We all have memories etched on our minds of the happy times we spent as children - before we grew up and had to start adulting. Summer days filled with light, joy and carefree fun. Maybe for you it was long afternoons playing in the back street, and the sound of the ice cream van, or perhaps it was a visit to the seaside where you spent happy hours building a sandcastle or discovering crabs in rock pools. It's these kind of memories that make childhood special, and perhaps now that you're a parent you're planning to re-create them for your own family. If so, Kinder Ice Cream would like you to share your memories and inspire others.

Here’s what Kinder Ice Cream have to say: "KINDER is now entering the world of ice cream, bringing to KINDER fans the care-free, summer feeling that ice cream stirs up, together with three tasty treats, for families to choose from – the delicious KINDER Ice Cream Stick, the convenient KINDER Ice Cream Sandwich and the iconic KINDER Joy Ice Cream."

What are the memories that stick in your mind and have a special meaning? What are the things your parents did that you'd like to do with your children? Maybe you built a kite with your mum and then took it to the park and watched it soar! Perhaps you remember your first trip to the cinema and the smell of popcorn and ice cream? Did you build a fort out of cardboard boxes in the garden with your dad and then take great pleasure in smashing it to bits?

If you have a favourite summer memory you'd like to re-create for your children, share it on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

We used to build dens in the wood behind our house or the field behind our friend's house. We're currently looking at buying a plot of land with a wood on it which I'm dreaming of recreating those den building days with my 2 daughters.

I loved staying at our family caravan in Suffolk every school holidays. We still have one of the oldest static vans on site; my family had been going since the 70s from my great gran through now to myself, husband & daughter.
We want to buy our own one now, I so want her to have the same enjoyment I had there. Bike riding, swimming in the lake & making holiday friends. It's now my safe place Smile

Ah... summer memories. There are so many fond memories for me of summer but it's the smell of it that gets me. The smell of summer in the city or the smell of summer - a mix of suncream, sweat and hot tshirts! It's a bit tough to describe properly, but that summer smell is probably to one that I associate most of my memories with - from childhood and beyond!

i used to take my kids fishing by the canal , we caught many fish and it was nice to spend time with them.

My parents had a touring caravan and i remember the most amazing holidays with my brother when we were children. In particular i remember rock pooling for hours at a time and seeing what amazing creatures we could see. I will take my children rock pooling for sure.

Riding on the snails ride st Great Yarmouth pier with my Mum. Then the joy of finding it still open and riding it again with my own daughter many years later xx

Playing in the garden with my sister, making dens and doing the local library reading challenge. I miss those carefree days

ellie1008 · 26/04/2019 23:48

I remember beach holidays the most. We never used to go abroad- we would make sandcastles, swim in the ocean, eat ice cream and chips in deckchairs. I hope my kids experience that good old-fashioned fun.

Pond dipping!

Emmab19733 · 27/04/2019 10:22

Paddling in the sea with both my children and our dogs dodging the waves

Gatoadigrado · 29/04/2019 22:06

Tying strips of bacon to a long piece of string and going crabbing. And at the end, letting all the crabs out of the bucket to race across the shore back into the sea. Then driving back home, happy and tired, still smelling the seaside and tasting the ice cream

cazziebee · 30/04/2019 07:23

Feeding the ducks in the park with my mom, and getting an ice cream after :-)

Mine would be camping near the Cornish coastline with my Dad. He helped me learn to swim in the sea, we had barbecues on the beach, we played games in the tent when it rained - it was so much fun and definitely something I'd like to recreate!

kelandab · 30/04/2019 20:59

Taking piles of blankets to the back of the garden and making a tent with my friends was always so much fun. Would love to recreate that with my children.

gerispringer · 30/04/2019 21:29

The Yorkshire Dales in summer was a great playground - climbing rocks, paddling in the river, sailing boats, climbing trees, picnics and flying kites - come rain or shine always outdoors.

nbarrett · 01/05/2019 07:13

I'd love to recreate forest adventure walks on hazy summer days followed by a picnic with the family. Of course bringing back our family sports days to top it off.

smoothieooo · 01/05/2019 09:54

Strawberry picking, bike rides to local villages with friends (and ice cream from local shops when we got there), afternoons swimming in the lido (and having to constantly beg my mum for the 20p entrance fee), setting up a 2-man tent in the back garden and sleeping out with my friend next door ... and always waking at 5am feeling chilly but snuggling down and listening to the dawn chorus.

Chocolate50 · 03/05/2019 21:29

We spent a lot of lovely days out at a place called Tarr Steps & i loved fishing with little nets for tadpoles & there was a shop (now tearooms - still have ice cream though!) Where we used to buy lollies & ice cream cones. Happy days!

TellMeItsNotTrue · 05/05/2019 23:16

The simple joy of picnics in the garden after an incident with a dog at the park if the weather is nice and, if the weather is rubbish, pulling wellies on and going out to jump in puddles

Making giant bubbles using homemade mix in a washing up bowl and string, really takes me back to the summer holidays when I was a child

NerrSnerr · 08/05/2019 13:17

Long days in the garden with the paddling pool out and being allowed to play out late in the evening.

Greensmurf1 · 08/05/2019 20:56

Chasing fireflies, looking out for falling stars, listening to the crickets and frogs as we slept under the stars. Cooking dinner over a campfire with s’mores for desert. Singing songs around the fire.

Nameusernameuser · 08/05/2019 21:00

Making dens in the back garden with my siblings. We made bedrooms in the trees and a lounge etc, we even had a hole as a toilet. Wed play for days and days on end in a tiny corner of the garden behind a tree Grin I'd love my son to play outdoors and imagine like that.

aggga8 · 09/05/2019 14:00

Camping in the garden and making ice-cream from fresh cream and strawberries.

magentastardust · 10/05/2019 20:06

My mum always used to make us sandcastle 'cars' when we went to the beach, lovely memories. I can smell the smell of the sun cream she wore now! Also collecting buckets of water with my dad for filling up the moat in our sandcastles.
This is a lovely thread and a nice reminder of the things that we actually do remember..the smiles, the smells , little things and the time spent playing :)

bikerclaire · 11/05/2019 11:50

Hiring a bicyle made for 4 and spending a leisurely day riding around the holiday park and down to the beach!
