This activity has now closed

We all have memories etched on our minds of the happy times we spent as children - before we grew up and had to start adulting. Summer days filled with light, joy and carefree fun. Maybe for you it was long afternoons playing in the back street, and the sound of the ice cream van, or perhaps it was a visit to the seaside where you spent happy hours building a sandcastle or discovering crabs in rock pools. It's these kind of memories that make childhood special, and perhaps now that you're a parent you're planning to re-create them for your own family. If so, Kinder Ice Cream would like you to share your memories and inspire others.

Here’s what Kinder Ice Cream have to say: "KINDER is now entering the world of ice cream, bringing to KINDER fans the care-free, summer feeling that ice cream stirs up, together with three tasty treats, for families to choose from – the delicious KINDER Ice Cream Stick, the convenient KINDER Ice Cream Sandwich and the iconic KINDER Joy Ice Cream."

What are the memories that stick in your mind and have a special meaning? What are the things your parents did that you'd like to do with your children? Maybe you built a kite with your mum and then took it to the park and watched it soar! Perhaps you remember your first trip to the cinema and the smell of popcorn and ice cream? Did you build a fort out of cardboard boxes in the garden with your dad and then take great pleasure in smashing it to bits?

If you have a favourite summer memory you'd like to re-create for your children, share it on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Playing outside until it was dark

I remember going to the woods with our whole extended family, there was 12 of us in total.
We’d wear our oldest clothes and get so dirty.
We’d help each other jump the streams and take it in turns to have a go on the rope swing that had been left deep in the woods, even my Nan would have a go!

Spending summer with my grandparents in their house in a village in Italy. They have both passed on now, so the best I can do is with my parents.

Feeding the ducks! We did this all the time as children and it's honestly my fondest memory.

mccattack111 · 01/04/2019 21:47

Literally HOURS of fun with my sister by playing with the sprinkler on the lawn. It only had 4 settings but it was the most fun trying to dodge the water jets!

RACHELSMITH45 · 01/04/2019 22:10

Family cycling trips, park picnics and camping! I'd love to do these things with my children

We're recreating one next week as we're taking the DD fossil hunting in Dorset which I did many times as a child.

We lived in the country so there was always a lot of places to go exploring. We used to pack up some sandwiches and drinks and head off through the fields or up the lane to the woods, basically wherever we fancied going that day. Such simple days can be the most special

building a sand dam around us at the bottom of sea wall on the beach as the tide comes in to keep the sea out, constantly trying to rebuild the wall to keep our patch of sand dry, but the incoming tide always won. This is what me and my siblings did on days out to the beach.

I remember vividly my very first knicker bocker glory, bought after a glorious day at Kirkcaldy links market and I can't wait until my two DC's are old enough to do this.

I remember going to Hong Kong when I was 10 with my sister to stay with family. It was a really great summer, a massive culture shock, but looking back now it was so much fun and so many new experiences.

Summers spent with my brother and sisters and cousins, being carefree and being allowed to go to the local park in a big group until it started to turn dark as long as we all stuck together, Not sure this will ever happen for her though as she is the oldest child in the family by quite a big gap and I wouldn't trust her to go to any park nearby without adult supervision as it is just not safe anymore. Such a shame it's like this nowadays

I think one of the things i regret is living in the flat so not having a garden! I had great fun playing in the paddling pool and playing balls games outside. I take him to his grandparents as often as possible so we can do these things but it would be great if we could do them at home.

mollymoo818 · 02/04/2019 09:17

We once went camping in France and I can just remember loving it so much. The long hot days on the beach and all the exploring of the local countryside. I would love to recreate that feeling with my kids.

Holidays in Wales in a caravan

finleypop · 02/04/2019 11:18

I would love my son to experience long summer days of making his own entertainment & fun. I never had a problem filling every moment with fun & adventure with no electronics in sight

devito92 · 02/04/2019 11:21

We used to go crabbing, exploring the rock pools and finding all kinds of sea creations. We spent hours and hours looking. We plan to go to the caravan park where I used to go all them years ago

juju3 · 02/04/2019 11:38

Will try to recreate some of the simpler pleasures in life - which was all we could afford - try to get them away from the Xbox TV etc.

Cismyfatarse1 · 02/04/2019 11:42

I grew up overseas but we had family holidays in the UK and they were very typical Devon beach holidays with the freedom to roam and wander. Ice cream at the end of the day (topped with clotted cream - amazing) and sandwiches full of sand (but absolutely no witches - my mother used to confirm). My own children are growing up next to the sea and have similar freedoms - the only difference is this is Scotland so the balmy, sunshine filled days of my Devon childhood require a much more robust constitution - and a wetsuit.

blue25 · 02/04/2019 14:15

My mum picking us up after school and taking us to the beach for a couple of hours. Loved it-we felt so free

sophiefx · 02/04/2019 14:24

Trips to the beach as I have always lived by the seaside! I used to love building sandcastles :)

MrsRix32 · 02/04/2019 14:41

Having friends over for sleepovers with snacks and movies - staying up until the sunrises and being ridiculously tired the next day! Can't beat the memories of the laughter we shared.

BL0SS0M · 02/04/2019 15:00

Having a bbq on the beach with the family on the sunniest day of the year! Pure bliss
