This activity is now closed

It’s fair to say that once you become a parent your efficiency skills reach their ultimate potential...gone are the days of spending spare minutes procrastinating about the million-and-one things you need to do. Now, when your DCs are watching a bit of telly you can complete the work that previously would have taken you five days of faffing. In half an hour you've changed the beds for the entire family, responded to your important emails, cooked a meal for four people (with dessert), and painted your toenails an exotic shade of blue. With that in mind, Sky Kids would love to know what you can do in the 30 minutes your children are having some down time.

Here’s what Sky Kids has to say: “The Sky Kids App is the perfect solution to keep your kids occupied during their (and your) well-earned downtime. …..With thousands of shows on demand including Paw Patrol, Ben 10 and Horrid Histories and interactive games for all ages like Art Studio, you can buy yourself some free time (enjoy that home pedicure!) safe in the knowledge that the available shows and games they're watching are age-appropriate and of course, entertaining.”

Do you have a to-do list ready and waiting for when you get a spare 30 mins so you can zap through it all? Perhaps when the children are watching Paw Patrol you manage to call and check in with family members whilst simultaneously preparing for a meeting you have the following day? Or maybe you sneak off to another room, finally able to treat yourself to a relaxing bath or watch your favourite TV show while the children watch theirs?

Whatever you’re able to get done, share it on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

My nails that i've been trying to do for the past week

Beach11 · 04/09/2018 21:04

I can prepare and cook a stir fry. I try to wash up as I go along to save time later

HelenPlant · 04/09/2018 21:08

Strip and re-make three beds.

ConfusedLlama · 05/09/2018 09:49

I had this moment yesterday. Eldest DD was watching the end of a film, Youngest DD having a nap. I managed to Unload/load dishwasher, pack DD1's lunch for first day back at school and make a Macaroni Cheese for dinner. Oh and make a cup of coffee to keep me going.

a lot of procrastinating about how much I have to do and how little time I have!

rocketriffs · 05/09/2018 15:28

Cook breakfast, Have a shower and take the washing in from the garden.

CatherineV · 05/09/2018 18:04

In 30 minutes I have made a list of all the things that need to be done in order of importance with some delegation possibilities!
Saves hours and hours across the years as everyone knows what they need to do (including the kids) Grin

cooljammer37 · 05/09/2018 18:09

in 30 Minutes I can prepare a meal from scratch, wash dry and put away the utensils, pans etc I've used and clean up the kitchen!

IKnowWhenThatHotlineBling · 05/09/2018 20:02

I can get to sit in the garden in the sunshine and utterly devour a full fat ice cream, without interruption. I can also waste time on my phone if i want to!! xxx

sofieellis · 05/09/2018 20:17

I'm amazed at what people can get done in 30 minutes. I can empty the dishwasher and clean the kitchen, or take washing from the machine and hang it out, but not both. It takes me over an hour to clean my bathrooms and probably about an hour each for my bedrooms.

Mariobug25 · 05/09/2018 21:22

I can easily whip around the house and give the place a "on the surface" tidy up! i.e acceptable for visitors, but not the deep clean I would like! that is the joys of living in London in a teeny house :D

suewilly · 05/09/2018 22:00

I don't think mine ever sit still for 30 minutes but if they did I'd be able to get the washing in, iron it and put it away. (and while putting it away I could pick up the new dirty washing all over their bedroom floors and pop that in to wash)

anji2000 · 05/09/2018 23:19

hide in the closet. Eat a bar of chocolate, have a cup of tea and practice some mindfulness

abitoflight · 05/09/2018 23:25

I used to ration tv so I could have a whizz round - dishwasher/washer/fold tumble drying. Get dinner veg prepared and take washing upstairs
Timing crucial

jamielmdjs · 06/09/2018 01:46

the ironing - that hasn't been done in months. ok, i'd get some of it done.

piggypoo · 06/09/2018 07:44

Get a wash on, vacuum the living room carpet, after running about doing that, I would grab a shower, then come out, and put the kettle on for a coffee!

Loftzilla · 06/09/2018 07:46

Whirlwind gardening with my electric hedge trimmer, no shrubbery is safe, I think of it as a lightsaber!

angela121262 · 06/09/2018 11:30

Make a meal for four!

thesockgap · 06/09/2018 11:47

I like to think I'm quite quick and efficient but I do have my limits! I reckon in 30 minutes I could probably manage to hoover all upstairs (3 bedrooms and the landing), and change bedding on 4 beds. In fact I know I could, because I did it the other day and I'm sure I only took half an hour.

wef1984 · 06/09/2018 13:13

Wash up, make the sandwiches, put a load of washing on and if I'm lucky make a cup of tea.

holey · 06/09/2018 13:23

-empty/reload dishwasher
-empty/reload washing machine
-put washing out
wash sink/clean and wipe kitchen surfaces
-sweep and wash floor in kitchen
-clean downstairs loo
-quick wipe round basin and floor in downstairs loo
...and breathe!

emene · 06/09/2018 13:31

Keep on top of my cleaning by hoovering and washing the pots, a bit of dusting if i can fit it in.

Lasplin84 · 06/09/2018 13:32

I can usually whizz around the house with the Hoover and clean the bathrooms in 30 minutes.

bibopalubop · 06/09/2018 14:50

In 30 minutes I can hoover and mop every floor in the house!

svalentine60 · 06/09/2018 17:02

i could easily gain 2 pounds by eating an entire pack of jaffa cakes. With dipping in tea time and savouring the moment i reckon i could get them devoured in 25 :)

I've also managed to hoover the entire house (But that always needs the aforementioned jaffa cakes for the energy)

Once i also sat down and contemplated doing some ironing. The contemplation was definitely just under 30 mins. The answer I gave myself was...........no!
