Instagram is now a huge part of our culture and is a staple for many teens (and adults alike!) whether they use it to share moments with their friends, run an account for your family pet, or simply to browse memes. We would like to find out how your teens use Instagram and what accounts you’d recommend for teenagers to follow?

Do your teenagers follow foodie, beauty, or music accounts for inspiration? Are they creative and use Instagram to share their own art or photography? Perhaps they are keen activists and use the platform to spread awareness and gain support for good causes?

Instagram have also pulled together this handy guide which explains all about the safety features you and your teens can use to make sure they are getting the best experience on Instagram.

Everyone who posts below will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks

Too many kids using social media inappropriately

MirandaWest · 18/12/2018 12:29

My 13 year old DD doesn’t post much - she likes pictures friends post and follows some famous people. Also uses the direct messaging in group chats.

DS who’s 15 follows famous people/things that interest him and friends. He occasionally posts pictures. Uses Snapchat more

No idea

ThemisA · 18/12/2018 12:58

Mainly food and travel. I have a vegan and she posts loads of images of plant based meals

janeyf1 · 18/12/2018 13:05

She hasn't started using Instagram yet, but once her friends start, it is only a matter of time I fear

sputnicki63 · 18/12/2018 13:12

Mine don't use it at all. Seeing other people's kids use it though, stories seem to be used more.

Liquorice13 · 18/12/2018 13:34

My daughter posts selfies and places she has been

SSCRASE123 · 18/12/2018 13:52

Mine are too young, I have a logon though to work out how it all works in advance !.

mo3733 · 18/12/2018 13:53

my children have never been a fan and are more at home with snapchat

footdust · 18/12/2018 14:18

Just as social media to share and chat with friends

sophiefx · 18/12/2018 14:32

I don't have any teens but I will have no problem letting my little girl use Instagram when she's old enough. As long as I can keep an eye on it!

becky004 · 18/12/2018 15:43

My DS uses it to chat to friends mainly, he only follows his friends and rarely posts and pictures on there. He does however use Snapchat extensively for uploading photo's.

CMOTDibbler · 18/12/2018 16:17

Mine just seems to follow his friends and comment on memes. He's only posted pictures of the dogs

katieskatie82 · 18/12/2018 18:07

my eldest is nearly 13 and i dont let him have an instagram account yet. Maybe i'm just strict with soical media but hes not on any social apps

sueyredcloud · 18/12/2018 18:38

juju3 · 18/12/2018 19:58

Mine uses it very rarely - busy studying hard

DenCop1 · 18/12/2018 20:05

Purely seems to be for selfies and catching up with friends, like a living diary.

beckyinman · 18/12/2018 20:06

Make up tutorials and bigging up each other's selfies

Rachdayan · 18/12/2018 20:28

Mostly for make-up selfies and group poses. Never seen so many pouts in my life!

liz1970 · 18/12/2018 20:29

BlueCheese23 · 18/12/2018 20:31

alsproject · 18/12/2018 20:34

they use it for selfies

Biologifemini · 18/12/2018 20:37

Please don’t support Instagram use mumsnet!
A lot of the content is there to make people make teens miserable and teens are particularly vulnerable to images of perfection.
