Instagram is now a huge part of our culture and is a staple for many teens (and adults alike!) whether they use it to share moments with their friends, run an account for your family pet, or simply to browse memes. We would like to find out how your teens use Instagram and what accounts you’d recommend for teenagers to follow?

Do your teenagers follow foodie, beauty, or music accounts for inspiration? Are they creative and use Instagram to share their own art or photography? Perhaps they are keen activists and use the platform to spread awareness and gain support for good causes?

Instagram have also pulled together this handy guide which explains all about the safety features you and your teens can use to make sure they are getting the best experience on Instagram.

Everyone who posts below will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks

ds only uses insta has his only social media site/ Having looked myself I find it quite disturbing this fantasy life these influence'rs live. Its wrong to portray this to young children and i think you need to do more to combat this.

HoneywithLemon · 18/12/2018 08:09

They post photos occasionally and sometimes DD2 will post videos of herself singing (just audio). They use Snapchat much more tbh.

AR2012 · 18/12/2018 08:13

Luckily my teenage niece and nephews don't. With more studies into Social media and how it affects various groups i'm happy they are limiting what they do on social media.

My daughter's Instagram began as a way to show off her photography. She had an eye for it since she was very young. Now it's all selfies edited with weird filters. I don't like it. Her dad and I police her account. She must have it on private, and only people she knows "IRL" have access to her photos. She follows a lot of young celebs like those from the new Sabrina show or from Stranger Things. My daughter also manages our cat's Insta!

They don't use any form of social media because they feel it puts to much pressure on them to look a certain way so they have decided to not use it at all.

amyhalliday1 · 18/12/2018 08:41

they both have it (17 and 18) and both myself and their dad are "friends" with them on it so can monitor - they just use it mainly to post selfies!!

flozza42 · 18/12/2018 09:06

My daughter who has just turned 18 uses Instagram to post pictures , all her friends do , they use this and snapchat more than Facebook. Unfortunately this is the culture we now live in social media everywhere and your every move can be recorded

Our daughter loves nature and she absolutely loves taking photos, she's thinking of taking photography in College. She uploads everything on instagram, it's also wonderful how you can edit the photos too. I don't see anything wrong with it if you use it for the proper means.

southernsun · 18/12/2018 09:16

My foster sister uses it to follow celebs but does not actively post anything herself

shellywkd · 18/12/2018 09:17

my daughter only has her friends and pages I have approved on her Instagram account

tallandlong · 18/12/2018 09:32

a million selfies

forcompsonly · 18/12/2018 09:37

my daughter (16) uses instagram to post selfies and other pictures and follows her friends,a few singers and bands and some you tubers - her account is private and she only accepts people she knows in real life to be honest she uses snapchat much more than instagram

Ganne1 · 18/12/2018 09:39

I monitor what they are doing. Either way, they prefer other platforms.

luppers · 18/12/2018 09:41

My daughter (14) uses Instagram to run her studygram. She posts study tips, revision notes, caligraphy and photos of stationery. She also microblogs about bullying and positivity on there, and has organised a couple of campaigns about bullying. She runs a book club through it too.
She has over 6000 followers and has never received a negative comment (I monitor it). She regularly (weekly) receives free gifts from major stationery companies which she promotes by incorporating into her posts, and has been paid to promote various companies. I might be biased but I think shes awesome!

I don't have teens, my son is now in his 20s and I don't think he is an instagram user. He is more interested in gaming than social media. I think instagram is a worrying platform and I'm glad I don't have teenage girls!

rupert23 · 18/12/2018 10:00

My son age 16 loves instagram he uses it to watch and share funny memes or videos with friends and to talk to people.

newusernameforxmas · 18/12/2018 10:11

My 12 year old has recently ventured into the world on Instagram.

So far, he's used it to follow his friends and vloggers who post about Fortnite.

His account is private but I have still found dodgy messages in his inbox from strangers. We've spoken about it, and he understands not to reply to these messages.

He hasn't uploaded any pictures of his lovely face, just pictures of scenery, his pets, gaming etc. So far it seems pretty anonymous.

Some of the girls from his class though are posting images I consider to be too mature for their age :(

Serin · 18/12/2018 10:28

DD (21 and recent graduate) uses it to chat to friends and share book reviews, music, etc.

DS1 (18) has no interest whatsoever, he is outdoorsy, sporty, sees the whole social media thing as totally fake and does not use any platforms at all.

DS2 (17) loves it, posts selfies with his mates, talks about gaming and fashion etc (think Joey Essex Hmm)

hiddenmichelle · 18/12/2018 10:58

Two boys - only interested in Discord and use nothing else! But if they did it would be set to private at my insistence!

EllaAutumn · 18/12/2018 11:07

They upload pictures of themselves and their friends and follow others at school.

walk1992 · 18/12/2018 11:28

They post selfies to share with their friends

BL0SS0M · 18/12/2018 11:36

My dd doesn’t post that much but she has fiends who take it v seriously..for example, knowing the best times to post on Instagram Fortunately my dd doesn’t seem too fussed or influenced by it

bubbleybooboo · 18/12/2018 11:58

My daughter uses it to post selfies of her and her friends, she likes to follow celebs (in particular bloggers) and likes following brands for fashion/make up tips.

moneypenny66 · 18/12/2018 12:00

My kids use it to connect with friends and as a way of having contact information for new friends they make. Also, one of them uses it to showcase his photography. And just to share their lives with their friends and family.

iut044 · 18/12/2018 12:14

My son is to young for it .
