This activity is now closed

It’s fair to say that once you become a parent your efficiency skills reach their ultimate potential...gone are the days of spending spare minutes procrastinating about the million-and-one things you need to do. Now, when your DCs are watching a bit of telly you can complete the work that previously would have taken you five days of faffing. In half an hour you've changed the beds for the entire family, responded to your important emails, cooked a meal for four people (with dessert), and painted your toenails an exotic shade of blue. With that in mind, Sky Kids would love to know what you can do in the 30 minutes your children are having some down time.

Here’s what Sky Kids has to say: “The Sky Kids App is the perfect solution to keep your kids occupied during their (and your) well-earned downtime. …..With thousands of shows on demand including Paw Patrol, Ben 10 and Horrid Histories and interactive games for all ages like Art Studio, you can buy yourself some free time (enjoy that home pedicure!) safe in the knowledge that the available shows and games they're watching are age-appropriate and of course, entertaining.”

Do you have a to-do list ready and waiting for when you get a spare 30 mins so you can zap through it all? Perhaps when the children are watching Paw Patrol you manage to call and check in with family members whilst simultaneously preparing for a meeting you have the following day? Or maybe you sneak off to another room, finally able to treat yourself to a relaxing bath or watch your favourite TV show while the children watch theirs?

Whatever you’re able to get done, share it on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

In 30 minutes I can tidy the toys away clean the bathroom and kitchen and have a cuppa.

CopperPan · 01/09/2018 20:44

I usually manage to prep dinner, put a wash on and prepare for bathtime in my DD's afternoon nap.

Maiyakat · 01/09/2018 21:44

I'd sort out the pile of stuff on the hall table that gets put there to deal with in a bit...

Tabard40 · 01/09/2018 22:53

In half an hour I can make a cheese sandwich, eat it while I check mumsnet and Facebook and clean the kitchen counters and wash up!

GoodbyeSummer · 02/09/2018 03:24

I ought to say I make dinner, tidy up and sort the laundry out. In reality though when my children watch TV on a morning (usually Scooby Doo or Tom & Jerry but it could be anything on the kids' channels) I just lay on the settee and zone out for a bit.

Dinner put on, lunches for the week made (quiche is a winner), and dishwasher loaded and kitchen cleaned. The 30 mins after DH comes home is my 30 minute blitz before we all sit down for dinner!

frodo1 · 02/09/2018 13:49

So start running hot soapy water in kitchen sink and spray all surfaces. Get out hoover and give living room and kitchen a quick hoover. Then back to kitchen do dishes and wipe down all pre sprayed surfaces. Get any washing that needs to be put away and take it upstairs with hoover. I have a cordless gtech so easy to move. Put washing away and spray bathroom. Hoover bedrooms quickly and landing. Go back to bathroom ad give a quick wipe over. Put bleach down the toilet. Go downstairs light a candle and relax. X the key for me is definitely having a cordless hoover. X

Do the tea for the family and have a cup of tea in the meantime!

NoLogicInThis · 02/09/2018 14:47

In 30 mins I can get the house in an acceptable state if someone calls round unexpectedly.
This usually involves running round the house cramming everything in drawers or in my room to hide out the way!

MrRichTea · 02/09/2018 16:20

A shower, put the washing on, set PVR, make cuppa tea & start a book!

Dee123B · 02/09/2018 16:48

Could cook dinner while getting next day's lunches ready and fold away clothes with a cheeky bite of chocolate!

imustbemadme · 02/09/2018 17:04

30 minutes is enough time to do meal prep for later or I can usually do a HIIT workout in 25 mins plus I am the fastest person ever at showering so I can be done in 30 mins!

sm2012 · 02/09/2018 20:30

Depends on how energetic I'm feeling! You can do a lot in 30 minutes - hoover; tidy up; get dinner ready; do the packed lunches; check Facebook! or you could just sit and reeeeelax!

ellie17 · 02/09/2018 20:55

a nap :D

Quietvoiceplease · 02/09/2018 21:03

Oh those precious 30 minutes of downtime enables me to do untold household chores without interruption: (un)loading dishwasher, (un)loading the washing machine, tidying up, cleaning the kitchen and bathroom and so on.

fazkin · 02/09/2018 21:34

in 30 minutes I can get done a whole load especially if kids are occupied. tidy and hoover the whole house. sort the washing and load dishwasher

xxxxclarexxxx · 03/09/2018 21:27

30 mins is perfect time for a mad dash tidy up! like when someone tells you they are coming over without prior notice - I always seem to get everything done in 30 mins! the perfect tidy up time for me!

cinabar · 03/09/2018 22:11

Flick the washing machine on for a speed wash, and steam mop the floors while I wait for it. That is the productive me, the unproductive me can drink a cup of tea watching a re-run of Big Bang Theory! Brew

katieskatie82 · 04/09/2018 00:30

in 30 mins i can put a load of washing on and make tea!

allibaby · 04/09/2018 10:55

Fold the washing and put it all away.

Dormouse1940 · 04/09/2018 11:15

Not much, get a washing load on and a quick hoovering I guess.
The honest truth is that if I got half an hour to myself I'd sneak off to eat biscuits on my own with a HOT cup of tea. What bliss!

Doodygirl2009 · 04/09/2018 11:23

Just enough time to put a load in the washer, tidy round, vac the floors and make a cuppa

littlemonkeyz · 04/09/2018 13:23

In a spare 30 minutes I can jump in to the local phone box, turn in to Wonderwoman and pretty much clean the entire house; hoover, dust and whizz around the kitchen.

mynellie · 04/09/2018 13:24

wow 30 mins well washing on , then ironing done and also dinner cooked that was prepped earlier
Or have a nice cuppa tea and read a good few chapters of my latest book i'm reading and recharge for the chaos to come

MillyVanilli222 · 04/09/2018 15:15

I'd love to have 30minutes to spend some time on the novel I've been working on for over a year - it's hard to get time to focus now!
