Everyone needs a little boost now and then. We all have those frantically busy days - whether at work, at home taking care of the kids or just rushing around trying to keep all those proverbial plates spinning – and it’s easy to forget how to keep yourself well nourished and energised. Not only can making better nutritional choices help keep you energised, but also little emotional boosts such as listening to your favourite song can also have a huge effect on how we handle life’s demands and whatever the day throws at us! With that in mind Nairn’s would really like to know what gives you an energy boost?

Here’s what Nairn’s have to say: “Nairn’s are all about ‘grabbing life by the oats’ and over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you some exclusive, energising tips - we’d like to think it’s a pretty good fit considering just how naturally energising oats can be for you. You’ll find interviews with our inspiring and energetic ambassadors, expert advice from our resident nutritional therapist and loads more over on our website.

So, if you’ve got a go-to snack or energising habit that you swear by to keep you up and running, why not share it with the community? You could be lucky enough to win a hamper of incredible goodies from Nairn’s and friends, worth £150!”

What part of the day are you most likely to feel the need for an energy boost? What are the danger signs that your child’s energy is flagging? What foods or snacks do you give them to stop them getting ‘hangry’?! Do you get an energy boost from having a bit of family time? Maybe you get a boost from listening to your favourite playlist on your way to work? Would you say that exercise is what helps give you a boost? And if so what snacks do you eat to make sure you keep your energy going after exercise? What are your favourite breakfasts and lunches that help keep you going for the day? And what foods do you avoid that make you ‘crash’? How do you incorporate oats into your diet?

Whatever gives you an energy boost, share them on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a Nairn’s hamper worth £150 and one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Food aside, I always find that I have much more energy when I'm in a warmer and sunnier climate, so I can confirm that the sunshine (or lack of) and vitamin D link is a definite issue for me. So any sunshine I can grab does help.

In terms of food, a few walnuts is usually great to keep me going. Another favourite is chia pudding made with almond milk and desicated coconut, but that's when I have a little more time. Nuts are the convenient choice.

For my son, who's 5, I always have fruit and nut bars, like Nakd bars handy. He also loves sunflower seeds and Emily's vegetable crisps or peanut butter on a cracker or oatcake.

Finding a quiet moment in the day to clear my mind and sit down in silence with a mug of peppermint tea and something like a banana or oatcakes and hummus seems to rejuvenate me and set me up to get going again.

I really like getting out for an energising walk, that always gives me more energy...then back in for a cup of tea and Nairn's fine milled oatcakes topped with avocado slices and a sprinkling of ground black pepper (yum)

To combat my afternoon energy slump I have oatcakes with marmite or a little bit of half fat cheese. Then I get Alexa to play some dance music - it wakes me up!

A walk outdoors, a blast from a CD & managing to finish a task I've set myself for once...

A yogurt or a mini babybel and a diet coke

Plenty of sleep even no that’s not much with a 20 month old toddler and my muesli with fruit and a long walk with the baby in the pram

Fruit and fat free yogurt puts a spring in my step. If I have any tedious tasks to do around the house my trusty ipod makes them easier to tackle.

Balanced diet and doing regular exercise

I need a cup of tea first thing or I simply can't function.
I do find porridge for breakfast keeps me going much longer than cereal or toast, though I confess my favourite form of oats is in flapjack, which isn't the healthiest...

I do find myself flagging at points throughout the day (especially in the afternoons. Or a pre-lunchtime dip if I didn't have an adequate breakfast) especially at the moment- talk about second trimester appetite! I always try to keep fruit, nuts and healthier snacks on hand to stop me reaching for the biscuits (coz it is so easy right now to demolish the entire packet!). I can kid myself with oatcakes and rice cakes, so I feel I've had a little treat without the guilt.

I also need to get myself up and moving- a brisk walk can transform not only my energy levels but my whole mood as well, particularly with all this gorgeous sunshine at the moment! It's great to get out into the fresh air and admire the changing season

Marg2k8 · 16/05/2019 20:31

a cup of coffee

SSCRASE123 · 16/05/2019 20:36

Knowing that I'm going home to see my wife and kids gives me all the energy I need to get through the day.

Samah09 · 16/05/2019 20:39

Exercise seems to give an energy boost. otherwise a latte or some dried fruit such as figs and dates.
