We all have memories etched on our minds of the happy times we spent as children - before we grew up and had to start adulting. Summer days filled with light, joy and carefree fun. Maybe for you it was long afternoons playing in the back street, and the sound of the ice cream van, or perhaps it was a visit to the seaside where you spent happy hours building a sandcastle or discovering crabs in rock pools. It's these kind of memories that make childhood special, and perhaps now that you're a parent you're planning to re-create them for your own family. If so, Kinder Ice Cream would like you to share your memories and inspire others.

Here’s what Kinder Ice Cream have to say: "KINDER is now entering the world of ice cream, bringing to KINDER fans the care-free, summer feeling that ice cream stirs up, together with three tasty treats, for families to choose from – the delicious KINDER Ice Cream Stick, the convenient KINDER Ice Cream Sandwich and the iconic KINDER Joy Ice Cream."

What are the memories that stick in your mind and have a special meaning? What are the things your parents did that you'd like to do with your children? Maybe you built a kite with your mum and then took it to the park and watched it soar! Perhaps you remember your first trip to the cinema and the smell of popcorn and ice cream? Did you build a fort out of cardboard boxes in the garden with your dad and then take great pleasure in smashing it to bits?

If you have a favourite summer memory you'd like to re-create for your children, share it on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

summers spent in the caravan by the river or the sea, wherever my dad decided we were going to go that year. It was always an adventure and we went with another family so there were lots of games we could play and new places to explore together!

Exploring the woods and making dens in the morning, home for lunch, back out playing with friends and then a sleepover camped out in the garden. Summer holidays were always great fun and rarely spent inside.

Pick your own farms - especially eating as many as you pay for!

Going to a theme park or the beach on the bus with all my extended family. It was an annual bus trip arranged for the family of bus drivers, and my uncle, being the bus driver invited us all.

I always used to head to the local park to play hide and seek with my cousins when I was little. I'll be taking my daughter and her friends to do the same when she's a bit older :)

Paddling in a shallow river on smooth stones with my dress tucked into my knickers!

The yearly visit to Weston Super Mare - donkey rides, paddling in the sea, building sandcastles, cracking open hard boiled eggs and sprinkling them with salt and pepper and eating 99 ice cream cones.

Running through the orchard to get the apples from the tree! Fond memories of that, and finding gooseberries on the bush without been caught

Marg2k8 · 02/04/2019 22:52

Caravan holidays at the seaside, cycle rides, picnics.

Exploring the coastline in kayaks

We had a caravan in Wales when I was a child, and would spend almost every weekend there from April to September, plus virtually the whole of the summer holiday. It was idyllic, I would roam around the site with other kids holidaying there, we'd go to the beach, climb the local mountain, go to the camp shop for Pez sweets, the onsite chippy for cans of Lilt, or the café for a knickerbocker glory. Such simple pleasures but I really wish my kids could experience the same things - these days there's no way I'd allow them on the beach unaccompanied, even if we had a caravan! We go to the same place on day trips now but although I get all misty eyed and nostalgic, it's just not the same...

jandoc · 03/04/2019 20:29

having the beach nearby would be fabulous for the kids

Lisapaige24 · 03/04/2019 23:04

Going to the caravan for the six weeks holidays with my grandparents and mum now we can since my parents have now bought one so we go this summer with them

I always thought my childhood was bad but as I grew up I realised it just gets worse.. I'm sure they'll enjoy my wisdom!

I used to love childhood beachside holidays in Northumberland when the whole family would get together for a fun filled fortnight.

Playing Kirby!! Waiting to hear the ice cream mans tune. Oh the good old days 😀🍦

SillyMoomin · 04/04/2019 15:02

Playing pooh sticks in the forest. Simple things, but such fun

phillie1 · 04/04/2019 15:04

me and my best friend at junior school going for bike rides, taking a picnic, and being outside all day on own. Wouldnt dream of letting my kids, even as teenagers doing that, without checking in numerous times by text

CopperPan · 04/04/2019 20:18

Building huge sand sculptures of cars and boats on the beach, and playing games in them with my sisters. Collecting shrimp in rockpools and watching them swim and wriggle before setting them free. Running down sand dunes as fast as we could.

kittykomp · 04/04/2019 21:13

sunny days on the beach

My parents got us a pool in the garden - this was the 1970s and first off it was a corrugated metal thing and later a wooden lined structure. We weren't rich or with a huge garden, but it was brilliant to have.
When me and DH had children we got a pool for the garden - takes up most of the garden but it's huge fun in the summer. It's usually up from May to September - DC are 12 and 10 and we've had pools since they were babies. Absolutely love watching them and their friends playing.

The searing hot summer of 76 springs to mind. Running around as kids on partched brown grass. Global warming should bring that back soon enough.

cheryl100 · 05/04/2019 09:26

I used to walk with my late Grandma down a specific route through the countryside, alongside the river and finally through the cemetary. I re-created this with my son last year by setting off walking from my Grandma's old house. I just love to reminisce about my childhood and wish I would have appreciated how special it was at the time

Family games of rounders in the field.
