Everyone needs a little boost now and then. We all have those frantically busy days - whether at work, at home taking care of the kids or just rushing around trying to keep all those proverbial plates spinning – and it’s easy to forget how to keep yourself well nourished and energised. Not only can making better nutritional choices help keep you energised, but also little emotional boosts such as listening to your favourite song can also have a huge effect on how we handle life’s demands and whatever the day throws at us! With that in mind Nairn’s would really like to know what gives you an energy boost?

Here’s what Nairn’s have to say: “Nairn’s are all about ‘grabbing life by the oats’ and over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you some exclusive, energising tips - we’d like to think it’s a pretty good fit considering just how naturally energising oats can be for you. You’ll find interviews with our inspiring and energetic ambassadors, expert advice from our resident nutritional therapist and loads more over on our website.

So, if you’ve got a go-to snack or energising habit that you swear by to keep you up and running, why not share it with the community? You could be lucky enough to win a hamper of incredible goodies from Nairn’s and friends, worth £150!”

What part of the day are you most likely to feel the need for an energy boost? What are the danger signs that your child’s energy is flagging? What foods or snacks do you give them to stop them getting ‘hangry’?! Do you get an energy boost from having a bit of family time? Maybe you get a boost from listening to your favourite playlist on your way to work? Would you say that exercise is what helps give you a boost? And if so what snacks do you eat to make sure you keep your energy going after exercise? What are your favourite breakfasts and lunches that help keep you going for the day? And what foods do you avoid that make you ‘crash’? How do you incorporate oats into your diet?

Whatever gives you an energy boost, share them on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a Nairn’s hamper worth £150 and one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I chop chunks of fresh cold carrots, with a side dish of walnuts and glass of milk.....

Blainalass · 16/05/2019 20:45

Getting moving!

Annak789 · 16/05/2019 20:49

A strong cup of coffee and a quick nap straight after always make me very energised

sm2012 · 16/05/2019 20:51

Nuts and bananas give me a energy boost as well as doing a bit of exercise :)

JeanieJardine55 · 16/05/2019 21:08

I find going for a swim gives me an energy boost and I’m much less tired for the rest of the day.

patchysmum · 16/05/2019 21:24

Always have porridge for breakfast with added fruit. If I am flagging in the afternoon I have coffee and a banana and play some music to help me get through the housework

daisyduke66 · 16/05/2019 22:18

Porridge for morning - slow release energy in oats also keeps hunger pangs at bay :) other snacks fruit and also crackers/oatcakes with cheese/grapes in evening. Generally try to avoid sugar laden snacks.

Anj123 · 16/05/2019 22:19

Mid afternoon is when I need an energy boost. Going for a walk and listening to upbeat music helps.

I've recently committed to giving up sugar & am always on the lookout for tasty snacks to keep my energy levels up. My current favourite is a little platter of carrot & cucumber sticks, houmous & a pack of Nairn's Seeded Oatcakes - delish & guilt-free! :)

Jedeye · 16/05/2019 23:04

For breakfast I have a good layer of dry oats, with plenty of low fat Greek yoghurt on top, a layer of fruit and a sprinkling of nuts and seeds. Honestly keeps me going all morning and it’s yummy.

A banana is my go to for a boost, or if it’s the afternoon then chocolate.. Shame as it all starts so well Grin

Lleeaahh1992 · 16/05/2019 23:24

Bananas are my top pick, yogurt with oats mixed in it and also rice cakes with dairy Lea light triangles are my go to energy boosting snack's , oh and belvita breckfast biscuits too.

beethebee · 17/05/2019 03:46

I drive between clients a lot for work so I stick on some cheesy boppy music. And always have a flask of water with me. I keep single serve trail mix packets in the glove box and nab one for lunch when I'm flat out.

libra101 · 17/05/2019 05:59

It's about lunchtime that I need an energy boost. I generally enjoy a salad and smoothie, freshly prepared full of healthy ingredients such as berries, apples, oranges, whatever is available. These seem to give me a lift to keeping busy in the afternoons.

JulesJules · 17/05/2019 06:27

Overnight oats are my favourite breakfast to make sure I don't need a boost by mid morning. I use oats, sem iskimmed milk, Greek yoghurt, frozen fruit (usually raspberries or summer fruit mix) and a dash of maple syrup.

I love oaties - I have one or two with cheese for a snack mid afternoon.
My daughter takes them to school with cheese, carrot sticks and hummus.

devito92 · 17/05/2019 07:06

I always take a shower when i need an energy boost.refresh your body and mind

dadshere · 17/05/2019 07:17

Fresh fruit! A nice bowl of cut fruit like pinapple and apple with mango!

Bigsighall · 17/05/2019 07:40

The Nairn cakes with chocolate chip yum!

misskatamari · 17/05/2019 08:15

Avoiding sugar is a big help in avoiding huge energy dips. Healthy snacks like oat cakes and a bit of peanut butter/cheese give me a boost too. Also getting outside for a walk, doing some exercise, or listening to some upbeat songs. I've started taking an iron supplement tonic as well which I'm hoping will help give me an energy boost as well lol!

ThenBellaDidSomethingVeryKind · 17/05/2019 09:27

Exercise gives me a bit of get up and go - despite my often feeling like I can’t be bothered beforehand. There’s definitely a pay-off! I like to snack on things like a couple of oatcakes / Ryvita with hummous or cheese as they satiate without being too calorific.

sunshinestanley · 17/05/2019 09:59

I usually slump around 3ish but a walk to school usually perks me up. If I'm feeling tired during the day I make a snack, a cuppa and find a slice of sunshine somewhere to take a break. I love oatcakes, usually with hummus and a sliced gherkin, or cottage cheese and shredded beetroot.

babyowl · 17/05/2019 10:15

Grapes - serve the purpose as refreshing, hydrating & a sugar boost after school, sports or on a day out. Also doesn't easily turn into mush after being rattled around by me or the kids.

Homemade biscuits or oaty snacks with cranberries as mine don't like raisins.

Carrot sticks & mini-tomatoes or blueberries sometimes for me snacking at work, but depends on how healthy I am feeling.

BL0SS0M · 17/05/2019 10:25

Exercise and some oatcakes with cottage cheese and tomatoes

Cashy17 · 17/05/2019 11:29

a walk with the dog does it for me, i always find some exercise always helps and the dog doesn't talk back to me!! Plenty of fruit and veg is always a good boost as well.
