NOW CLOSED

It can be difficult to ensure that clothes always smell good - especially if you have messy toddlers or teenagers that leave P.E kit in bags for weeks. Fairy Non Bio would like you to share your tips for making sure your clothes smell great.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “At Fairy Non Bio, we know that even if you have very sensitive skin, you still want that freshly washed smell on your clothes and fabrics. We have perfected our formula on our detergents and fabric conditioner so that you don’t have to compromise on either. We want to know your tips for great smelling clothes!”

Do you have a way of storing your clothes that means they don’t pick up nasty odours between wash and wear? Maybe your family has a laundry routine that prevents clothes from ever reaching a smelly stage? Perhaps you have a favourite product that’s become your family’s signature clothing scent?

Whatever tips for making sure clothes smell great, share them on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

You just can't beat the smell of clothes dried on the line in fresh air

I add white vinegar in with my conditioner, at the same time reducing the conditioner which I find can make the clothes smell too cloying, and they turn out lightly fragrant and still soft as vinegar softens laundry.

Soak in water and lemon juice first, always smell lovely

In summer nothing beats line drying. I also keep soap in the drawers with clothes, keeps them smelling lovely.

yclark · 09/06/2018 21:11

I put an air freshener in the wardrobes to keep clothes smelling fresh and use travel size bars of soap in my drawers.

I always check the weather forecast and whenever possible I love the scent of washing dried outside. If drying inside I'll use my favourite fabric conditioner. This alongside the drawer liners on the shelves and floor of the wardrobe ensures our clothes smell wonderful all the time. Towards the end of summer or winter I sometimes pop clothes that I haven't worn for a month or two in a rinse wash just to refresh them.

I keep it simple, fairy non bio and line drying.

One of my simple pleasures in life is getting the washing dried outside on a lovely sunny day! Then I can enjoy the lovely fresh smell of the sheets at bedtime. It beats the nightmare of trying to get laundry dry on clothes horses and airers in the dreary wet winter months. My tip; always make sure everything is bone dry before storing!

Use a scented laundry detergent :-)

NELALLAN08100 · 10/06/2018 14:09

Keep your washing machine clean; once a month with a dedicated machine cleaner is great. Also empty the machine as soon as the cycle ends. I don't line dry as my youngest son has severe allergies but I don't find I need to use dryer sheets as a quality liquid detergent always gives a wonderful scent.

Hanging washing on the line: just watch out for neighbours' BBQs...

lorrainej162 · 10/06/2018 20:17

I clean the washing machine every month and dry washing on the line whenever possible.

ellie17 · 10/06/2018 20:48

i use good fabric conditioner and always dry on the line

Kangakate · 10/06/2018 21:00

Scented softener and out on the line to dry

blue25 · 10/06/2018 21:53

I do two small washes every day, so nothing sits around dirty for long. I also dry outside whenever possible which definitely helps.

ChippyChips · 10/06/2018 22:04

line drying is the way to go. I also make sure I clean the washing machine regularly and put the occasional boil wash on too. That always helps clothes to come out really clean and smelling great!

chrissie4 · 10/06/2018 22:16

I like to dry on line if I can I use sensitive washing powder and lavender in my wardrobe and airing cupboard. I also wash the washing machine out about once a week

baconbap · 10/06/2018 22:23

Ecover detergent, line drying and not using fabric conditioner.

Jocelynne123 · 10/06/2018 22:23

Always use fabric softener and dry on the line. Xx

CristalTipps · 10/06/2018 22:44

I time washing our clothes so that I can take them out as soon as the cycle is finished, and line dry them if it's not raining. Damp is the worst thing for making clothes smell bad.

Once a month I run a washing cycle using white vinegar to make sure my washing machine stays clean inside. Also, every spring I replace my lavender scented drawer liners.

FrenchieMum2Be · 10/06/2018 23:11

No particular routine but you can't beat drying clothes outside in the sun.

Dessallara · 10/06/2018 23:25

Drying my washing outside :)

jamielmdjs · 10/06/2018 23:54

Don't let them stew in the washing machine - get them out and hung to dry quickly. Tumble dry is good, with dryer sheets. Cupboard and drawer scent bags help (dryer sheets also work for this if you don't have scent bags)

Harper39 · 11/06/2018 00:16

I always use a good quality fabric softener and make sure clothes go straight on the washing line so they are not sitting around damp.
