HomeAway have got in touch as they are eager to know what Mumsnetters think makes the dream holiday property. Perhaps it’s all about the city centre location, or a close proximity to a beach. Maybe a big kitchen is important for you to have some relaxed holiday meals or is a barbeque something you look for? Is suitable décor important? Is a private pool or hot tub a must for you and your family? Maybe you travel with pets and find that rental properties are the only way in which you and your companions are able to soak in the sun.

Here’s what HomeAway have to say: ‘HomeAway has over 2 million properties around the world, including villas, cottages, beach houses, tree houses, mountain cabins and even castles! We specialise in offering the whole house and in providing properties suitable for families. In many cases, you can save a lot of money by booking a private home and you get more space and flexibility than hotels or resorts. We have millions of happy guests who return each year to book their holiday property and we’d love to help Mumsnetters find their own perfect match’

Whether your preference is for somewhere rural and isolated or central and bustling, HomeAway wants to know exactly what makes you tick.

Take a look at their website and post a link to your preferred property on the thread below - and don’t forget to tell us why it caught your eye!

Everyone who leaves a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I know that there are some beautiful foreign-destination properties on HomeAway, however, I love the Scottish Highlands.

The Scottish Highlands have an incredibly romantic and wild landscape, and I think this (link above) amazing chapel reflects its location. It retains the richness of Scottish history by having the period features, and yet its modern cosy decor looks incredibly romantic.

Staying here would be an adventure in itself, never mind all the mountaineering possibilities on its doorstep...

... I'd love to book it for next summer, for an adventurous, and romantic, get-away with my hubby!

We love to stay in Dartmouth. It’s such a beautiful place and holds special memories for me personally. This would be the perfect place for our next holiday there.

Really for me it can be anywhere as long as, the beds are comfy there is some outdoor space with stunning views , the views are stunning from every window, the weather is glorious the local food outlets are amazing and it take less than 2 hours to get to. ... Oh dear But if I have to compromise would be the weather so maybe a little place in the peak district would be fine with a hot tub and a log fire to ofset the mixed weather .

Sun, a deck with enough room for lots of friends. Looks amazing.

This one for those views and quiet setting, but having a small village with restaurants in walking distance.

Lots of gorgeous places to choose from, but my favourite would be one in Cala Galdana, Menorca, because it is one of our favourite places to visit. A pool and near the beach, enough space for us all, just ticks every box.

As an aside, I almost booked a break with Homeaway but read some bad reviews about, in essence, accommodation not being as described, last minute cancellations (or even available at all in some cases on arrival) and there being no recourse. This really put me off. Is there some way of reassuring bookers that this is not the case? I notice the latest reviews for the villa I liked is a quite old, which also seems unusual in this age of feedback.

A quiet property in one of my favourite ever places - Cornwall. Close to Padstow (I love it there out of season!) and other places of interest. A perfect getaway in my humble opinion.

This is big enough to sleep 10, so it would be great for a bigger family getaway. Close to the beach, and it has its own pool. It's absolutely ideal for us!
