This activity is now closed

With the summer holidays fast approaching, it’s almost time to spend some much needed quality time with the whole family and for some this means jetting off on holiday. However keeping your DC entertained whilst on holiday can be a bit of struggle especially if your DC has an unlimited amount of energy! Neilson would love you to take a look on their website and choose your favourite holiday activity from their collection, as well as sharing your staple holiday activities.

Here’s what Neilson have to say: “Neilson was born from a passion for all things active, our award-winning beachclub holidays in Croatia, Greece, Italy and Sardinia are packed to the rafters with inclusive activities, from windsurfing to wakeboarding, tennis to mountain biking – all with qualified instructors and free tuition thrown in. We have inclusive kids clubs for all ages from two, right up to 17 years old with activities including kayaking, sailing, tennis and stand up paddle boarding! There’s even a crèche for our youngest guests.”

Which activities would your family love to try and why? Have a look on their website here and let us know on the thread below.

We’d also love to know what your go-to family holiday activities are? Perhaps your family love anything water based such as sailing, kayaking or swimming? Maybe you’re more of a biker family and often hire out bikes for the day to explore or maybe you’re more adventurous and go off-road mountain biking? Or does your family enjoy relaxing on the beach, building sandcastles and soaking up the sun on a lounger?

Tell us which Neilson holiday activities you love the look of, as well as what your go-to family holiday activity is and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I'd love to have a go at scuba diving. We love swimming and walking on holiday. Last holiday the kids did sea kayaking which they loved. Anything outside in the fresh air really.

MargoLovebutter · 21/06/2018 13:33

I'd love to give wakeboarding a go - would probably be awful but would love to try it.

Our favourite summer holiday is a beach based watersports holiday, so you have the option to go sailing, waterski-ing, windsurfing, paddleboarding etc or flop by the pool. Gives everyone an option.

Another favourite holiday is a city based holiday at a hotel with a pool, so we can do some sight-seeing and then flop by the pool!

We love walking and eating! We're champion picnickers! We head for wild and rugged areas, especially Cornwall and Wales and the edible contents of our rucksacks are of great importance! We have 2 dogs and grown up DC, who haven't tired of our picnic holidays yet!

smudgedlipstick · 21/06/2018 14:46

Our fave is bike rides! My 4 year old dd has a tagalong attachment from her dads bike to hers so she can come on the long hikes rides independently but without getting tired! She loves it and it is well used even as she gets older. Any family time is precious and we try and make the most of all our moments, even if it's just splashing in the paddling pool in the garden, it's all memories ❤️

del2929 · 21/06/2018 16:19

swimming, boating. anything water related

asuwere · 21/06/2018 16:22

My DC love swimming so would like to try kayaking.

Shockers · 21/06/2018 19:23

I took DS on a Neilson beach holiday (we’ve also skied with them) and it was flippin’ ace!

I loved the kayaking, SUP, borrowing mountain bikes and going for the most picturesque ride together, and the aqua aerobics. DS (who was 12 at the time) tried everything! I have a photograph that the Neilson photographer took of him learning to sail; the joy on that face! There weren’t many kids there as his holidays fell slightly differently that year, so he had tennis lessons with a group of people who were all probably retired- he made so many friends Grin. He ended up in the doubles final and the whole resort brought chairs to the side of the courts to cheer the players on.

He still says it was his best holiday ever Smile.

It was mine too!

DD is pony mad, so we've had some lovely pony trekking holidays that will be remembered forever.

As she's getting to be a stronger swimmer, hopefully this year we can get her snorkelling and eventually scuba diving.

Love a bit of adventure on holiday!

mitalmanda · 21/06/2018 20:12

Loving the idea of scuba diving, windsurfing or paddle boarding....anything I can do with my daughter as it's just a family or me and her...and I'd love the opportunity of doing this abroad with her too...but funds certainly don't allow for this I'm afraid in our current financial situation; but I can dream and it looks lovely too! We do try for a staycation every year and anything free or on the cheap is a winner....shell and fossil hunting, picnic on the beach and this year I'm treating us to a sea fishing trip off the Yorkshire coast when we go in July.

PashleyB · 21/06/2018 20:45

Our oldest is just getting the hang of cycling, so I would love to try that as a family this year

KarenCBC · 21/06/2018 21:22

I’d really love to try stand up paddle boarding and think it would be a great one to get the kids involved in.

I'd love to take the DC on a yacht for a week. Not part of a flotilla. Growing up we had a family boat and sailed across to France and the channel islands for the summer holidays. I loved diving off the side of the boat with a 50ft rope tied around my waist and letting the tide take me off then fighting the tide and swimming back to the boat. I loved the freedom and peace of finding a quiet bay anchoring and it being just ours. I'm sure the DC would love that too - especially if we were in warmer waters and the lack of strong tides would make sailing easier for them as novices.

My eldest is autistic and youngest has social communication difficulties - the clubs and beach activities wouldn't work for them. Middle son is however an adrenalin junky and would try everything offered with a little encouragement. The kite surfing would no doubt be his highlight but I think he'd love stand up paddle boarding too. We were in Venice at Easter and a group of teens were stand up paddle boarding around the canals DS2 was impressed.

Both my boys are now confident swimmers and I've promised them we'll go snorkling soon - I see scuba on the list but not snorkling. I'd always assumed that snorkling is a sort of precursor for scuba. My asthma has been a bit unpredictable lately so i dont think id be allowed to scuba at present. DD is just finding her confidence and may well give it a try.

leccybill · 21/06/2018 21:59

Thought Neilson was a bit middle class for us but might look again as DD would love watersports like kayaking, paddleboarding etc and she loves climbing.
We love a bit of cycling or hiking on holiday usually. And of course lots and lots of swimming.

Caribbeanyesplease · 22/06/2018 06:48

Swimming!
Running for me
Wind surfing for sure

TillyTheTiger · 22/06/2018 07:32

My son loves anything water related so swimming or paddling in the sea. He also enjoys building sandcastles, and visits to farms. I'm looking forward to him being old enough to come to museums without rampaging about

foxessocks · 22/06/2018 07:32

I'd love to try sailing when the dc are older. Cycling and walking at the moment though.

daniel1996 · 22/06/2018 07:40

I love the look of PADI scuba diving, seeing that wonderful underwater world looks so wonderful, and experience which I know my family would never forget.

BaconCrispsGone · 22/06/2018 08:24

I'd pick swimming. We tend to enjoy exploring new places and playing on the beach

YayImALlamaAgain · 22/06/2018 10:33

I’d love to try sailing!

Takethemdown · 22/06/2018 12:25

@youmeandconchitawurst We found it massively differs. When we were there there was a teen boy with special needs in the older group and they were amazing and provided one on one support for as many activities as he could cope with and the group leader was outstanding

On the other hand my high functioning ASD child who was in the younger group (Sharks so under ten) and the leader of their group was completely rubbish and at times we felt excluded them.

CopperPan · 22/06/2018 13:34

We love kayaking and I'd love to do it on holiday. I'd like to try paddleboarding instead.

NambiBambi · 22/06/2018 13:36

We love visiting historical sites and places of interest. We also love playing and reading on the beach and walking along the coastline and watching birds, animals, dolphins and so on.

goose1964 · 22/06/2018 16:02

We're culture vultures so visiting archaeological sites and museums

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 22/06/2018 16:12

We love a sunny day and an interesting beach, with little streams to build dams, a rock pool or two, and some robust buckets and spades for major sand engineering projects.

AalyaSecura · 22/06/2018 16:24

Always swimming, cycling and table tennis, body boarding if we're on the coast; just starting to look at more adventurous options as the youngest is about to turn 8 and now capable of more. Looking forward to it!
