a biscuit instead... I know there will be people who say I shouldn't buy biscuits, but I do. They do love apples, pears and sometimes bananas, but are much more likely to eat them if I cut them up for them. I will put strawberries and raspberries with ice cream for pudding and often make banana bread with those overripe bananas...and it never lasts long in our house.

Toadsrevisited · 22/08/2019 20:38

Growing our own fruit and veg, picking it, making recipes and jams and chutneys helps my kids see fruit and vegetables as part of a healthy normal life.

Missymare · 22/08/2019 22:13

We freeze over ripe bananas so they don’t get wasted then blitz them in a blender with milk to make banana milkshake as it thickens up really well or with other fruits and a bit of juice to make smoothies.

My kids love fruit so I do not need to encourage them in any way. I think introducing a wide variety of fruit from a young age has been key.
