NOW CLOSED

It can be difficult to ensure that clothes always smell good - especially if you have messy toddlers or teenagers that leave P.E kit in bags for weeks. Fairy Non Bio would like you to share your tips for making sure your clothes smell great.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “At Fairy Non Bio, we know that even if you have very sensitive skin, you still want that freshly washed smell on your clothes and fabrics. We have perfected our formula on our detergents and fabric conditioner so that you don’t have to compromise on either. We want to know your tips for great smelling clothes!”

Do you have a way of storing your clothes that means they don’t pick up nasty odours between wash and wear? Maybe your family has a laundry routine that prevents clothes from ever reaching a smelly stage? Perhaps you have a favourite product that’s become your family’s signature clothing scent?

Whatever tips for making sure clothes smell great, share them on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Line dried clothes always smell best, even the kids can smell the difference. Also, as mine are older and no-one has allergies I always use a highly scented fabric softener and the scent lasts well.

badgermum · 30/05/2018 20:04

Cant beat outdoors line drying for scent, If I'm drying items indoors on the airier I put it in a bedroom and shut the door when cooking dinner so the cooking smell doesn't permeate the clothes,
Another tip is to run the hottest wash on your washing machine from time to time to remove smells and sludge from your machine

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 30/05/2018 20:41

I always use laundry pearls.

rhinosuze · 30/05/2018 21:25

Wash them! Honestly though I think line drying though that's impossible where we live now unfortunately. I also use an ironing water which smells lovely

Nicole1709 · 30/05/2018 22:15

I like to use a lovely, lavender scented fabric softener.

juju3 · 30/05/2018 22:36

use softener and dry outside

buchanl79 · 31/05/2018 02:01

I hang my washing to dry outside on the washing line

lovemyflipflops · 31/05/2018 07:08

I line dry when I can, always use a fabric conditioner in the wash , and store my towels sheets and underwear with a bar of soap and a little bag of rice to soak up any moisture.

LittleMe03 · 31/05/2018 07:50

I use loads of conditioner in my wash, almost double of what I need to 😂 I love the smell, freshness and softness

7flipper7 · 31/05/2018 08:28

I use a non bio fabric softener and try to dry out side for that fresh smell.

ladymadonna1 · 31/05/2018 09:04

I always use a fabric conditioner and I never fill the washing machine completely, as clothes need sufficient space to breathe. Where possible, I take them out of the machine as soon as the wash has finished, ensuring they dry quickly, whether on the washing line outdoors or the radiators indoors... otherwise they start to smell funky! It's also important not to go overboard on the detergent.

vickyg88 · 31/05/2018 11:36

Try and clean your washing machine at least once a month, especially underneath the rim!
If you can keep the door and drawer open too as it helps to keep them dry and stop them smelling funny!

kristianjsnooks · 31/05/2018 12:04

Keep the washing machine clean with a regular hot wash and dry clothes outdoors to keep fresh.

queenoftheschoolrun · 31/05/2018 15:07

Regular washes. Tumble drier in bad weather. Put clothes on airer after ironing.

starlingsintheslipstream · 31/05/2018 15:37

Definitely drying outdoors whenever possible.

redheadz · 31/05/2018 15:45

Washing them usually helps!

joggingrunning · 31/05/2018 16:14

I put the clothes in the drawers with some lavender Flowers sachets to make them smell great.

4GreenApples · 31/05/2018 17:10

Washing really dirty clothes as quickly as possible helps.
I started using non-bio washing powders when DC1 was born, and now I can’t stand the overpowering smell of scented washing powders.

Then removing the clothes from the washing machine as soon as the cycle finishes.

I love the smell of line dried clothes.

emmmaaa26 · 31/05/2018 17:59

Tumble dry clothes and washing the dryer out regularly to keep it nice and clean.

kateandme · 31/05/2018 18:00

line drying.
making sure the younglings are taught a good cleaning routine.daily clean knickers and socks etc and early on how to put dirty things in the basket.
"shall we go and put our clothes away" so go and doing it at the same time means they see it less as a "forced" childs chore.we're both doing it at the same time.together sort of thing.keeps laundered clothes packed away smelling fresher longer than if they lingered in piles in the utility!
lenor(the yellow one) is the best.
hang your duvet on the line or oven the banister if you can to freshen and air it.chane your pillow cases more often than the duvet.
dark wash dash.basically we have 2minutes to run to our rooms and grab said washing on that's going on tonight.finish at top of stair and whoever last has to go to the bottom of the stair and have the washing dumped on them from the top haha.allthough the dc seem to rather like losing!

kateandme · 31/05/2018 18:01

oh and quick wash at 30 where have you been all my life!

compstruck · 31/05/2018 18:23

If they are line or tumble dried enough there shouldn't be a problem. If they come out the slightest bit damp there will be a musty smell if stored. I always use a fresh scented TUMBLE DRIER sheet in between newly laundered washing if I fold it up. It comes out smelling lovely and keeps moths away.

angell74 · 31/05/2018 18:29

Another vote for line drying or I have a traditional ceiling mounted pulley maid to dry washing inside in winter without it going musty.

Windmill1828 · 31/05/2018 18:31

My little girl had terrible dry and cracked skin since she was born. The doctors tried everything possible, strong steroid cream, lotions and potions. She would scratch herself in the night and her sheets would always be covered in drops of blood.
She started school and one day some kids in her class pointed out the patch of red, sore skin behind her knees and took the mickey out of her. She was devastated. She sobbed her little heart out and asked me why she had to have this body - it wasn't fair. 💔
A couple of weeks later I was doing the food shopping and saw Fairy non Bio on offer - three big bottles for ten pounds - I always just bought the washing detergent that was on offer.
Within a couple of weeks her skin was beautiful.
No more scratching, no more blood stained bed sheets and more importantly, no more tears from a little girl who didn't like the body she was given. ❤️
Fairy non Bio has made such a massive difference to my little girl, I will never use anything else!!!

Just for reference, when she stayed for a week at her Grandmas, it came back - needless to say Grandma now is a Fairy user too! 😃

cheekychicken24 · 31/05/2018 18:41

Drying outside whenever I can, otherwise use dryer sheets in the tumble drier, & then put used sheets in the drawers with folded clothes & undies to scent them!
