NOW CLOSED

It can be difficult to ensure that clothes always smell good - especially if you have messy toddlers or teenagers that leave P.E kit in bags for weeks. Fairy Non Bio would like you to share your tips for making sure your clothes smell great.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “At Fairy Non Bio, we know that even if you have very sensitive skin, you still want that freshly washed smell on your clothes and fabrics. We have perfected our formula on our detergents and fabric conditioner so that you don’t have to compromise on either. We want to know your tips for great smelling clothes!”

Do you have a way of storing your clothes that means they don’t pick up nasty odours between wash and wear? Maybe your family has a laundry routine that prevents clothes from ever reaching a smelly stage? Perhaps you have a favourite product that’s become your family’s signature clothing scent?

Whatever tips for making sure clothes smell great, share them on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Add 1 drop of lavender oil or another fresh fragrance (lemon, orange,) to washing powder in drawer, rinses sufficently to not cause any irritation and leaves a wonderful smell.

BraayTigger · 05/06/2018 07:40

I use very fragrant fabric conditioner and try and line dry outside whenever can, especially for larger items of clothing and bedding/towels.
It probably is a really good idea to clean washing machine regularly so thanks to all who gave this tip as have been a bit slack to date..!

Don't cram them into drawers and cupboards, fold neatly, and hang with plenty of space around them. They stay fresher, though you need masses of wardrobe space!

Proclib · 05/06/2018 08:37

Hang them on the line.

NauticalDisaster · 05/06/2018 08:43

My ex used to heavily scented fabric softener to mask smells and it was vile. I still retch when I catch a whiff of heavy laundry scents.

The best thing to do is to keep a clean machine with regular vinegar and hot temperature washed to ensure the water used to wash your clothes is smelly to begin with.

Next, don’t let clothes sit in the basket collecting odors, especially sports or workout wear. I cringe when workout wear is left in a sports bag overnight.

Finally, dry right away, don’t let laundry sit in the washing machine, and dry it outside when possible.

as soon as the washing machine has finished hang them out to dry on the line in the garden, especially on a sunny breezy day, they smell lovely and fresh

colleenw · 05/06/2018 14:39

keep your washing machine clean - and dry clothes outside!

sofieellis · 05/06/2018 15:31

I try to line dry mine as much as possible. In the winter I use fragrant sheets in the tumble dryer.

MillyVanilli222 · 05/06/2018 16:14

I use a great smelling Fairy fabric pod so the scent gets straight to my clothes. I try not to overfill the washing machine, clean it regularly and try to dry clothes outside whenever possible!

OfficeDictionary · 05/06/2018 23:05

Can't beat the dried outside smell, unless neighbours have a bbq Confused

cherylann2461 · 06/06/2018 00:38

Dry washing outside and i use lavender bags in my wardrobe and chest of drawers.

angiehoggett · 06/06/2018 10:49

Scented drawer liners help and replacing them quite often

MrRichTea · 06/06/2018 15:53

Use amazing smelling fabic con.& always dry them in the sunshine

kaycm25 · 06/06/2018 19:33

I love a fabric softener and also line drying helps.

Minnibix · 06/06/2018 21:39

You cannot beat line drying clothes for that out door fresh smell

imustbemadme · 07/06/2018 17:11

I came here to find out what people do. I was in Tesco today and all I could smell was this wonderful scent of someones washing powder (I assume, it could have been their perfume) I prefer to dry my clothes outside but the kids hate that outdoor smell on their clothes, better than the smell of the days cooking I tell them. We also try and keep the clean washing in the cupboard so it's not sitting around in the kitchen, as the DH and I both have jobs where we have hands on with clients then we don't want to be turning up stinking of bacon!

HelenSw4les · 07/06/2018 19:54

I don't like to add fabric conditioner when I was my laundry as it makes items have a chemical smell; it also reduces the absorbency of towels. Nothing beats the scent of line dried laundry and I never sleep better than the night when I get into clean line dried bedding, bliss!

sbruin1122 · 07/06/2018 22:11

dry them quick

rejcomp · 08/06/2018 07:26

Washing them seems to work.. :)

whitbyranger · 08/06/2018 08:07

Definitely dry your washing on the line in the garden, if possible. I haven't even replaced my tumble drier, and have no intention of doing so.

rocketriffs · 08/06/2018 08:11

Hanging the washing up to dry in the garden is the best. Cant beat it for the natural scents from garden plants and flowers.

Caelaj07 · 08/06/2018 14:05

Spray clothes with fabreeze fabric spray befor ironing

thisone2 · 09/06/2018 03:09

Don't use fabric softener, it makes the washing machine go mouldy.

oliveoyl72 · 09/06/2018 07:32

Line drying is the best one to combat bad odours - I'm sure the sun is a deodoriser! To make my clothes smell nice, I use a nice fabric conditioner, and put dryer sheets in my drawers and wardrobe.

yorkie18 · 09/06/2018 08:38

Definitely hang the washing out on the line for a lasting fresh smell!
