How do you deal with parenting conundrums? Take our quiz

NOW CLOSED

Being chief decision-maker comes with the territory when you’re a parent - but sometimes the best way to go is not so clear cut. Take our quiz to find out how your decisions following common parenting conundrums align with those of other users’.

Here’s what O2 have to say: “#IsItAlright to let them use a tablet at breakfast? We hear you. Parenting is full of #IsItAlright questions, challenges and dilemmas. That’s why we’ve launched O2 Family, to bring advice, safety tools and kid-friendly offers to parents across the UK. We don’t pretend to have all the answers. But hopefully we make it a little easier to navigate the everyday messy magic of family life."

Whether you turn to the TV when things get tough, choose to embrace your child’s creativity no matter how questionable it may be or you find bargaining with your children the best way to get things done, take the quiz here and share any results that surprise you (or your own parenting conundrums) below.

All who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I'm a very typical mumsnetter too! I thought I was a super parent with my amazing ideas, turns out I'm just trying my best to be good enough like most others Smile

Tinty · 18/09/2018 14:01

Hmm I was surprised, apparently I'm not a typical MNetter!

I was in the bottom 18% for most things. I would rather cuddle my DC to sleep but I am not hard enough on eating the Veg, but I will make the DC do educational mind expanding things rather than watch TV, but I will negotiate an extra hours screen time to persuade them to dress properly for a family event. And I will grin and bear it sob quietly whilst DC play horrendously until they can hopefully hold a tune. I think I am full of contradictions. Grin

springer5 · 18/09/2018 17:36

Seemed to get the majority answer (bar 1) I thought I was more alternative, but maybe because it's mumsnet!

Glowerglass · 18/09/2018 18:19

Mine go to bed really well so I don't really have that.
Actually nothing works on the vegetables...
On the other hand would never dress up as a pirate, or anything else for that matter.

MrBull · 18/09/2018 18:34

The vegetable one surprised me. We have one who eats them and one who protests. I try not to make a big deal about it. As long as they taste everything on their plate. I wouldn’t make them eat them all in return for pudding though so was surprised that was top answer.

speedysloth · 18/09/2018 19:37

Reassuringly, I agree with most participants Grin

RadagastTheBrown · 18/09/2018 22:20

Nice bit of fun, shame there weren't more options on some of the questions but I got the 1st or 2nd favourite answer on each question so yay me!Wink

Pipsqueak11 · 19/09/2018 00:08

Done- nice to know not alone in my slack parenting

pukekos · 19/09/2018 00:58

I’m more laid back according to the quiz than I feel in real life!

AlliKaneErikson · 19/09/2018 05:48

Am I the only person glad their dd plays he violin?!

witherwings · 19/09/2018 06:54

Some were obvious answers but for other questions I would choose options that weren't available here.
For example, the threat of no reading time or story works for my kids.
And in the holidays, tv is the first port of call so I can get a couple of hours stuff done before we go out.

momoa80 · 19/09/2018 07:09

Done 😊

misskatamari · 19/09/2018 08:28

Pretty average here

Pretty laid back here too.

I really try not to let the small stuff stress me out anymore as I used to get way too stressed about it all.

myphoneisgone · 19/09/2018 11:27

didn't always get an answer option that suited us.

loopylou1984 · 19/09/2018 11:40

Mostly in the majority

Honeywort · 19/09/2018 13:26

Yet ano the average one here! It’s reassuring to know we’re all such a reasonable bunch ( mostly!)

TaurielTest · 19/09/2018 14:48

I felt I wanted a "none of the above" or "it depends which kid we're talking about" option for most of those!

ailsasheldon · 19/09/2018 15:40

Surprised that I’m a stricter parent than I thought. Assumed everyone made kids eat veg and go to bed, or else!

wobblywindows · 19/09/2018 18:32

I'm with the rst of you for all but sleep and veg. I offer to eat them for him, and after a few mouthfuls get distracted, whereupon his part in the game is to eat some before I notice.

queenoftheschoolrun · 19/09/2018 19:28

Surprisingly in agreement with the majority except for believing that boredom should be ignored. How else do they work out what they enjoy doing and how to entertain themselves?

Devilishpyjamas · 19/09/2018 19:40

Nah - not surprised by results. I work with & have lived with extreme challenging behaviour so I know I am more relaxed than most parents. Rarely use ultimatums, don’t really bribe and am trained in ABA so tend to look for natural reinforcement.

Kids seem to be turning out okay.

SillyMoomin · 19/09/2018 21:08

I’m pretty average!, is that good?! Grin

Wobblington · 19/09/2018 21:24

I'm surprised I didn't have more answers in the largest majority answers, I thought I was boringly average!
