This activity has now closed

We all have memories etched on our minds of the happy times we spent as children - before we grew up and had to start adulting. Summer days filled with light, joy and carefree fun. Maybe for you it was long afternoons playing in the back street, and the sound of the ice cream van, or perhaps it was a visit to the seaside where you spent happy hours building a sandcastle or discovering crabs in rock pools. It's these kind of memories that make childhood special, and perhaps now that you're a parent you're planning to re-create them for your own family. If so, Kinder Ice Cream would like you to share your memories and inspire others.

Here’s what Kinder Ice Cream have to say: "KINDER is now entering the world of ice cream, bringing to KINDER fans the care-free, summer feeling that ice cream stirs up, together with three tasty treats, for families to choose from – the delicious KINDER Ice Cream Stick, the convenient KINDER Ice Cream Sandwich and the iconic KINDER Joy Ice Cream."

What are the memories that stick in your mind and have a special meaning? What are the things your parents did that you'd like to do with your children? Maybe you built a kite with your mum and then took it to the park and watched it soar! Perhaps you remember your first trip to the cinema and the smell of popcorn and ice cream? Did you build a fort out of cardboard boxes in the garden with your dad and then take great pleasure in smashing it to bits?

If you have a favourite summer memory you'd like to re-create for your children, share it on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Being taken to Great Yarmouth by grandparents - sitting by the sea with a candyfloss in one hand and toffee apple in the other - Norfolk Bliss!

Playing outside for hours, being with friends, riding our bikes. Lots of time to just have freedom and fun.

amyhalliday1 · 01/04/2019 14:36

All the kids on the back streets playing in the hot summer evenings x

An unplanned day at the beach. Just waking up and realising its one of the hottest days of the year and deciding to travel to the nearest beach for a day in the sun, packing up an impromptu picnic and making the most of the weather while it lasts.

Summer holidays in Scarborough 50 years ago - a very different place from now (though the miniature railway from Peasholm Park is still there)

Trip to the zoo, ice-cream and picnic.

It was a lovely summer, a picnic near the river, quite isolated, stripped off our clothes under a bath towel and swam in the clean river, it was glorious!

Having the freedom to go out with your mates to all these cool places. I don't feel its safe enough now for kids to do that and so they live a more sheltered life. I loved being free as a child.

My beset memory of childhood is when I was 11 and spent most of the summer in the park in my street hanging around on money bars with my friends. we'd make up songs and dance routines. I have made sure my DD has lots of friends by putting the time in to playdates since she was young so that she will always have someone around to hang around the park with :)

Going back every summer to the same cottage, same beaches, sdame restaurants....familiarity was key to our summers.

Painting with hands and feet in the garden, I used to love this in the summer! My mam would roll out long sheets of paper and fill up tubs of different colour paint, me and my brother would run round for hours covering ourselves in paint and rolling around the paper. I would love for my dd's to do this!

That glorious feeling of breaking up for summer, endless weeks of freedom ahead. Out on our bikes with all the kids from our neighbourhood, camping, the light evenings. I don’t think it can ever be recreated in adulthood.

When I was younger I played out everyday with the kids who lived on my street! I'd love for my DD to play the games I played, such as skipping, British Bulldog & Kerby!

There wasn't much money, but we always managed to have a week or two at Blackpool. The accommodation was very basic, but we didn't notice, we were just so happy to be at the beach. We've taken our kids away to Blackpool and other holiday resorts and they've loved it.

Favourite memory as a child, going blackberry picking in the Surrey Downs with my nan and mum. Great exercise, always an ice cream and a lovely feeling of fresh air and excitement. Picnic always for lunch and at the end a happy memory and play with my aunts dog

Every summer the travelling fair would come to our town and we would all go as a family. x

Rachdayan · 01/04/2019 20:03

Long summer days with the paddling pool out in the back garden, splashing around and playing with the garden toys while mum relaxes of the recliner and dad is stoking up the bbq.

Ikea1234 · 01/04/2019 20:16

It would be long summer bike rides through the forest and lazing in the garden with a book. We manage this quite frequently!

Lydiag1 · 01/04/2019 20:32

We used to pack up the car and go caravaning in Aberystwyth when the old school toilet blocks still exsisted 😩 but even so it was magical we used to go rockpooling for hours ,have fish and chips in newspaper bags , and wait for the pip man to drive past and we would all run out and get our fizzy pop and milk etc off the back of his truck , absolutely wonderful memories I would love to recreate with my babas

jitterbugintomybrain · 01/04/2019 20:32

Take my kids camping in the lakes and just spend lots of time paddling in lakes and streams.

sarah861421 · 01/04/2019 20:37

just simply being out/ also playing on the beach eating stale sandwiches and warm water. Maybe I dont want to relive that part

pennwood · 01/04/2019 20:57

Long summer days off school spending lots of time in the garden with the paddling pool, sand pit, bikes and peddle car. Parasol shading the table where we all sat and ate our meals, with a dish of ice cream for pudding. My sister and I dressed the long suffering dogs and cats up in doll's clothes then pushed them around the garden in our doll's pram. Lots of laughter and fun as I remember.

Family picnics by the River Churnet, building dams and catching fish.....family picnics in The Roaches, especially at Easter time when the Easter bunny would hide eggs for us, as kids we were totally amazed.
