Mumsnet users share their tips for easy evenings with Sky Store and The Incredibles

NOW CLOSED

Evenings can sometimes feel like they’re over before they’ve even begun. With this in mind, Sky Store would like to hear your tips for making your evenings easy - so that you still have the time to sit down as a family and enjoy a good movie night in together.

Here’s what Sky Store has to say: “This week we are celebrating the release of the most anticipated animated sequel of all time – Disney/Pixar’s Incredibles 2 in Sky Store, so you can create your perfect movie night in with your family tonight.

With Sky Store evenings are incredibly easy! You can download this family favourite straight to your TV at the touch of a button, so it’s ready to watch as soon as the kids get home.”

What tips do you have for an easy evening? Maybe you meal prep so you spend less time on cooking? Do you have tips for getting your children ready for bed in record time? Have you discovered the secret to making the kids tidy up after themselves? Perhaps you watch new films at home instead of taking a trip to the cinema?

All who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

We plan meals ahead of time and also use a slow cooker which allows us to prep the night before and put the meal to cook in the morning or early afternoon.
I also make sure that our sons pyjamas etc are ready and waiting for after bath time.

A quick and healthy meal then we spend the evening playing games or watching the television together as a family.

RiSo · 11/11/2018 12:36

We do homework as soon as they get in from school before they get out of that mindset. Once that is done they are free to play until tea is ready. After tea we have a bit of family time if they haven't got clubs to go to, and then up to bed. Nothing exciting but it works for us.

Friday night truce - most things can wait so no need for the usual battles.

boobybirdsworth · 11/11/2018 13:46

Friday night was always movie night for us, we'd have a picnic and the kids would bring their duvets down to snuggly up on the floor. They used to love it!

dannydog1 · 11/11/2018 13:50

Slow cooker, a convenience food night once a week, and I mostly try to cook ahead- preparing the next day meal while I’m cooking that night’s meal

A routine is always good months on tbe days I work

seizethecuttlefish · 11/11/2018 14:32

Meal planning and getting things organised in advance. Also, clearing up as you go along. There's a rule in the house. The one touch rule. If you pick it up, you put it where it should go. Don't leave things to do later.

mo3733 · 11/11/2018 16:01

routine and relaxation.

Flapdoodles · 11/11/2018 17:14

Slow cooker meal or something quick and easy and what the kids deem to be a treat such as fajitas. We had fajitas last night then all snuggled on the sofa, kids with a box of maltesers each, and watched a Sky movie.

Rosehips · 11/11/2018 17:35

pop outside, i find the kids go a bit mad couped up all evening so a quick trip to the corner shop, post box etc seems to help

Lheath · 11/11/2018 18:14

I like to try and organise everything throughout the day so there's less to do in the evening

farhanac · 11/11/2018 18:33

One pot dinners are always great for less washing up

towser44 · 11/11/2018 18:40

Batch cooking on a Sunday for evening meals during the week and a set, strict bedtime!

Ikea1234 · 11/11/2018 18:57

Definitely batch cooking and storing in the freezer, or slow cooking, which we have just bought, so still need to do a bit of research into and get some recipes. We all eat dinner together, then it's homework (if not finished before dinner) bath, bed. Routine definitely makes it easier, though not always easy with after school clubs and activities like cubs and scouts. Still, they become part of your routine.

Highfever · 11/11/2018 19:43

Meal plan, online grocery shop, organised mum method and lists. Then I can relax stress free.

Rachdayan · 11/11/2018 20:01

An easy evening, is something quick and popular for dinner that will keep us all quiet, a good film on tv or even better catching up on missed tv programmed on catch up, while the kids are in bed happy and full.

DassDass · 11/11/2018 20:47

sticking to a routine is the only way to get through it!

Marg2k8 · 11/11/2018 20:51

My children are grown up now, so evenings are my time now.

svalentine60 · 11/11/2018 20:57

I've done the same thing most evenings that really help. I live beside Dartmoor National Park and we go for a walk there after dinner with the children and it tires them out and they absolutely love going there no matter the weather. They''re ready to fall into bed when we come home and we then have a relaxed evening with no stress.

helly27 · 11/11/2018 21:11

Just a good old fashioned routine works for us

OhioOhioOhio · 11/11/2018 21:17

Instant pot. Instant pot. Instant pot.

Did i say instant pot?!!

sweir1 · 11/11/2018 22:32

My tip for an easy evening is invest in a slow cooker and cook things the night before.

JoGodfray · 11/11/2018 22:35

I have 5 children aged between 14 & 5 and I have to say evenings are a struggle especially with so many after school activities!! I have to plan meals and I have had to bring dinner time to 4.30pm as the older ones like to go out. Routine has gone out of the window but my 2 younger ones still go to bed early after a bath and a story.

smerlin · 12/11/2018 06:16

Come in have a mad 30 mins while you rush around sorting dinner, laundry etc while still running on adrenaline from work. Once you hit the sofa, you know you're not getting up again until bed!
