For many of us when we see or a hear a reference to a toy from our childhood, we are immediately transported by to a specific time when we were younger playing with that toy...queue all the nostalgic feelings. BRIO would love to know all the toys that give you that nostalgic feeling and what it is about them that makes you feel that way.

Here’s what BRIO have to say: “We just turned 130, yet we feel more vital than ever. And that’s a good thing when working with toys. Because just as play develops children, play has developed us as a company. Smart Tech is the latest integrated technology from BRIO which is adding extra layers of functionality and play value to our timeless toys. The Smart Tech trains can stop, turn around, go slower or go faster using the accessories that are in the range, bringing even more magic to the BRIO World. In a world full of technology and computers, traditional play is at the core of what we do at BRIO. Our Smart Tech range combines clever train technology with traditional play patterns, meaning as parents you don’t need to feel nostalgic for those classic toys as they’re at the heart of everything we do.”

Watch this video on the BRIO Smart tech Engine with Action Tunnel Set:

Is it the Troll Dolls that make you feel nostalgic as you remember spending hours styling their bright pink hair? Perhaps seeing your DC talking to imaginary people on your phone makes you remember you doing the same on your Chatter Telephone? Did you think of yourself as a highly-skilled chef with your Easy-Bake Oven? Would you just spend hours drawing out things on your Etch A Sketch? Or is it good old Play-Doh that always make you feel nostalgic whenever your child plays with it?

Whichever toys make you feel nostalgic, share them on the thread below and everyone who comments will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list) and another four MNers will win a BRIO Smart Tech Engine Set with Action Tunnels, worth £89.95 each.

Thanks and good luck.

There was this fisher price (i think) bath toy that you stuck on the wall of the bath. It had squirters and some sort of sea creature theme. I have lots of early memories of that... and cabbage patch kids which turned into a garbage pail kids obsession!!

Treaclespongeandcustard · 16/10/2018 22:27

Care Bears, the big yellow teapot and my little pony.

gillyweed · 16/10/2018 22:55

Sticklebricks. Sort of spiky duplo shaped but thinner. The spikes lock into each other and you can build shapes. I fondly remember playing with them endlessly in the early years of school.

My middle child has just started nursery and they have a set, I couldn't believe it! They look as old as me!!!

My db and I worked out the Mr frosty conspiracy years ago when we realised we'd both asked every year for him and neither got him although I fully understand why now as I got one for DS and it's useless

Monopoly makes me feel nostalgic - I have many happy memories of playing with grandparents and cousins. So happy to be playing with my daughter now...

MyKingdomForBrie · 16/10/2018 23:38

The huge brio set up in the early learning centre in our local town.. could have stayed there all day playing. We had a little figure of eight set at home that we both played with for hours.

Fisher price garage, Sylvanian Families caravan and a big purple 'my pet monster'! It had hand cuffs that could break apart and everything,

MadisonErin · 16/10/2018 23:39

Bratz dolls, absolutely loved them!

AlliKaneErikson · 17/10/2018 00:26

I still have my Cabbage Patch Kid! ‘Proper’ Sindy dolls make me feel nostalgic. I had the house with the working bathroom/kitchen bits, which was amazing!

fuzzydaisy · 17/10/2018 04:35

At a younger age, my dolls house complete with furniture, a toy clockwork record player that played small red discs children's songs, played at 78 rpm., 3 wheel scooter and bike, "strap over shoes" roller skates, a 2 foot tall doll wearing a bridal gown, a mini grand piano that really worked and lots of other things, too many to list.
At an older age, I loved my Sindy and her younger sister, I think her name was Patch, and Sindy's boyfriend Paul.
Happy days. Smile

Care Bears, Brio (my son now has my old train set - 40 years old!), and when I last visited my parents the Sindy box had been brought down from the attic. I had a lot of fun playing with my daughter. The horses especially took me back and she loved them too!

ohlittlepea · 17/10/2018 06:04

I loved my tiny tears as though she was real. My sister and I used to spend alot of time making our teddy and dolly hospital. We had a yellow wooden cot, and would put other teddies on pillows or in shoe boxes whilst we made them all better. Long and happy afternoons writing in notebooks and listening with stethoscopes dressed up with white aprons on.

We didn't have a brio set, but i have one for my little girl and we love building tracks together.

Villainelle · 17/10/2018 06:22

sylvanian families. Reminds me of happy times

Lorelaiandrory · 17/10/2018 07:01

My favourite was my snoopy sniffer, my dad had to fix the leg as it came off. Then my son and daughter played with it and it is safely in the loft for the next generation.

I also loved my tree house, it was shaped like a tree and top lifted to reveal rooms, there was even a lift, a slide and a garage.

I loved Sasha dolls in the 70s/80s. Made in the UK designed by a German artist. They are now collectors items. Yes I have bought one from eBay.

My big yellow tea pot, have been looking for one for DS to play with in eBay as I had so much fun with mine.

Also barbies aa I had a huge collection including some I still have in packaging from when I was little.

slkk · 17/10/2018 08:13

I used to love cabbage patch kids, my little ponies and Care Bears. We’d also spend hours playing with our Cindy and other dolls. My mum used to sew clothes for lots of our dolls and she also made ours so we often had matchy matchy outfits. I always hankered after one of those aeroplanes that was advertised with a little girl in an air hostess outfit, but I never got one :(

GooodMythicalMorning · 17/10/2018 08:23

Lego, Barbie, k'nex all make me feel nostalgic. Mine aren't into any of these now, but we did have buckets of lego.

hiyahen · 17/10/2018 09:37

Operation! I loved that game. I got really good at it too. Actually convinced myself I'd make a good surgeon because of that! (I'm not a surgeon btw )

BeyondAdultHumanFemale · 17/10/2018 09:58

Tbh it's my brio trainset Grin

It's still at my parents house and now all of their grandkids play with it too.

danigrace · 17/10/2018 11:16

Playmobil dolls house, fashion wheel, and dream phone!

EsmeeMerlin · 17/10/2018 11:35

I spent my time playing with my Barbie dolls, I loved to just look at them because I used to think they were so pretty and loved the different styles. I had ballarina barbie, bride barbie, ice skater barbie etc.

I also loved playing kerplunk and Monopoly with my dad on a Sunday.

ConfusedLlama · 17/10/2018 11:52

Sylvanian Families always make me feel nostalgic. Specifically the windmill set, I used to love winding the little hook up and down and attaching different things to it. My kitten then took to hiding inside it and it would be a surprise when this paw would suddenly appear from out the window.

Purpletoes · 17/10/2018 12:14

Spent hours playing with my Sindy dolls and Barbies 80s child so old school Sindy doll.
Also loved making them houses and areas with my lego.

My Dh loved his brio which our ds and dd now play with and have added to as well.

deptfordgirl · 17/10/2018 12:49

I was born in the 80s. I remember some of my favourite games being Mr Pop, Guess Who and Operation. I also loved Sylvanian Families. It was always a treat to go and choose something from the range from the toyshop. When I was older I loved Trolls.
