With laundry stacked high and always increasing, it can be tempting to break even the most basic of laundry rules in order to keep on top of the task. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about the rules you implement (or ignore!) when you’re doing the laundry.

Here’s what Fairy has to say: “We want to know what’s important to you. Have you found a way to save time? A way to get the best stain removal? A way to keep clothes huggably soft? Or even just a way to not lose matching socks! We would love to hear your tricks of the trade.”

What’s your perspective on laundry rules? Either way, Fairy Non Bio wants to know. Do you obey temperature regulations or simply stick everything in at 40? Perhaps you’re the kind of person who avoids overfilling and never fails to air-dry fine fabrics. Or, maybe you fill the machine to the brim and adopt a one size fits all approach to drying that would make manufacturers weep. Whatever they may be, divulge your laundry indiscretions.

Share the rules that you follow and those you ignore on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

When is this thread going to end?

It was started on 3rd April.

Is there something in the t&cs that tells us when it closes?

arat · 16/04/2018 20:27

"hand wash only" - no such thing!

alsproject · 16/04/2018 20:33

I wash similar colours together

himalayansalt · 16/04/2018 20:36

Towels, bedding, tea towels, flannels, dishcloths - on the 2 hour cottons wash at 60 degrees. I usually use Persil bio powder on special offer, or Sainsbury's own brand, in the big box. Sorted into colours or whites.

Clothes - on the cottons wash at 40 degrees, sorted in to whites, pastels, brights, darks, denims & trousers. Big box bio powder on whites, big box colour powder for the colours and darks.

Woollens and silks on their special programmes with the special liquid stuff.

Every load is a full load here, dried outdoors whenever possible, on a clothes horse in the study in the winter, emergency pants and socks dried on the radiators when necessary.

Dormouse1940 · 16/04/2018 20:39

Pretty much everything goes on at 40, I generally only sort colours into a 'whites' and 'other' pile :D

twinklenic · 16/04/2018 20:43

i do whites, coloureds and darks. I dont really have any other rules only DO NOT TUMBLE DRY MY HUBBYS CASHMERE JUMPER lol after i ruined his first one

towser44 · 16/04/2018 20:46

I ignore them all! Stick anything and everything in the machine and always at 40 degrees!

LeeR1985 · 16/04/2018 20:54

I ignore everything, I'm terrible. Everything goes in on 40 and I don't seperate colours Grin I do with my daughters clothes but I'm not fussed, I don't wear fancy clothes so they all go in on the same settings

Lisapaige24 · 16/04/2018 20:58

Always follow the light load dark load ,colours and delicate load

spottypjs · 16/04/2018 21:08

I mix colours all the time and just stick in a colour catcher! I also wash most stuff on a normal 40 degree wash.

jandoc · 16/04/2018 21:48

just to try and keep on top of it is a struggle sometimes

hmariez · 16/04/2018 21:50

I don’t always separate whites 🙈

Chrisboswell9281 · 16/04/2018 21:56

Everything goes on a 30 on the quickest wash possible. I wouldn't even know what some of the other settings can do.
If I get a stain, I tend to be lazy and wash it, wash it again and if it still there, in the bin/charity bag (if its not too bad) it goes.

lhlee62 · 16/04/2018 21:59

We don't separate white and colours, we do light colours and darks and so far no issues

moneypenny66 · 16/04/2018 22:01

I just wash everything on 40 except bedding which I wash at 60 to kill all the dustmites.

buckley1983 · 16/04/2018 22:03

I keep whites separate, dark denims separate & then coloured garments all go in together. Each load had a colour catcher sheet in a net bag 'just in case!' - it's amazing to see how much dye/dirt they catch when the wash has finished!
I wash each load at 40 unless the label says 30.

AveEldon · 16/04/2018 22:07

whites are whites only - all whites, no beiges, no whites with prints etc
my mother despite having lectured me in the past about how my whites would go beige now mixes them up
my 7 year old put her straight

pfcpompeysarah · 16/04/2018 22:18

I ignore pretty much every rule, I put anything in together and so far, fingers crossed, I've always been lucky.

Minimonkeysmum · 16/04/2018 22:23

I use a scoop of eco mineral bleach in every wash (except wool & silk!) along with my normal fairy powder - sorts most stains out without any effort and keeps whites white and colours bright!

vickyors · 16/04/2018 22:23

I follow no rules. I throw everything in together and hope for the best. Unless it's new, I chuck it in.

pkelly2018 · 16/04/2018 22:37

I, too, just do a lights and darks wash on the general setting. Everything comes out fine and clean. Due to my sons' skin, I can only use Fairy.

juju3 · 16/04/2018 22:41

Try to follow them all - but its confusing

davidjswift · 16/04/2018 22:46

wash most things on 30 always ok for me

melmoo · 16/04/2018 23:28

Dry Clean Only - Follow
Do Not Tumble Dry - Follow
Hand Wash Only - Ignore
Temprature Restrictions - Ignore (It all goes in at 40 anyway)
Seperate Whites and Colours - Ignore

Everthing seems clean and fine (One of DHs white cycling tops is currently slightly pink though)

patchysmum · 17/04/2018 01:33

I do not separate lights and darks ,usually wash at 30 degrees except towels and bedding.Anything expensive and delicate I wash by hand.
